I made it to the Burning man website.

That picture was taken on a very interesting day.
I was feeling lonely, sad and frustrated. I had an epiphany that day and I didn't like it. I was having a hard time making peace with the reality
of it. Something had happened at camp, so I left because I wanted to stay way from any drama that could have happened. I wasn't feeling my best. I was missing my old camp. My bike was too uncomfortable. My dress was too short. My hair was too frizzy.

But it ended up being the best day I had at BM this year.
I embraced being a loner. I did things in my own pace. I danced. I painted. I talked about Brazil. I had conversations in Portuguese. I hooped. I saw some amazing performers. I was told I looked beautiful. I was told I was beautiful. I was offered a couch if I was ever in town. I danced with a burning baby. I ate. I drank. I wrote down my deepest secrets for strangers to read. Talked about boobies. Felt grateful I was me.

I (heart) Burning man.

By they way, 'Why Do You Do What You Do?'

PS. My little backpack has a picture of Bob Esponja; Sponge Bob that is. The ex got it for me in Mexico. I love it because I have a Sponge Bob smile. Not for long, though. But that's a story for another blog...

Yay! You look so brightly colored and beautiful against that black and white background. My best BM day was also a lone escapade while trying to escape some drama. Adventure after adventure after adventure. Hooray for solo rainbow hoopers! (Is that a collapsed hoop around your handlebars? Looks like it!)

My best day at Burning Man also involved going off by myself and opening myself up to whatever I came across.

So glad someone was able to capture it in film for you! Thank you for blogging. Hugs, A

But things always work out in the end right? If you ever want to snuggle, just let me know.

looks like....
I made it into the Burning Man website with you! Look closely, and you'll see, the picture that's right behind your butt, the one that looks like a hoop is spinning...it's me! I was so flattered that my pic was blown up into one of the slightly larger ones for that exhibit. Synchronous photo, Burning Man style, I love it.

Glad you had a solo adventure day. Those are the absolute best.

Very interesting picture
This is indeed one of those pictures that defines an interesting moment. I don't know anything about you - nor for that matter anything much about Mr. Spongebob,,, heheh but I know of the cartoon.

As someone else said, it's the contrast of your color in front of all the black white pictures, and the you are centered in taht rise of pictures, with the sun on your back, looking like you are in ernest to get where you're going, being a momentary piece of art.

Sometimes - of course this is not a rule - peoples mis-adventures, sadness, remorse, or even despair... makes for a great photograph of the human condition. This picture doesn't show the unhappy, but it's interesting for such a pretty picture, you really were not at your personal best for it, being so preoccupied by other, mundane and sad stuff.

Sometimes I wonder if I had a harder time in life would I be a better artist? But then a sane side kicks in and says, it's not a compromise. If you happened to be photogd during a lonely moment that was pure happenstance, and thankfully, not who you are, just an incident slice of life that looked pretty in a camera.

Ahk, I've used up all my words.

Love.
Leland
