I saw it last weekend. I liked it a lot, but the kid (14 yrs) that I went with said the book version took place in China. So it made me wonder why Hollywood sees it necessary to exploit and stereotype Muslims as terrorists (well it's obvious that it is to make more money, but...). I guess it goes back (at least in my memory) to the westerns and army flicks where it was always some brown skinned people who were the enemies. I don't know, maybe I'm reading more into it.
But the whole concept of accountability was awesome and yes, I think he should get an Oscar for that role. |

My understanding is that the comic was written when the US military was engaged in Vietnam, so the "bad" guys were Vietnamese. They wanted to modernize it, so they made the "bad" guys Middle Eastern. . .
