stuff to read
that dark time of the brand new
Sun, January 6, 2008 - 2:02 PMNo one tagged me, but after months of barely even logging on (8600 BM posts??!), I want a new start. And it's never good form to say just right out loud but I'm depressed as hell today. Collecting all my fours may help.
Four jobs I have had in my life:
1. Warehouse manager for Capezio
2. massage therapist
3. personal assistant and driver for a big-ass celebrity
4. Production Assistant (film)
Movies I've watched more than once:
1. Matrix
2. Shrek
3. The Scarlet Pimpernel
4. Repo Man
Four places I have lived:
1. Quebec City, Quebec
2. Kaaava, Oahu
3. Fairfax, CA
4. Cambridge, MA
Four T.V. Shows that I watched:
1. Batman
2. Ramblin' Rod
3. The Six Million Dollar Man
4. Get Smart
Four Places I have been:
1. Nairobi, Kenya
2. Lerwick, Shetland
3. The Louvre
4. the Multnomah County Library
Four people who e-mail me:
1. * B r o o k e *
2. unfortunate, sole surviving family members of rich, murdered Nigerian officials
3. Todji
4. two or three people from Obama's campaign
Four people I wish would email me:
1. my daughter
2. Elaine
3. Drusilla
4. Madden
Four of my favorite foods:
1. baked salmon and brown rice with broccoli
2. miso soup with those expensive rice crackers
3. letter drugs
4. physical touch with intimacy
Four places I would rather be right now:
1. I ... don't really want to be anywhere else
2. than I am right now
3. the universe
4. is seeded here
Four things I am looking forward to in the next year:
1. my chance to shine
2. opportunities to love
3. transparent coherence in my public and private lives
4. the kiss of my muse and my animus
Four people who I think should take this survey:
1. Miss Kristie
2. the cop who's always at the Starbucks on Holgate
3. Happy Mel
4. whoever's read this far
ah, well. I'm a sucker for lists.

Hendrix didn't cry when he was born a few months ago. I don't think he got the butt slap, though.

I'm a sucker for lists, too (I think it's an Aries thing)
I'm sorry to hear that you're depressed. This rainy, dark weather seems to amplify that feeling. Is Get Smart out on DVD? Not that this solves anything, but an afternoon of cheesy humor is never wasted time. Jiffy Pop optional, but highly recommended.

The LeBoyer Method
So sorry you are feeling down. With those new beginnings, recognize an amazing technique that LeBoyer created, called "Birth Without Violence." Babies do not cry because the transition is less shocking. Easing into change, in a warm, welcoming environment makes all the difference. May you find a similar safe space to reemerge.
I'll do the job list but will save the space on the others: 1. Physical therapy aid 2. Temped as a receptionist at a financial firm 3. Waitress 4. And the long pretty straight road through academia- graduate assistant, etc to sociology professor |

salmon
your salmon dinner needs a glaze, perhaps a tomato confit, balsamic, or champagne citrus. Yum I love salmon. can't get good salmon in the desert.

Happy birthday - is it your fourth, perchance? :-)
Really, the depressive part of the year is over... it's all very seasonally interesting and ridiculously obviously on its way to spring from here.... I'll do the Dance of Fours. Workin' on the email. |

On All 4's
Every time I encounter you I learn something fascinating about you. And myself, really. My heart goes out to you in this transitional time in your life. I'm sorry I can't give you more than comforting words. I am really showing myself the areas of my life where I "should" be but since I haven't done the work, I am not. I have no choice but to stop the folly and bunker down.
In my Yoga session last night, the instructor reminded us of how flexibility is really in the mind. We learn to trust and just give in and breathe and our body reflects that. Slow steps every day lead us into our Castle. I would be ecstatic if you would divulge more of your path with the world, for yourself. And realize that you have an entire community that receives you.
