HDTV vs. BluRay...?

Thinking about getting an HD DVD player....is it worth it? Will HD and BluRay both survive? Should I wait a little longer to see what happens - dont want to end up buying a 'betamax'. Any advice welcome. I am clueless. Before you ask I DO have a TV that is HD compatible (Background: Doug wants the new Bladerunner DVD for Xmas so am considering getting it on HD and buying a HD DVD player)

This morning I am ringing around all the utilities and it struck me - who chooses what Musak to play. Do they have a Director of Musak who chooses the genre of music for the service? Are there Musak consultants that analyse a customer base? Do you get better Musak when you sign up for a service than when you cancel. How the hell do they choose what to use? One song does not suit all and the generic 'hotel lobby' music that they normally end up is the pits. Anyway, that was my thought for today

For all you playa haters I thought I'd make it easy for you to write your blog entries this year. All you have to do is pick the appropriate phrases. Just trying to help :) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- I really get sick/fed up/bored of hearing about everyone's burner preparations/concerns about playa weather/packing chaos/art projects at this time of the year. What is it with you that you need to tell us everything about your plans/art project/packing list/ in minute/excruciating/nitpicking detail. I am not interested in hearing about your frilly panties/welder problems/funding shortfalls. I never understood the attraction/want to go/want to go again. It was so much better at home/in 2006/in 2005/in 2004/in 2003 (etc) Then when you come back I have to hear your playa stories for 3/6/9/12 months about how it was a mind blowing/awesome/radical/hellish experience and that you are already planning next year/made the best friends/met the coolest guy/had the worst experience of your life/got dosed. I cant wait until you go and I can find parking in SF/get a reservation at Gary Danko /have the city to myself

A levels

I have been listening to Virgin radio today and today is the day that the UK A-level results come out. A-levels are the exams that we take at 18 that determine university entrance. We specialize in 3 subjects from 16-18. I did Chemistry, Biology and Physics. A-levels are a weird exam, I've heard people in the states compare the level to 2nd level college here. All I remember is that they were the hardest exams I ever took - and the ones that had the most riding on them. I think the English system is both great, in that you can specialize so early and yet a little restrictive in that you HAVE to specialize so early I remember the day I got my results with angst - I didn't do well enough to get in to my first choice University and had to wait a whole weekend to find out if I got to go to Reading where I ended up (studying Pathobiology). Of course things have change a bit since then and with a PhD and a MBA under my belt I don't have to remember that fateful day with fear - though I DO suffer from recurrent nightmares of not studying enough/waking to sit exams which I am sure originate from that that fateful day. (i looked for a picture for the post but came up with rectal and gyno exams so decided not to add one ;)
