It was once claimed that Miriam could not dance the way she does and be where she's from. I do not see this as a geographic slight, but rather testament to the sheer other(outer?)worldiness of the way her body moves. It evokes disbelief in others. Every now and then I try to keep up, but all too often, I just follow in her orbit.
Have you ever walked Portland's streets or parks with her? To do so is divine. A fount of information, she will reel/peel off the genus, family and species of plants like layers of petticoats, describe natureopathic uses for moss, and find homes for faeries all in the same block. Botanical latin does not get much sexier than this.
My retina is seared by the arc of her poi. My ear soothed by the strains of her cello. My flesh enclosed in the web of her mad crochet skillz.
These are the tangible elements of Ms. Burke. But don't forget the squishy ones either, those harder to grasp and not always readily apparent. She exudes integrity. Her intuition astounds on a regular basis. And her ability to communicate? It's not always something you think of, yet is essential to any relationship of any kind. And she's got it in spades. Not the overly-chatty way, but the uncanny ability to verbalize her thoughts, feelings, and emotions and convey them that are at the same time baring and expressive without being over-bearing and oppressive.
P.S. She's a hottie.

I am simultaneously thrilled and nervous to come home....

So much to tell, so unbelievable that it's only been a week!
I've spent the last two days moving into my apartment. I have amazing housemates. I met the huge black butterfly first...she fluttered a welcome as I came in. The cutest one is the two inch long baby gecko, the creepiest one the rat (but at least he's a small one and seems to stay downstairs away from where I sleep), and the most persistant ones the ants that are determined to build a hill a few inches inside my front door, s...

As I journal nightly, it seems like posting blogs should be a logical extension, not terribly difficult to do with some regularity. But I am in love with the tactile satisfaction of script unfurling against paper and as of yet unconvinced that my words are potent enough to survive the scrutiny of others, though the loving, supportive comments you lovely creatures post do much to unhinge those last vestiges of reluctance. Most of all I want to bring you with me, carry you in my pocket so you...
