Mammoth Musings
OK, seriously, it's just getting old now.
Tue, July 1, 2008 - 5:05 PMYeah right! I'm so hooked! I'm like a shivering junkie in the corner . . . "must . . . . . . have . . . . . . . . . .functional . . . . . . . tribe."

the half functionality just, as they say in my country, sucks ass.
Tribe, please burn to the ground or get a pro server wrench (who can function without the hourly doob to "maintain, bro") to straighten this shit out. 'Nuf of this straddling 'turd' and 'sammich'...... ....one or the other please. It's a cruel mistake to keep chomping on a big turd sanguich. |

now all i can hear is the morning announcement coming over the school p.a. system:
"...glee club tryouts will be held in the band room at 11:30... and lunch today will be turd and sammich with choice of fruit cup or pudding...all those planning on attending this years class trip have until the 17th to turn in their signed permission slips in to Mrs. Beehive...." |

I've dug a little through the complaint threads at bugs.tribe.net , but couldn't find any useful information besides the fact that we're not alone in our frustration with tribe's recent instability.
I think the main thing tribe management needs to do is to set some realistic -- even pessimistic -- expectations about how reliable the site will be over the next few months, and then during that time do whatever it can to fix its stability problems, whether it's recruiting technical support from within the community, holding bake sales, or whatever. I don't think appealing to tribe's founder (as I've seen some people propose) would be of much help, since he seems to have moved on to new things, most notably his gaming-related social-networking site, zynga.com. If anything, the recent instability of tribe is proving the utility of having backup online communities -- like arize's ning group, or facebook, or even myspace -- isn't it? So those places are useful, but replicating friend-networks at each one of them has been a real pain in the ass in my experience: conversations get put on hold, social momentum dies out for a time, and so forth. But still, the hiccups of migration can be better than choking from time to time, as we've been doing here. |

mmmm... turd sammich for lunch agaaaaaaain?
oh cruel world... (i am fairly certain i had one of those -- w/ warm mayonaise as its sole condiment -- at a convenience store en route to bonnaroo in '04. i was on crutches at a rest area puking into the bushes scaring tourists... not a pretty sight.) oh joy! your erstwhile roadrunning pope is somewhere in indiana en route to michigan... oh fun! |

yeah.
tribe has been delivering a steady supply of turd sammiches for a while now. I think sometime, about 4 score and 20 turd sammiches ago, I lost my appetite. I have so little to say to tribe now. cold shoulder, if you will. we have intercourse every now and then, but that spark is gone.. gone daddy gone, the love is gone awaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay. sad, but true. |

oh, god! i have NOT gone to facebook yet at all.
don't pay tribe, but don't just leave either. relegate it, as chandra is implying, to booty call status for whatever its worth! there are still good connections, just have a plan b. :) |

oh, i'm not leaving altogether. i'm jes trying to have you all backed up in one place.
facebook isn't so bad. you can just join and forget it if you want . . . and go back whenever you feel like it. i am SO not emotionally invested in facebook like i am with tribe. |

they're working on it, apparently...
people.tribe.net/bobzilla/blogThere, an employee is quoted as saying that tribe.net's technical underpinnings are being rewritten and should be more stable soon. "The new timeline goes a little like this: Proof of concept (July 9th) Beta test roll out (August 1st) Tribe.net 3.0 rollout (September 1st)" |
