Venus

The Roman goddess born of heaven and sea, revered for her gifts of fertility, sensuality and above all, love.

MANTRA
* Self love

GEMSTONES
* Rose quartz, pink tourmaline, emerald (pink or green stones)

AFFIRMATIONS
* I am valuable
* I walk in beauty
* I release my habit of self-criticism
* Self acceptance brings me joy
* I release myself from harmful judgments
* I'm the best thing that's ever happened to me
* I am free to be myself, I accept myself as I am
* My insecurity is replaced with shining confidence

Her Story

This Roman goddess born of heaven and sea, was revered for her gifts of fertility and sensuality. She is the embodiment of the feminine divine, and as such is the goddess of beauty, sass, sunshine and love.

Her Modern Energy

Venus' erotic beauty emerged as a popular subject of Renaissance painting and sculpture. Her voluptuous, flowing curves portrayed the natural beauty inherent in the female form.

Perhaps the most famous and honoured goddess of the heart, Venus rules over a woman's sense of style and her appreciation for acts of love, pleasure and romance.

When a woman embraces Venus' energy, it is difficult not to walk with a sassy step, rolling the hips and allowing love to pour forth from her eyes. (no reason men can't do this, too ~ mem)

Reconnect With Your Inner Venus

Think about how you are sitting right now as you read this. Are you hunched? Are you frowning? Are you distracted? Is this the body language you want others to be exposed to? Is this the energy you want to exude?

If not, allow yourself to embody Venus' vibration, be conscious of your desire to radiate magnetism, and ooze warm and feminine divinity.

Honour the gifts of the senses -

* play a song that makes you go weak at the knees
* put a loved one's clothing to your nose and inhale their scent
* flick through a photo album that brings tears of joy to your eyes
* place a chocolate in your mouth and let it melt melt melt all over your tongue
* dress up at least once a week in your "Sunday best"
* massage some peppermint oil into your feet and pamper yourself with a foot (and hand) massage

This may be all the love spell you need... embody love, become love, attract love.

What Would Venus Do?

... If she were in your situation, she would draw on her innate sense of style and first-class appreciation for acts of love, pleasure and romance. She would do what makes her feel womanly. And, she would radiate a warm, magnetic aura.

Artemis

Artemis brings the gift of strength to say no to forces that inhibit or bind you. With the stunning power Artemis gives you, you are a powerful being able to bring an end to destructive forces in order to start afresh.

MANTRA
* Resilience

GEMSTONES
* Garnet, bloodstone, tourmaline, smoky quartz (red stones)

AFFIRMATIONS
* It is easy to say "no"
* I trust the Universe to provide
* It's OK to release my anger
* I say goodbye to destructive influences
* There are rainbows in every rainfall
* I am awake to my life's true calling

Her Story

Greek goddess Artemis was so adamant that she could never be seen by a man that when the hunter Actaeon encountered her bathing naked in a stream, she punished him by turning him into a stag and watching as her hounds tore him to pieces.

She was a champion of chastity and virginity (even amongst her followers), and quick to dispense her justice to wanton men as well as women. Anyone who compromised chastity was punished - for example, they might be turned into a beast to be hunted... hence, Artemis' image in ancient Greece was long associated with human violence and bloodshed, even human sacrifice.

So why look to such a seemingly heartless goddess as a role model?

As with most goddesses, Artemis has two faces. She was as passionate about protecting the forest animals as she was about protecting her (and her followers') chastity. She was the protector of life, ending life in order to bring about rebirth of "good". Life is cycle of birth, death, and rebirth.

In accepting this as a state of being, modern women can fight for what they believe in, knowing that although their actions may seem heartless at times, they are for the greater good.

Her Modern Energy

If you are feeling threatened by a project or circumstance that seems to be leading nowhere, don't be afraid to nip it in the bud - Artemis offers you the strength to rid your life of excess baggage, to confront the forces that threaten you, to destroy the elements of destruction in your life. Once this is done, you can redirect your energy and celebrate new life.

Reconnect With Your Inner Artemis

Refocus your energy by setting up three lit candles in front of you - a red one to re-establish your connection to the earth, an orange one to fire the creative energy of your sacral chakra, and a purple one to stimulate the intuitive vision of your third eye.

With your legs apart at shoulder width and your knees relaxed, root your feet to the ground, anchor your toes to the earth, and relax into "warrior stance". Close your eyes, and feel the strength of the earth energise you from your feet up, through your spine, your belly, your heart and your body. Feel it spark your third eye so you can visualise the direction you need to take. Notice the detail of your visualisation as it provides you with the answers you need.

What Would Artemis Do?

... If she were in your situation, she would get rid of negative elements in her life. She would lose the excess baggage. And, she would tell anyone who stood in her way to step aside... now.

Pele

Pele's esoteric attributes include vitality and psychic awareness. Nervous energy can be harnessed to propel us into vital action, Pele is a fiery vitaliser and a dam breaker. She gives us a voice that resonates with inner security.

MANTRA
* Vitality

GEMSTONES
* Amber, Tiger eye, Yellow jade

AFFIRMATIONS
* I am visible
* I matter
* I am heard
* I am me
* My inner-fire revitalises me
* The more I move the more I am energised
* I have the courage to release my fiery passion
* For my highest good and the highest good of all

Her Story

The spirit of Pele dwells inside the largest active volcano in Hawaii. Described as "She-Who-Shapes-The-Sacred-Land" in ancient Hawaiian chants, this volcano goddess was passionate impulsive and volatile.

Dwelling in the craters of the Big Island's Kilauea Volcano, Pele's energy is still evident in the ribbons of fiery lava spilling down the mountainside and adding new land around the southeastern shore almost continuously. In fact, since 1983, she has destroyed more than 100 structures on the Big Island and she has added more than 70 acres of land to the island's southeastern coastline Volcanic eruptions are only one manifestation of the goddess Pele.

But even with a title as fearsome as "Destroyer," Pele is considered a Mother Goddess. As with most goddesses, she contains within her both the destructive and creative powers of life.

Considering the abundance of lava still flowing today, Pele is very much a living goddess. Apart from her manifestation as lava, she appears to people as a wise old woman bumming cigarettes, a beautiful young woman who hitchhikes only to disappear once inside vehicles, or as a little white dog.

Her Modern Energy

With such a fiery origin, is it any wonder Pele's energy is direct, volatile and eruptable? She is a force to contend with, and is related to the solar plexus chakra where we naturally feel and store our nervous energy.

The solar plexus chakra is the place of will, thought and mental attributes. The transmission of thoughts through the solar plexus triggers what we also know as "gut instinct" - the deep inner knowledge of what is right, what will be manifested reality. A thought created once has power, but a thought created repeatedly has greater power.

Take this concept one step further, a thought repeated becomes habit, and positive thoughts become positive habits.

Reconnect With Your Inner Pele

Pele gals know how to soothe her quick temper through song, chants and prayers - nothing can be more calming than music. (The people of Hawaii still "melo o Pele" - sing and chant to Pele and Kilauea). Carry a related gemstone** with you throughout the day. Bless the gemstone with your visualisation: conceptualise a happening, a reality, a limitless possibility ("for my highest good and the highest good of all") and re-create the thought every time you feel or see your gemstone throughout the day. Chant your visualisation if you can in order to connect with Pele's energy directly.

Remember to ask for enough. If you want it, and believe you deserve it, you can manifest it. Harness Pele's energy to inject the visualisation with burning desire; feel the nervous energy in your solar plexus remind you that yes, you are alive!

What Would Pele Do?

If she were in your situation, she would keep the churning 'boil and toil' under control. The bubbling lava lying within her belly would be her measure of integrity - she would wait for the right time to vent rather than explode arbitrarily.

Tyche

The goddess of fortune rules individuals' degree of Life and Luck. In helping others improve their fortune, Tyche's dice will roll in your favour.

MANTRA
* Abundance

GEMSTONES
* Lapis lazuli, aquamarine, turquoise (light blue stones), citrine, pyrite attracting good fortune

AFFIRMATIONS
* It's okay to be wealthy and happy
* Lives are made better by my efforts
* The Universe supports my every effort
* Resources are readily available in all areas of my life
* As I prosper, everyone around me prospers
* I welcome abundance into my life

Her Story

Tyche (pronounced tee-chee) is the Greek goddess of fortune. Although she was a daughter of Zeus, she was reputed to be quite irresponsible. She preferred to run about juggling a ball than to carry the Cornucopia filled with golden fruit, instead entrusting the task to her assistant Plutus. The first set of dice were found in Tyche's temple perhaps indicating the capriciousness of life and luck and the fickle manner in which she decided the fortunes of mortals.

Her Modern Energy

"Fortune" has a broader implication than material wealth. It is also intrinsically connected to the vagaries of fate and the degree of luck one encounters in life. On another plane again, it is also about the growth of our spiritual, physical, mental selves, and those of our neighbours.

As the wheel of life turns in its endless cycle, Tyche bestows protection, prosperity, success and good luck. Or not, depending on her mood. If you are feeling that luck is passing you by, now is the time to invite Tyche's energy to work for you, not against you.

Have you ever noticed the phenomenon that the more you give away, the more comes back to you? This is the Universe's circle of providence, unceasingly ebbing and flowing karmic energy and abundance. If you want to increase luck in your life, you need to create it for others, thereby promoting an abundance of good fortune in the Universe.

Reconnect With Your Inner Tyche

Identify someone around you who is in need, and ways in which you can help improve their fortune. It doesn't need to be a material contribution. It could be a helping hand at your local school or a well-timed compliment to boost a colleague's sagging ego. Maybe you could volunteer for an environmental cause, or contribute resources (time, money or knowledge) to a community project.

Act with joyful intentions, not for personal gain. This is very important if you want to attract abundance into your own life. Carry dice to keep Tyche's energy at a conscious level.

What Would Tyche Do?

... If she were in your situation, she would turn her chores into something more playful. She would ask herself, "if it's not fun, how can I make it more fun?" She would release any attachment to the outcome of her efforts and instead trust that good luck comes to those who play.

Isis

Isis' esoteric attributes include intuition and perception. She is related to the third eye chakra, the centre of illumination and insight. She is the embodiment of the feminine as a vessel for divine expression.

MANTRA
* Insight

GEMSTONES
* Moonstone, lapis lazuli, dark aquamarine (indigo-coloured stones)

AFFIRMATIONS
* I trust in my higher self
* I see, and I understand
* I trust my wisdom and insight
* I release the need to over-analyze
* My wisdom is reality; all else is illusion

Her Story

Isis is the Egyptian High Priestess, ruling with love and calm patience. She provides equilibrium and guidance through our journey. To open the door to Isis opens the door to love, love fosters the development of inner wisdom, as a budding flower blossoms into a glorious flower that takes people's breath away.

Her Modern Energy

Isis' relationship with the third eye, the psychic eye, brings us a powerful skill to cultivate our trust in our own psychic wisdom. We have all talked about our "gut instinct" at some stage in our lives... Isis lets us embellish on this inner wisdom through divine power.

She also helps clear the clutter in your head - use her energy to think more clearly and see the "big picture".

Reconnect With Your Inner Isis

Whatever the tool you use to channel the divine power, whether it be crystals, cards, runes pendulums, tea leaves, psychometry (to name a few), use Isis' powerful, easy presence to understand images or impressions presented to you.

A lovely way to start, is to use a pendulum, and ask "yes" or "no" questions.

Firstly, ask three questions:

1) What is yes?
2) What is no?
3) May I ask some questions at this time?

If you can feel the presence of Isis, proceed to ask the questions you need to ask, and trust in your inner wisdom to interpret the answers.

Let Isis open the psychic creation of the Inner Goddess in yourself.

What Would Isis Do?

... If she were in your situation, she would tune into this wisdom to find the right answers for her. She would get out of the cluttered head-space and reconnect with what's really happening in her body. She would tap into her gut instinct and trust that her choices are correct.

BP is burning endangered sea turtles alive.

UPDATE: Victory for endangered sea turtles!!!!

Over 140,000 CREDO Action members told BP and the U.S. Coast Guard to stop burning sea turtles alive during oil cleanup efforts. With help from people like you, CREDO Action was the first progressive group to organize widespread grassroots pressure to end this practice. Thanks to everyone who helped bring national attention to the issue, forcing BP and the Coast Guard to take action.

Faced with mounting pressure from a number of organizations and the press, BP and the U.S. Coast Guard have finally agreed to new measures to protect sea turtles from the oil slick burning zones.

Read the news here:
www.businessweek.com/news/20...rns.html

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

The petition reads:

BP: Stop blocking the rescue of endangered sea turtles before you burn them alive in your "controlled burns."

sign the petition here act.credoaction.com/campaign/bp_turtles/
then spread the word

Michael suggests that, given the size of the fines BP could face as a result of the turtle deaths, the company may be happy to let turtles burn, as it would make it impossible to calculate exactly how many turtles died. He notes that the bodies of dead animals are being kept as evidence to determine how much in fines BP will be liable for.

"Is BP destroying evidence to keep their liability down?" he asks. "Is anyone going to stop them?"

Diana

Powerful and protective, Diana embodies the moon's fertility and the sun's protective, nurturing power over the earth's wilderness and creatures. Diana's power brings abundance to the world. She is the huntress who provides us with spiritual "food".

MANTRA
* Adventure

GEMSTONES
* Moonstone, lapis lazuli, dark aquamarine

AFFIRMATIONS
* Abundance comes easily
* I am protected, I am safe
* I embrace life in all its wonder
* I take hold of this moment and relish it
* I am healthy and fit and have the resources to run wild
* Today I choose to do what I can, and I can do anything

Her Story

Diana is a Roman goddess - nature, fertility, children, providence and harvest are other attributes relating to her. She is often depicted with her hunting dogs, deer and an archer's bow. Her short skirt is not for attracting male attention, but is a symbol of freedom - she remains free to leap through the forests and touch the sky with her outstretched fingers.

Her father, Zeus, gave her the gift of eternal chastity, which we can choose to interpret as the ability to never fall victim to force, persuasion or misplaced guilt.

Her Modern Energy

She resounds with the wild places in our inner psyches, the parts within us that hunger for more than our daily routine.

If Diana is speaking to you today, you've just about had it up to here! Over the past few months, the spirit of adventure-loving Diana has been welling up within you. Sadly, your busy lifestyle and other circumstances probably make an escape (and "time out") seem like an impossible dream. You've got commitments you simply can't turn your back on.

The good news is, Diana, as goddess of the hunt, enjoys pursuing her dreams as much, if not more, than she enjoys fulfilling them. There is no doubt you will be successful in your quest to quench the needs of the wild-child within.

Reconnect With Your Inner Diana

If you can't jump on a plane, or take off on a motorbike, try taking a walk in a place with nature. As you walk slowly, aware of your footstep on every square of earth, pick up any stone, twig, leaf or feather that catches your eye. Repeat your affirmation while carrying the gift from nature and remember that Diana's power is with you the entire day.

What Would Diana Do?

... If she were in your situation, she would indulge the wild child within. Without hesitation nor fear of consequences, she would honour her need for adventure and escape to the outdoors.

Oya

African goddess Oya is a Goddess of Storms. She represents feminine leadership - invoke Oya when you are in need of strength in your quest for leadership and authority.

MANTRA
* Strength

GEMSTONES
* Garnet, bloodstone, tourmaline, smoky quartz (red stones)

AFFIRMATIONS
* I trust the Universe to provide
* It's OK to release my anger
* There are rainbows in every rainfall
* My new life path reveals itself to me
* I relinquish destructive influences
* I welcome Oya's recuperative power

Her Story

African deities (orishas) are usually represented by flowing, swirling images of colour and movement, depicting the elemental energies rather than an anthropomorphised image. Oya, goddess of storms, tempests and rain, dances in spirals representing tornadoes and wind - the winds of change, sweeping away the old in order to prepare for the new. She wreaks destruction in order to find and prepare for underlying calm.

She was the wife of Shango , Lord of Thunder and Fertility, and together they fight side by side creating thunder, lightning and destruction. She is goddess of the marketplace, bringing fortune to her patrons. And she is the only African orisha brave enough to confront death - she is goddess of funeral processions and cemeteries (cemeteries being known as "Oya's Garden").

Her Modern Energy

Oya embodies the fiery passion that is buried in the feminine psyche. Unleashed, she is warrior woman, armed and helmeted fighting injustice and forging victories. If you invoke Oya, be prepared to deal with the consequences! Or, if she is presenting herself to you in your life, be prepared to be tossed in her storms but be comforted in the knowledge that she is here to teach you about personal will and sense of purpose.

Mother of transformation, patron of feminine leadership, trust Oya to travel with you through this time of change. Welcome her lessons she is here to teach you, for without the rain we don't get rainbows (another symbol of Oya).

Oya is related to our base chakra, home of the kundalini energy. When our base chakra is in balance, we feel secure, alert, stable - our lives are full of active and positive energy. If you are not feeling like this, it is no wonder Oya is speaking to you today.

Reconnect With Your Inner Oya

Make a shrine to Oya with red foods such as plums, grapes and red wine, and on the next dark moon honour her in a meditation. Sit on the floor, close your eyes, and while nurturing a related gemstone, feel your spine grow and take root in the earth. Feel the strength of the earth energise your spine and your body. Reach up high and stretch for that rainbow that is formed over your head, arching over your body radiating love, calm, and protection. You are indestructible! You are strong!

Go Warrior Woman!!

What Would Oya Do?

... If she were in your situation, she would huff and puff in order to bring about a simpler life. She would welcome the winds of change and not be precious about what gets blown away. And, she would jump in puddles, chase rainbows and savour the calm after the storm.

Athena

Athena-inspired women know no fear, or that's the face they present to the world at least. Rest assured, you can be a tough, independent, clever and resourceful woman, but do not be afraid to explore your weaker side too.

MANTRA
* Courage

GEMSTONES
* Moonstone, lapis lazuli, dark aquamarine

AFFIRMATIONS
* I release negative elements from my life
* I kick butt with an iron foot inside a velvet boot
* I feel supercharged when I de-clutter
* Today I choose to be free from clutter
* I express my truth for my highest good

Her Story

Zeus' favourite goddess Athena was the beautiful warrior queen who stood guard over the ancient city of Athens. She was adopted as the patron of the arts and craftspeople of Athens, and her brave swordswomanship made her an inspiration to the military forces. Athena's grace and intelligence were underlying qualities to her immense courage and strength.

Her Modern Energy

If Athena is talking to you today, it is likely you are experiencing moments when everything seems to be on top of you - but each time you conquer another difficulty, you feel on top of the world. Ask yourself why you are entering cycles of seemingly impossible tasks, only to surmount them then search out more. The rush that achievement brings provides you with an endorphin surge that is addictive - you are compelled to seek out bigger and better challenges to sustain your habit.

If this sounds familiar, you may be presenting a strong and courageous face to the world, but really you're drawing on your strength rather than devoting time to explore your weaknesses. It's time to unclutter your life of all the issues dragging you down - the lower you are dragged down the harder you have to fight to get back on top. Do you really want to stay this exhausted?

Pick up your sword and declare battle against the clutter in your life. There is as much satisfaction to be found in simplicity as there is in resolving complexity.

Reconnect With Your Inner Athena

If you have clothes in your wardrobe you haven't worn in a year, give them away. If you have books on your shelf that you know you are not going to read again, pass them on. What junk is lurking in your drawers that you haven't used (or even laid eyes on)? Throw it out! Toss out sticky bottles of who-knows-what at the back of your fridge - fill it instead with fresh fruit, and top up with water ready for each new day to come.

As the wheel of the year turns, clear your immediate environment, and be boosted by how much lighter you feel.

What Would Athena Do?

... If she were in your situation, she would rally her courage and lead by example. She would inspire others with her diplomacy, determination and willingness to help out for the greatest good of all.
