<div>yesterday i killed a snake w/ a shovel, broke my toe, convinced my son's principal not to expell him (quite the accomplishment since we are in like, what, day 12 of the school year?), left my daughter at the wrong soccer field and put dinner in the oven without ever turning it on. not to dwell on the negative, but damned - i'm amazed carol brady didnt pack her crap and head for reno long before mike came home from work. just a few short weeks ago, i was having the time of my life. who would have thought that extreme heat, white out wind storms, sun stroke and a hangover would be more fun than monday on planet housewife.
get me some dayglo fur and a martini!</div>

<div>I want to run, I want to hide
I want to tear down the walls
That hold me inside
I want to reach out
And touch the flame
Where the streets have no name...
I want to feel, sunlight on my face
See that dust cloud disappear without a trace
I want to take shelter from the poison rain
Where the streets have no name...
Were still building
Then burning down love, burning down love...
The cities a flood
And our love turns to rust
Were beaten and blown by the wind
Trampled into dust
Ill show you a place
High on a desert plain
Where the streets have no name...

<div>one of my favorite things about this year's trip was the time spent w/ miss melanie... she honest to god was the happiest camper on the planet. the airport lost her luggage &amp; camping gear but she was still smiling when she arrived on the playa in the middle of the freaking night. no tent? no problem! mel slept in the van among approximately 84 gallons of water, 12 bags of beef jerkey and 6 bottles of vodka - and was STILL happy when she woke up the next day! the best night i had was after the burn when the two of us explored the playa and wondered at the stars and played on the swing sets and danced to the jackson 5 &amp; annie lennox and tried to make ourselves invisible to other campmates by closing our eyes and standing very still. oh, and eating imported black licorice. and mushrooms. did i mention that mel was dressed as a fairy princess at the time? my feet hurt the next day from all the prowling around we did and my sides hurt from laughing. it was, by far, the best time i've ever had at burning man. what a gal!!!!!!!</div>

<div>woah! the law of attraction... here are several instances where i've witnessed the universe moving in ways that i couldnt have imagined...
when i dropped out of school and quit my job at psychoville, i had no clue what i was going to do next. didnt know a soul in town, couldnt commit to something full time because of the kiddos, and i needed something creative that would give me social interaction and keep me grounded. i saw a tiny ad in the paper looking for a part time employee at a local winery. i thought at the very least it would get me out of the house - and who doesnt love wine?!?!? it has turned out to be my DREAM job! an amazing family of 4 does every single thing there. each person contributes their own perspective and brings unique energy to the dynamic. they are truly beautiful. i was hired to do advertising, marketing, events, and whatever was not being handled by the very busy owners. after working there a few months, i was promoted and got to pick my own title - i chose 'creative director' - nebulous enough to mean anything, more professional than 'psychic friend' or 'goddess of hospitality'.
one afternoon, this really cool couple came out to the winery and decided to sit on the deck for a bit. as usual, i worked burning man into the conversation and it turns out that the woman had a ticket and was going for the first time this year. when i invited her to camp with us, she mentioned a book that she loved called 'ask and it is given'. it basically points out that the energy level you vibrate on will attract similar energy, and the law of attraction will provide you with exactly what you have invited into your life. i usually keep this book by my bedside - linda and i went to a seminar to see the authors and we use the exercises in it daily. but that day, i had brought the book with me to work because i wanted to show it to my new boss. here was this gorgeous creature at my fabulous work place, sharing topics that i could totally relate to and proving that there is serious energy at work in the universe.
about a week ago, i was working on a bumper sticker to gift at burning man. when i finished the design, i showed dan and said, 'something is missing from this'. when he asked what it was, i said, 'a jeep to stick it on'. that night, we saw a red wrangler parked at the foot of a driveway in our neighborhood w/ a sale sign in the window. 'look honey - its like someone left a baby in a basket on our front steps! can we keep it? please?' SCORE!!!!!!!! it was crazy affordable and in great shape and w/ my job at the winery i can make the payments all by myself! woot!
right now, i'm getting ready to load the kids into our sweet ride and crank some very fun tunes that my bro-in-law passed along to us. life is good.</div>

Rewind... Happy New Year!

<div>in december, i decided to change the date of my birthday. this was not an attempt to avoid getting older - my motives were much more selfish. between thanksgiving and christmas, the sully bunch celebrates four birthdays. its overwhelming. i wanted to take a deep breath and enjoy my big day. so, i sent a 'press release' out to my friends letting them know that my new birthday was going to be june 21, the first day of summer. this press release wasnt as well received as the one i issued claiming dan may potentially be the father of anna nicole's child, but i didnt take it personally. everybody loves a scandal.
2007 got off to a rocky start... school was kicking my @ss, my boss and i were constantly butting heads, i had completely stopped doing yoga...blah blah blah... i realized i was radiating tension. in march, i decided to quit my job and look for an internship that meshed w/ my class load. just after sending off a wave of resumes, i got a call from my aunt saying that my mom had been hospitalized w/ a blood infection. i hopped on a plane and spent 10 days with her in a hospital in arkansas. because of the classes i missed, i had to drop out of school for the semester. i'll be able to start the massage therapy program again from scratch in september.
anyway... long story even longer... i am calling a 'do over'. i've decided that from now on, i will face the 'new year' on march 21st - the first day of spring. i guess i should mention my inspiration for this rewind... one night at the hospital, i was watching 'american idol' with my mom. she was totally blissed out on morphine and had confused the judges with contestants on 'the bachelor'. "is she the winner?" she'd ask whenever paula abdul came on the screen. "i hope she doesnt have to go on a date with that mean one..." she'd comment during commercials. later that night, she woke up saying, 'america voted, they want me to have more drugs!!! ...let me sing again and i'll show them i can do a better job..." she was also convinced that someone was using the internet to control her legs. so. she is not in control, i am not in control. too much! i am going to use the spring to remind me that its possible to start all over and take charge.
since adjusting my mental calendar, a lot of positive changes have fallen into place... my old boss still leaves me voicemails asking if i can drive her kids to the airport over spring break, but i've changed the ringtone on my phone so i know she's calling. i went on a second interview at a chiropractic office and it looks promising. sigh, i had to turn down a dream job at a medspa because the hours werent compatible w/ soccer season. however, i did just land a sweet part time job that i'll do on the weekends as an events coordinator at a local winery. so i wont be hairless and wrinkle free - i'll be slinging wine in the pouring room and hula hooping in a vineyard as the weather warms up.
highlights from the new year that i left behind...
going to montauk for the 'burning beach ball' with my very best friend, linda and climbing into a pool of rose petals after realizing that my 'deep blue sea' costume smelled like dead starfish.
spending a day with suzanne moe and starting my new tattoo.
sitting in on the cadaver lab at the medical campus and holding a human heart in my hands.
seeing my mom get stronger every day and realizing that i've inherrited a lot more than craziness from her.
coming home to my kiddos and seeing that my hubby had cleaned our room...

so here's to the spring and to the new year and to new adventures! bring it!
shine on you crazy diamonds!!!!!!!!
