The good, the bad, and the ugly.

The good: I received a promotion!

The bad: After losing 30 pounds, I've been stuck at the same weight for two months.

And the ugly: My first belly dance recital. Diametrically opposed from my first ballroom performance in every way. : (

Hi, Phoenix, Kina!

I don't know why, 'cause I was so excited and happy during my December Samba performance, but I was stressed to the max yesterday. The recital lasted about three hours or so and we were the next to the last to go on. By the time we got up, I could barely breathe. Although I calmed down once we started, I never did get that "happy" feeling and it was a real effort to smile. Naturally, with all that, I screwed up several times.

I'm aggravated that I messed up (who likes that?), but I'm really disappointed in myself for stressing out so bad and not enjoying something I truly do love doing, you know?

I'm sorry it was so stressful for you.

Not your fault! And nothing to be sorry about. *shrug* Just thought it would be easier (after all, I led hours of practices), not to mention fun. *rolls eyes at my own preconceived notions*

No worries; I'm bruised, not beaten. *smile* I met this morning for the first practice of my next performance, and this time I will be better prepared!

And, truly, I feel better now that I've admitted how difficult it was. It's quite possible the Samba performance gave me an unrealistic view of performing in general. No worries - I know now. : )

I'll tell ya that I ALWAYS get nervous before a performance...but it does get easier. And it's never all that easy to go on next to last. I like going on early and getting it over with. I hope you will take a chance and perform again.
I'll be having a ladies night out gathering at the studio soon where I hope my students will simply perform for each other. I hope you will try it out again then :-)

If it helps any, I was shaking before I went on, and I was the last performer of the day. It never stops, what changes is applying the nervous energy to the performance.

No worries, Phoenix! I've already begun attending practices for my next performance - the Belly Button's Summer Solstice celebration in Winchendon on June 21st. : )

Kina - NOW you tell me!!!! ; )
