net squared: remixing the web for social change!

i went to the coolest con in the silicon valley today and yesterday!!!

netsquared is a project of techsoup which is a really cool nonprofit that gets donated software out to the nonprofits who need it but can't afford it.

www.netsquared.org/conference/news
www.techsoup.org/index.cfm

i met the award winning creator of ushahidi.com a program for crowdsourcing crisis information, which was used in the recent outbreak of violence in kenya.

www.netsquared.org/2008/con.../ushahidi

the inventor: david kobia, is a delightful african man who ended up going to school in alabama simply by starting at the top of the alphabet while picking american schools.

he's really fascinating!

www.ethanzuckerman.com/blog/2...-kenya/

i learned about soooooooo many cool projects!

yay for creativity and for people who care about social justice and peace!

my dad and mom volunteered for years in kenya and created a lodge for people who couldn't afford to go on vacation near nairobi. dad passed 2 years ago but mom was so upset over the killings happening there, since kenya had been a stable country.

kobia also created the website: www.mashida.com, an online african community with forums and chat.

Community Collaboration and Play

Two Communities -- One Morning of InterPlay

Diane Ault (Nashville) & Masankho Banda (Oakland)

April 17, 9:00 to 11:30am, InterPlayce, Oakland

Love Offering

Come and play with InterPlay leaders Diane and Masankho! They have been collaborating and developing community at home in Nashville and Oakland and lots of other places for the past five years and they bring the wisdom and joy of their collaboration to this morning of play. One of their specialties is intuitive, "in the moment" facilitation. Come and experience this kind of leadership and some of their secrets for maintaining great group "flow"...

Connect with the ancestors, and your waking dreams for the future-- all in the power and possibility of NOW! Bring your story of collaboration and share your journey. The fun of Walking, stopping, running, the power of side by side stories, the intrigue of DT'3's, the mysteries of leading & following and so much more. After playing join us for lunch at 12pm so that we can continue to share our stories.

(Diane is in town from Sun. to Thurs. and would welcome opportunities to connect with other InterPlayers. Call 615-594-4410, email diane@interplaytn.org)

Diane Saliba Ault is a longtime community organizer, activist and artist who wears lots of hats! Her roles are many but her vision is one: wholeness for all. She has served on the boards & staff of many church and community non-profit organizations, locally, regionally and nationally and has a passion for community-building across lines of race, class and culture. She loves the simplicity and elegance of the InterPlay forms and shares them with other adventurous souls in Nashville and other parts of TN! She is a regional leader in InterPlay, hosted the First International InterPlay conference, participated in the Malawi trip with a delegation from Nashville, and is co-leading a trip to the World Sacred Music Festival in Fes with Masankho and her daughter Sara, and son-in-law Zouhair. See www.interplaytn.org, and www.interplaymorocco.blogspot.com

Masankho K Banda is a multi-disciplinary Performing Artist/InterPlay Leader, Educator, Spiritual Healer and PeaceBuilder. He brings many unique perspectives to his work around the world. He learned the fine arts of storytelling and dance from his Wisdom Elders in Malawi. Using performing arts & InterPlay Masankho motivates and inspires people of all ages to work together to bring about peace, social justice and cultural understanding. In 1997, he started UCandanc' African Healing Arts to bring his passion for dance and storytelling to communities around the world. Masankho is certified as an International InterPlay Leader. In 2001, Masankho was awarded the Unsung Hero of Compassion by His Holiness the Dalai Lama.
