about me
I'm a touring singer songwriter, 4 CDs out plus a couple limited run tapes, on the club circuit nationally for about 12 years. I'm solo acoustic, play clubs and festivals, have opened for some big acts here and there (Shawn Colvin, Johnny Cash, etc) but mostly I just bump around to any town where a presenter or a small knot of people know my music. I also do Etch A Sketch illustrations of my songs that I sell as prints... (not kidding). I stay busy with a flurry of road trips in Spring or Fall, but I'm actually home a fair amount (I book my own tours, I create whatever schedule I want). Lately, I've put a band together for fun at a couple local shows, sort of an acoustic/americana mix - we're called "Michael McNevin & The Spokes", maybe we'll shorten it to just "The Spokes" if we play around enough. When I'm home I write, record, gig locally, sit in on jams, visit clubs, and see the sights in my own back yard. Grew up in the SF Bay Area, in this small East Bay train town (they do still exist), at the mouth of Niles Canyon, hills of Fremont, moved back to it 5 years ago - Mayberry with a twist. I ride my mountain bike around town and wish it had a basket.

Howdy. I am a touring singer songwriter, and Etch A Sketcher, born and raised in Niles, in the SF Bay Area, an old train town in the east hills of Fremont where Charlie Chaplin filmed "The Tramp". It's still old, still small, and worthy of a few more songs. I have 4 CDs out, play festivals and clubs mostly. Openers for famous people here and there - Shawn Colvin, Johnny Cash - but mostly on my own at smaller venues. Think NPR, KFOG's Acoustic Sunrise, Americana storytelling type stuff. I'm usually playing solo here and out of state, but also do some band work around NoCal lately. As for the Etch A Sketch drawings, many of them go with my songs, pretty elaborate one line cartoon illustrations using the little white knobs (CBS "Evening Magazine" featured them, NBC, FOX -- what a hobbie!). More of that in here if you dig. I also write for The Harbinger Magazine on occasion, they print my tour journals if/when I have some whacky adventure worth tabbing on (archived on my web site; but maybe I can fit them in here too once I get a better handle on this stuff). Thanks for visiting, enjoy the music and art, see you at a show somewhere!
There are two kinds of seats - seats WITH holes, and seats WITHOUT holes.

This is Farmer John McCaffrey. He sits on a seat here with no holes. But he decided to put his talents to work across the highway from his barn, up near Laytonville, CA. A solitary toilet now sits about 30 feet off the highway, right out in the open. People turn their heads, laugh, honk, stop, do u turns, take pictures, and occasionally sit on it. And then of course they sign his Toilet Journal and have a beer with him... read more
