some of the best organic fair trade chocolate out there......

ummm.....ok.....
so maybe you know that i really love dark chocolate, the vegan organic kind
and that i do have a bit of a sweet tooth

i truly do enjoy trying all the different varieties of organic dark chocolate with xyz, abc, ghi, etc
and also enjoy trying organic chocolate in diff. countries too, while travelling in oz and NZ that was one of my sweet indulgences, head to the health food store and check out the chocolate section!! and can i say that in NZ where everything was much more expensive than home that a HUGE bar of chocolate was actually CHEAPER!!

k....so where am i going with this?? ....
there is a AWESOME organic/fair trade company based out of Cobble Hill (outside of victoria), Vancouver Island that make by far THE BEST organic chocolate bars i have tried, and they have some of the best flavour combinations i have ever seen ....
thusfar, i have only found these bars in a grocery store in victoria (i don't remember the name of it !?) and haven't seen them on the mainland yet .... (which i plan on doing something about!) , you can buy them online from their store

for you chocolate lovers, please check out
www.organicfair.com

and click on the chocolate link and read about the different varieties!
be prepared to start drooling......:)

denman island choc was my favorite, and dagoba has good flavours, now imagine combining the two of them and adding superpowers and you've got organicfair

field trip anyone?!

Wow,
I was literally yesterday browsing for good local dark chocolate options... (I just created a new commitment to buy more locally produced foods)

So your timing is highly serendipitous!
and to think..... My Dad Lives in Cobble Hill!!!!!

Maybe I can take orders when I go visit!
Thanks

You can buy this at the MARKET on YATES.
They're on the corner of Yates and Quadra in Vic-town.

Vanilla Bean, Cacao Nibs, Honey and Rose Essence... apparently these people are looking for Gods and Godesses, because really, only the heavenly could take this in...

Thank you Angelic Miss Bliss...thank you, thank you...oh GOD, thank you.

Rae -- I started buying the Cocoa Camino chocolate on the basis of your assessment as it being the most ethical and tasty chocolate overall of the popular brands. Does this one surpass that?

The Good Stuff...
Shiraz,
Cocoa Camino is ONE of THREE direct trade companies in Canada. Their official name is La Siembra. The other two companies are Level Ground Trading, and Ten Thousand Villages. These three companies, often work together and sell each other's products. They all follow a similar business model, working directly with origin to build, foster and create a stronger community in both locations.
Indeed, if you're looking for the most ethical, righteous, well sourced, excellent product of purity... then I would go with the Cocoa Camino. They absolutely have no blood flavoured chocolate. There are still plenty of food miles on their products, but the reality is, that we live in Western Canada, and cocoa beans grow in South America, and all of the processes for chocolating take place in Belgium or Northern France. This is the reality of all good, dark chocolate. For example a company like Denman Island doesn't actually makes their own chocolate. Daniel from Denman has friends in Belgium... he purchases the chocolate from there, and brings it over in bulk format... then turning it into fun shapes like frogs and hearts, for those of us that indulge.
Indeed the chocolate that Miss Bilss is talking about is delicious.
But in the future, unless our farming friends can figure out how to grow cocoa here... the reality of this delight might not be so accessible.
We have two options here: One is to purchase from the most ethical and direct trade, whose business is Canadian, and you've made decisions about your consumer habits that are of a tight and righteous value system, then I would continue to buy Cocoa Camino.
If however, you truly understand that anything with a Fair Trade logo on it, ends up supporting a lot of bureaucracy in Ottawa, however the company is from Cobble Hill, and supports a family with children... then I would go ahead and buy Corazon.

And finally, if you just smoked a bunch of good ol' B.C. bud, and have the munchies, or major period cramps, then I would go into the Market on Yates, and tune into whatever feels the best...
