unconferencing, attempts at the collective wisdom thing?
December 9, 2007
(just thinking of you... hoping you are well, dear friend)
Recollection upon numerous authentic moments of utter foolishness,
particularly asking if R U R U a Rutabaga,
and the public works of the oddity of our normalcy,
and appreciating that U R the only Rutabaga with whom
these moments have been ALWAYS occurring;
missing that full-spirited communication
where everything is allowable and does occur,
where yoUR self always sets off in me an uncontrollable outburst
of LAUGHTER,
followed by an "again!"
YoUR reliability in the passion of creativity
is admirable and appreciated.
YoUR friendship such a gift.
Here's hoping that our root vegetables are able yet again
to speak the language of no time.
hugs and kisses and dances and gibberish to you!

about me
these days, most of the time, losing it....
sense of direction, purpose, meaning, connection, people....
trying not to hold on to stuff that needs to be let go...
determining worth, truth...personal & social...
is there a way to waste time well?...if things do get accomplished it seems not by planning,
it´s usually more about timing...listening, watching for it...
kairos...godot...

My thing over past years around here in this inner city area has been about trying get others (but mainly myself) inspired to vision, dream and take some ownership of our neighborhood, community and city…
Having some sort of creative community space within which to build this kind of energy has been the main challenge.
I've worked on a couple of different proposals and this latest one came about after realizing the potential of some newly vacated Sound Transit properties right along ...

Improvising Democracy
Finding a Voice....
Listening to the Body, Re-inventing Public Space.
There are times when what needs to be spoken cannot be done with words. Finding a voice is a process...m eanwhile we do have these bodies that often speak for us...
Call it body language or maybe, "starting a movement", there's an immediate ability through movement to communicate with and even change our su...

the saturday contact improvisation jam in tanzfabrik, berlin:
what other social venue allows for people to come and discover their tune, their dance, movement, expression, or non, so fully, so openly, so much according to personalized impulse and direction? the contact improvisation jam in most places around the world, is a place rich in variety and style of movement and expression;
yeah, it can be chaotic, it can be out there, but it's also great to have such a place to be able to play......

the subject has been on my mind ever since arriving here in europe, and there really is no way to avoid it...
so much public space and sense of place here, such a great tradition of public life...
grand boulevards, imposing, arresting historical monuments, churches, statues, squares, plazas abounding, street markets, stalls, all designed to bring pause, providing the opportunity to slow down, stop and maybe even reflect and re-imagine ourselves in the midst of the daily routine, to have th...
