For youse monkeys who can read. . .

The problem: neglected books in the basement collecting dust. The other challenge: chasing down elusive books that have gone out of print. I am amazed by Bookmooch - www.bookmooch.com - one of those rare killer applications that has materialized out of the noise of that thar intraweb.

It works like this. . . you list books you want to get rid of and agree to send them promptly when people ask for them. You get points in bookmooch credit for both of these tasks. Search for the books you want, if anyone has them in their inventory you can mooch them, and then they send them to you. . . for free.

In only a couple of weeks, I've scored several excellent finds (including Cormac McCarthy's The Road - the week it was published). My stacks of forsaken pulp are disappearing at a rapid pace. . . and reappearing in the hands of people who want to read them. All for the modest price of a little postage. Awesome.
