dood. I am exhausted with the whirlwind that has been september-october. I can't believe it's almost over...Halloween it is. It seems i just got happy and not busy enough to enjoy it...and it's almost over ; ( i'm excited about DCTribal Cafe tonight though...last year everyone came in the *best* costumes! looking forward to tonight! then i'll sleep -- oh wait. no, that's december.... Also...belladonna made the best dctribal cafe flyer ever!

Please help us spread the word! HIPS is seeking performers for our 2nd annual Variety Show at the Palace of Wonders on November 16th! Last year this event packed the house and raised over $3,000 for HIPS programs assisting sex workers in leading healthy lives. HIPS is seeking performers of all kinds for our show (burlesque, lip-synching, bellydance, hoping, fire, aerialists, side show, drag king & queen, anything!). Performers will receive a free HIPS t-shirt, professional quality cd of pictures of their performance, promotion on our website, and a donation letter for tax purposes, and of course, the chance to be a part of a great show to a sold-out audience! Performance proposals of up to 10 minutes are being accepted! HIPS provides counseling, education and support to individuals engaging in sex work or sex trade in the DC area. Our programs include street-based outreach, weekly support groups, HIV prevention education, counseling, assistance in crisis and a 24-hour hotline that assist sex workers in reducing their risks for violence, abuse, HIV infection, and risks associated with drug use or abuse. HIPS also does public advocacy to help reduce the discrimination and violence faced by sex workers. Last year HIPS programs made over 6,000 contacts with sex workers in the DC area, answered over 300 hotline calls and provided hundreds of hours of counseling and assistance. The church, the cops and a lot of the neighbors support this move. And there are a lot of people calling against HYA. These offices are keeping track of the pro and anti calls that they receive and will present a total tally of those numbers at the Health Commission Meeting. I was explaining how this is really my first suhaila workshop....and she was like...really? i thought i saw you at spring caravan..... nope, not me, it was laura..who i had the pleasure of meeting this past weekend at Night of 1,000 goddesses. And, no, the world didn't explode when bizarro mavi and bizarro laura met. but it was kind of funny. we don't look so much alike now that she has bangs...but Asharah did point out that we're both wearing spiral earrings....

Hey everybody.... Many of you know my connection to the public health community in San Francisco...I'm reaching out to you all to lend them helping hand... Wednesday, Sept. 26th 6 - 7:30 pm The Homeless Youth Alliance is holding a meeting to get community support to move about a block away from their current offices to a new, fabulous location that will significantly improve their services for the young people they serve. They desparately need people who 'live' in the haight to go out and show their support for moving their center. They've encountered some resistance and recent bad press from a minority of neighbors (NIMBY-types). Even if you don't live in the neighborhood but support harm reduction based services that are saving the lives of young people in the city -- please spread the word and come out and show your support for the program. I'm actually really excited about X this saturday -- It's always a very cool event -- the amazing amount of just general creativity that goes on in a four hour period makes my head spin. I already have some great memories of this event. What I'm really excited about is i *finally* think I've broken through with the promoter and artists about making it a true collaborative creative experience between performer and musical artist.... I don't know word one what it means to perform/create electronica music live....I would really like to know more.... The thought opens up new possibiliites for improvisational performance that i really hadn't seriously considered before. At least one of the artists that I'll be dancing to on Saturday has said that she's looking forward to working with me, as opposed to just going up there and playing her normal set. So, it will be fantastic, it will be exactly like all the other times, or it will be a disaster. I'm not really sure, but at least, there are good martini's to make it interesting....
