Windmill Manifesto
Tue, April 29, 2008 - 7:54 AMThe lumber is ordered, work day calendar posted, and hands are reaching out for responsibilities like so much wet clay. We hold them together for a moment, gazing into each other's eyes as we feel it squish between our fingers, them I let go, let go, and trust and believe and they walk away stroking a cute little mud puppy.
I'm sure some elements will fall like dead pigeons in the face of logistics and artistic triage, and I have to remind myself of the times I've gotten to the playa spitting and fighting to bring something that clearly did not want to be there, and was almost grateful for the struggle in sleighing that windmill for the chuckle it gave me in knowing it was me all along.
Right now I've got so much gratitude for friends and family, and it's a great way to warm into the summer months ahead.
Thanks to Spectabillis for posting the inspiring Don Quixote painting.

My first trip to BM was as part of a theme camp that was part of a village over on 2:00 and B in the large sound zone. i started attending meetings in April and was there for many many big brainstorming, fundraising, and building get togethers off playa, and long days of dusty work for a very full week there. I can still remember the chasms between what was imagined, and then planned, and then settled on, and finally settled for. Every year since, with every theme camp I've helped, it's been the same thing. It's amazing. Even the biggest most expensive jaw dropper out there has had elements that were left by the wayside.
I guess burners suffer from so much imagination, it has to be that way. If it wasn't we'd have the moon sitting at 3:00, the Eiffel Tower at 9:30 and the Statue of Liberty at 5:30 (and not representations or models, but THE moon, THE Eiffel Tower, and THE Statute of Liberty) and someone would truck out the wall of China to serve as the trash fence, just for giggles. |
