Article "Sui Generis? Anna Sui, others sue Forever 21: How original are you?"
by Lynn Yaeger
September 25th, 2007 7:34 PM

Elena Dahl models the "Forever WANTED" T-Shirt

"Did the prisoners at Leavenworth consider suing Karl Lagerfeld at Chanel for ripping off the saggy belt-less trousers they wear in the prison yard? Did hundreds of anonymous graffiti artists sue Stephen Sprouse for printing tags on Louis Vuitton satchels?

OK, you're not going to believe this—but you know Anthropologie, that place where you just bought that thick, knit, flared sweater exactly like the one Dries Van Noten showed on his runway last year? The store where you purchased all those puffy jolie-laide fake Marni dresses in charmingly hideous prints last spring? The shop that currently stocks those ersatz Marc Jacobs jackets with all the military bells and whistles that you're trying to make up your mind about? Well, that very venue is currently pursuing a lawsuit against Forever 21 for—get this—knocking off Anthropologie clothes.

It's the season, it seems, for such litigation. More than 20 other designers are also suing Forever 21, including Diane Von Furstenberg—she of the famous wrap dress—who claims that the 21'ers knocked off not just her styles but the very prints she employs: in one example, a rather overwrought pattern of blue-and-white triangles that she calls "scattered stone," and which actually looks a lot like an old Marimekko design. And in her capacity as president of the Council of Fashion Designers of America, the glamorous Diane has descended on Washington, attempting to get federal legislation passed that would make clothes-copying clothes a criminal offence.

Anna Sui, who based an entire career on resuscitating, revamping, and rethinking the vintage fashions of the 1960s and '70s, the decades when she was young, is also livid about Forever 21 ripping off her designs, and she's suing as well. So incensed is she that for her spring '08 show (a collection that style.com described in part as "pure Barbara Hulanicki," citing the designer of the iconic 1970s label Biba), Sui stuffed each gift bag with a T-shirt depicting the owners of Forever 21 on a Wild West–style poster with the legends "Forever Wanted" and "Thou Shalt Not Steal."

Asked to comment on her pending litigation, Sui's spokesperson said, "Anna isn't doing press on this (we gave one quote to the Times only). . . . The shirt is her statement." (Actually, nobody is very anxious to get back to me about this—repeated calls to Anthropologie were not returned.) It's easy to see why Sui is so mad—after all, Forever 21 did replicate her stripes-and-giant-roses print. Still, when it comes to fashion, who can claim to be original?

I took a spin recently around Sui's Soho store to see if this could be a case of a very chic pot calling a fashion-forward kettle basic black. And here is what I found: many garments that appeared to be line-for-line copies of clothes from the '70s that were clearly purchased from flea markets; a newspaper print that is startlingly similar to one touted by John Galliano a few seasons back; a ribbon-trimmed badge pinned to a sweater exactly like the ones employed by the Fake London brand on its sweaters.

But let's be fair: Galliano wasn't the first guy to do a newspaper print either, and lots of designers spend Sundays at the flea market. (They are, in fact, notorious for sweeping through the Manhattan Vintage Clothing Show-—the next one is October 12—and buying like wild animals.)

And just a few weeks ago, Marc Jacobs was furious with Suzy Menkes, the critic for the International Herald Tribune, who took apart his most recent runway collection, accusing Jacobs of borrowing rather too liberally from Comme des Garçons, Martin Margiela, and John Galliano. Jacobs fired back in the September 13 issue of Women's Wear Daily:

"I've never denied how influenced I am by Margiela, by Rei Kawakubo, those are people that inspire my work; I don't hide that. . . . Of course there are comparisons to other things. I'm a designer living in this world who loves fashion . . . I'm attentive to what's going on in fashion, I'm influenced by fashion, that's the way it is. I have never ever hidden it. I have never insisted on my own creativity, as Chanel would say. I have my interpretation of ideas I find very strong. Jil Sander is influenced by Comme des Garçons, Miuccia Prada is influenced by Comme des Garçons, everyone is influenced by Comme des Garçons, Martin Margiela. Anybody who's aware of what life is in a contemporary world is influenced by those designers."

Well, all right then! So it's OK for Marc to rip off Comme, but somehow shady and vaguely reprehensible for Zara to do Prada or Bebe to do Versace or Forever 21 to do practically everybody? It's telling that Jacobs should invoke the name of Coco Chanel, who had her own personal revelation about copying when she visited the S. Klein department store in Union Square in 1933. According to her biographer, Axel Madsen: "Chanel proclaimed that knockoffs were nothing more than 'spontaneous publicity.' It was at Klein's that she decided that it was hopeless to try and fight it, that piracy was the flattering result of success."

I hope Lanvin designer Alber Elbaz will be similarly flattered that I am sitting here in my fake Lanvin H&amp;M black smock dress with its jaunty oversized zipper halfway up the back and its $59 price tag. I can assure him that it has generated plenty of spontaneous publicity. Not that owning it will stop me from purchasing an authentic Lanvin full price at Barneys any day now—just as soon as I have an extra $3,500 floating around."</div>

Marcel Marceau and his Art
~Article written by Timothy W. Ryback

"Paris: Marcel Marceau died this past weekend in Paris. He was 84 and had been anticipating his death at least since July 1997, when he spent an evening on the terrace of a palace near Salzburg talking about his concern that when he passed the art of mime might die with him. He had a right to be concerned.

His name became synonymous with his art. In the 1950s and 1960s, Marceau elevated this finely nuanced silent form of art, L'art du silence, as he called it, to a form of mass entertainment. He won an Emmy for his performance on the Max Lieberman Show, and appeared with Johnny Carson, Merv Griffin and Mike Douglas. In 1976, he made a cameo appearance in Mel Brooks's "Silent Movie." When Brooks asks him, in subtitle, if he is willing to appear in the film, Marceau provides the only soundtrack line in the movie, a tart, distinctly French flavored, "Non!"

In the summer of 1997, Marceau came to Salzburg for a single performance and was scheduled as part of the public events preceding the major operatic and orchestral productions that would follow in the month ahead.

Marcel was somewhat annoyed, as I learned from his agent, that the festival had booked him in the small festival hall, that seats 900, rather than the sprawling Grosses Festspielhaus that accommodates more than three times that number, but he performed brilliantly that evening.

Dressed in his signature striped suit with his battered silk opera hat and single red rose, suggesting the fragility of human existence, he was buffeted by the invisible vicissitudes of life in "Walking against the Wind."

He explored the full range of human emotions in "The Mask Maker" and took us through the stages of human life in "Youth, Maturity, Old Age and Death," a performance that had once left an awed critic to observe that Marceau accomplished in "less than two minutes what most novelists cannot do in volumes." The small festival hall was at most two-thirds full.

After the performance, Marceau withdrew to Schloss Leopoldskron, a rococo palace on the outskirts of Salzburg that had once belonged to the Festival founder Max Reinhardt.

Silent on stage, Marcel was a natural raconteur. Sitting on the palace terrace on a warm summer evening with several bottles of wine, he mused late into the night about his art and his career.

He claimed he had learned the power of illusion on a sun drenched afternoon toward the end of World War II while fighting with the French Résistance. He and a companion had entered a clearing and suddenly found themselves face-to-face with a unit of German soldiers. Startled, Marceau acted as if he was the advance guard of a larger French force and demanded the German surrender.

As Marcel related the incident, he suddenly sprang to his feet and struck a predatory pose. The night air filled with menace and, an instant later, triumph. Though it was well past midnight, I still see the helmets of the surrendering Germans glinting in that sunlight meadow.

Mostly, though, Marcel spoke that evening about the fragility of his art. He observed that "ars long, vita brevis" was a verity that did not apply to "l'art du silence." Unlike novels or plays or operas, which could be printed, recorded, preserved, the art of mime was a transitory and ephemeral art. It existed only in the moment. And more unsettling still, essentially in one man, Marcel Marceau.

For Marceau, this was not a point of artistic conceit but of pragmatic concern. If the man and the art form were essentially one, he said, then when the man died the art form died with him, and with it his own legacy. He had therefore established a school of mime in Paris to mentor protégés, and had scripted "The Bowler Hat," a multi-character theatrical "mimodrama," that was to premier in Munich that autumn.

Marcel also talked about a system of notation he was developing for mime, similar to music notation, that could be "read" by performers in future. When asked why a video of a mime performance would not suffice, he mused in response: Would a video tape of a performance of Beethoven 9th Symphony suffice for musicians in the future?

Marceau worked relentlessly in the intervening decade to secure the future of the art of silence. "The Bowler Hat" went on to performances in Paris, London, Tokyo, New York and elsewhere. Marceau himself held triumphant comeback tours to packed houses and extended engagements in Europe and America, but he never succeeded in finding a successor who commanded the stage the way he did. Now he is dead and a part of his art has died with him."

MORE DUSTY THEN EVER
Tue, August 21, 2007 - 5:32 AM

"The dust this year has been worse than anything I've seen in the past 7 years BY FAR. There is a dune a foot deep outside the radar shack that formed in just 2 days. There was a complete white out INSIDE the staff's mess tent (about 40x100 foot). It takes both wind and dust to make a storm. We obviously have the dust, so hope for calm winds when you arrive. With it this dusty now, it has the potential to be dustiest year ever once record numbers of people arrive. Come prepared."

Dear Hang Man-

<a href="http://people.tribe.net/mizzcherrypie/blog/705346d8-23a1-4593-a6a7-5e2ada5d9a8d"> <img class=" picThumb" src="http://images.tribe.net/tribe/upload/photo/baa/932/baa9323a-9174-492a-88b6-6e61fee62a86.thumb" width="49" height="78" alt="" />
    </a>
<div>It seams like this may have been the longest winter of my life, since I lived on a snow covered hillside in upstate New York when I was twelve.

I have been going through so much this winter, internally, that I have not been spending as much time out and about. I have missed you all so much, and as you spend the weekend at Alma, I prepare myself for a summer of Fun, Sunshine, Dancing and Design.

I was sitting here this morning, sipping on coffee, and taking in the quiet of the day. All my roommates are gone at least for now and I have spring cleaning to do. Time to ready myself for the next part of this journey forward.

And with that, I opened up to dictionary.com to look up a word, and found myself playing hang man. I LOVE words. I love writing, and like so many of my crafts, I feel I owe more time to writing, like I owe time to my silks, and my clothing designs.

So I am playing hangman and as if a note was sent from the universe, this is the phrase I solved for....

"I make the most of all that comes, and the least of all that goes." -Sara Teasdale

I was compelled at last, to sit down and write this love letter to you, my friends and contemporaries. For this has been my lesson to learn all winter. And there are so many opportunities coming for all of us! I I am reminded that we can have what ever we set ourselves to task to accomplish. I am dedicating the rest of my thirties to developing my master of focus, and to mastering my abilities.

I have been pondering many questions this winter... as I come face to face with the reality of the world around me, and the one I have created, both consciously and unconsciously.

So this is what I want to know, and these are real questions I am asking myself. and now you...
How do you balance the mundane of life with creative passions?
How do you handle yourself, when all around you, life is moving faster then you?
What daily practices do you have in place that keep you centered?
What areas of your life are working, but not as well as you'ld like them to be?
what are your goals?
What do you want to accomplish?
Are there people in your life that you have not told you love them? Are you holding a grudge or being stingy?
Are you complete with your family?
When was the last time you called your mom or anyone for that matter, just because you wanted to hear their voice?
Are you incomplete with anyone and need to find a place of forgiveness? do you forgive easily?
Do you know what your deal breakers are inside of relationships? and do you know what you need to be well and to continue to grow and be nourished?
What do you want to be acknowledged for?
What do you want to be known in the world as?
Who do you want to live with and where?
If you could change one thing about yourself, that is a weakness and make it a strength what could you accomplish?
If I don't ever make it...(insert big dream here) will I regret my life?
Who Do I have to BE today, to love every minute of what is to come?

I am profoundly moved by so many in our community. And often wonder, how we will impact the world. Individually and together, we are faced with many challenges along the way, that require our own sense of self, to determine our way forward, and a world in turmoil, still about who has the bigger balls of them all, and we are here, working, growing, playing, fucking, dreaming, and yes, partying our asses off.

I have to say, we have got some amazing talent, so much so, that I sometimes forget that there is another world out there, and that there are people, who are going through their reality, without any thoughts to Garter Belts and Fishnets. Seriously?!

When I first discovered people in the Burning Man Community, I was awestruck by the self expression and the colorfulness of each person, and being around a group of my peers and contemporaries, is almost more then a girl can stand.

This past year, has been filled with opportunities to grow, and develop, and I think I am learning great lessons, but the weight of the learning has me feeling like I need to seriously lighten up. Develop a more complete sense of humor, and keep on keepin on.

Anyway, if you have hung in this long.... Thanks and I love you. Intimately, and without reason.

with only good wishes and great respect.
love.

oh and yeah... it's dance season baby, I better see you on the dance floor!!!! (my next big party is elysium)

A BIG MAC

<a href="http://people.tribe.net/mizzcherrypie/blog/97c34833-f7ee-408e-9b4b-d6debc1dd6f9"> <img class=" picThumb" src="http://images.tribe.net/tribe/upload/photo/e87/522/e87522ce-4ba6-469d-b1f1-c1ebf7c05cca.thumb" width="49" height="78" alt="" />
    </a>
<div>Well, I have less then a week before my audtion for Project Runway. I still have a ton to do and a brewed pot of coffee to consume.
I sent my application out on Wednesday, and I am now in the process of putting together my portfolio.

Fortunately, I have a very supportive family and my mom sent me a box I have been storing in her house since college. It has all of my info from the shows that I have designed and old photographs.

This image above, I scanned from a negative. I didn't even bother to clean it so it's spotty, but I wanted to share this one with you.

I was taking a photo class... Black and White Photography 300, or an independant study maybe. I had the best photo teacher ever, but he gave really annoying assignments.

For this assignment we had been instructed to take photographs of a big mac sandwich.... you know from McDonalds... Of course he didn't say the big mac from mcdonalds, but certainly when he said..."I want you to take photographs of the Big Mac." It's what we all heard."

I did shoot pictures of the big mac too, and fries and a coke. I was so dissatisfied... but I thought it would be good tongue and cheek to use an american flag, given that we are a fast food culture.... but somewhere in there my inner burner came out and I was stripped down, wearing a hat with a star...

When I handed this in, Terry, my professor, wanted to know what was behind using myself for the image and I told him this true story... My two friends Jon and Joe used to MAC on girls... you know, aka HIT ON... anyway,... before we were friends, they used to call me the Big Mac... ahaha. And that's no Joke. True Story right here.

Oh, and I got an "A".

    </a>
										<div>Well, here we go.

I just got back from fuente eterno, What an amazing time!
Thank you so much to all who loved me up so well.
I am consistantly meeting wonderful new people. truly, I am blown away. And each event is an opportunity to also develop further knowing with such good friends. woot woot.

And NOW Project Runway...
Auditions are being held in only 4 cities. LA is going to be the first city, and NY the last. To get on the show, I have to be at the audition in LA. weekends of March 30,31 and April 1. Which means, that I may not be able to attend the RLD fundraiser "A Fools Paradise" unless I can get in to audition the first day.

So, wish me luck and if I'm not there you will know why.

I am currently working on a few new designs that I will be showing when I get to the audition. if you want to know more about the casting process, go to http://www.bravotv.com/Casting/index.shtml

Please send your good thoughts my way, and I promise to represent. I am looking for a few of my friends to go with me and be my models for that weekend. If you are interested.... you could wear one of my pieces home. that means I will make it for you in exchange of you being there with me. Anyone interested in being model please send me a private message. I would like to take 3 to 5 people with me in my wear.

I also appreciate your support. This is something I have always wanted. I have been sewing since I was seven.
The first thing I ever made was a christmas stocking.
I announced to my mom that I thought I needed a bigger stocking for santa. She told me if I wanted a new one, I should make it myself.

I said ok, how do I do that? and she told me to get some fabric and make a pattern. so I picked out some colors, blue and red, and some lace for trim, and I sat down and traced my leg for the pattern. lol. much like I did just last week. *giggles*.

Anyway, thanks for listening, and I will keep you abreast of my progress.

I love you all!

meow.

P/S
I made the skirt that cake is wearing in this picture.</div>

    </a>
<div>Last Night I had the distinct pleasure of going to Club Marquee in NYC to celebrate. I was flanked by Rick (in picture above), from our SD contigency, AND my best friend Jason Kitty Conover. I was the only one there in Burner Gear. Talk about shaking it up on the dance floor, I got pulled to dance on the go-go stage.. woot woot. You'ld think that people living in NY have never seen a live and fleshy ass in December. ;P sooooooooo I missed the Misfit toy Party, but I was still dressed to be a misfit. I danced until 5am NY time to stay in tune with you all in LA.

Love you all.

Kisses.

<a href="http://people.tribe.net/mizzcherrypie/blog/f31bfd1d-1953-4093-94aa-012cfb22710f"> <img class=" picThumb" src="http://images.tribe.net/tribe/upload/photo/ca5/5c4/ca55c498-9673-47bc-a46c-2fd551ebee11.thumb" width="65" height="64" alt="" />
    </a>
<div>" A woman's issues of soul cannot be treated by carving her into a more acceptable form as defined by an unconscious culture, nor can she be bent into a more intellectually acceptable shape by those who claim to be the sole bearers of consciousness. No, that is what has already caused millions of women who began as strong and natural powers to become outsiders in their own cultures. Instead, the goal must be the retrieval and succor of women's beauteous and natural psychic forms. "

"Once women have lost her and then found her again, they will contend to keep her for good. Once they have regained her, they will fight and fight hard to keep her, for with her their creative lives blossom; their relationships gain meaning and depth and health; their cycles of sexuality, creativity, work, and play are re-established; they are no longer marks for the predations of others; they are entitled equally under the laws of nature to grow and to thrive. Now their end-of-the-day fatigue comes from satisfying work and endeavors, not from being shut up in too small a mindset, job, or relationship. They know instinctively when things must die and when things must live; they know how to walk away, they know how to
stay."

" A healthy woman is much like a wolf: robust, chock-full, strong life sforce, life-giving, territorially aware, inventive, loyal, roving. Yet, separation from the wildish nature causes a woman's personality to become meager, thin, ghosty, spectral. We are not meant to be puny with frail hair and inability to leap up, inability to chase, to birth, to create a life. When women's lives are in stasis, or filled with ennui, it is always time for the wildish woman to emerge; it is time for the creating function of the psyche to flood the delta."

From Book: "Women Who Run With the Wolves" by Clarissa Pinkola Estes, Ph.D.</div>

I'm not sure if you saw me this weekend, I was wearing flowing silks. I lost one of my hand painted pieces that I made and I miss it badly.

It is red, gold, green, with a slight hint of pink in the red. it is Rasta Color stripes... someone said it looked like like the stripes gum package. The scarf is in the picture above.

Please, if you have seen it, have it or what ever, I will be grateful to have it back.

Love.

    </a>
										<div>hey everyone. I wrote this response to Mario's Blog .... http://people.tribe.net/stilgar/blog/feab9226-4ca9-4bd0-8b71-857ac0e8f56c ....
I wanted to post it here, because I think that this is an important issue. it goes beyond The terminator for governor.

Genocide is Genocide no matter what we call it
I love you what you have to say Mario. Very insightful. I don't understand why people continue to look the other way when people are dying. period. what is happening outside of the US, all over the world.; In Darfur, people are being killed. The United States has the opportunity to show humanity around the world, to be the bigger person, to show people a better way of living, we have enough man power in the united states to rebuild Lousiana, but there it sits, since the levees broke. Nothing being done to care for our own.

This country isn't oganized around the care and well being of people. The country is oganized aound money, oil, politics, and movie stars. We are a Fat Filled sit on our asses, watch tv nation. WTF? Now, I know that we don't all choose to live this way.. but the over all look to America? Hell Yes.

I think the numbers of Death US: IRAQ is so obviously one sided in our favor... do we have to kill all those people to be RIGHT? that doesn't make us any different then the terrorists. Mis-information is the worst. that and misrepresentation.

Our Government doesn't care for it's people, no, our representatives don't represent us. WE have to use our voices or we lose our rights. it's just that simple. and you know, it doesn't matte if we want the same thing. Freedom is just that. Freedom. Freedom to choose with out consequence of religious beliefs to live a life of our own design. No matter who you are or what you do, your Rights are being taken away as surely as the next person, if you don't stand up and say what's on you mind. Express yourself. Stand up for your rights and the rights of others, VOTE Dammat!!!

I value each PERSONS life as there own. I might not want a traditional life style, but I want people to be able to choose the lives they want to live. I want all people to have the opportunity to be educated. and to fall in love, and speak their minds. I can see a world beyond the ego. I can see a world where government leaders aren't committing genocide for the sake of their own pockets and calling it being president.

For the Record, I think that George W. Bush is no different then Hitler. So what if he's killed less people. he has the same mentality. He doesn't value human life. He allows genocide to happen at the hands of other leaders and for the sake of OIL he kills the Iraqie people. He is constantly taking away women's rights, refuses to acknowledge the rights of Gay People (marriages and such). It's Bullshit. I call Bullshit.

When "in god we trust" was written on the dollar bill, the GOD that was being refered to? Gold, Oil, Diamonds. George is taking what he wants for his own legacy, and gets away with it, because the safe measures of democracy are failing at the hands of governmental agencies working, out dated and close minded. Unless we begin to stand for what we believe in, our future will be no different then our present.

Vote. VOTE. VOTE> VOTE. please.

Register Now. Vote in November. </div>

										<div>Stoning Women to Death
Coming soon to the United Nations: Iran's chief executioner of women
by Nat Hentoff

September 17th, 2006 7:29 PM
Photo of Iranian president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad: Bringing back the 'dark ages'
photo: AFP/Newscom

On . . . June 29, 2006, a court in the Islamic Republic of Iran sentenced Malak Ghorbany, a 34-year-old mother of two, to a brutal death by stoning after finding her guilty of adultery. . . . Two men who were found guilty of murder in the same court were only given jail sentences of six years. . . . The size of the stones used during the execution are required to be . . . not so large that they would kill a woman too quickly, nor so small that they would fail to cause serious injury or pain . — A letter, unanswered, to George W. Bush from John Whitehead, head of the Rutherford Institute, one of the nation's premier civil liberties organizations. The part about the stones is from Article 104 of the Iranian penal code.

Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, the president of Iran, has become an international celebrity, brandishing his nuclear program—and his yearning to wipe Israel off the face of the earth. He is visited by such personages as U.N. secretary-general Kofi Annan and Mike Wallace of 60 Minutes. In their conversations with him, neither has asked the swashbuckling leader about "honor killings" by the government of women charged with having committed "adultery."

As human rights lawyer Lily Mazahery, president of the Legal Rights Institute reports, "in 99 percent of these cases, the accused women have received no legal representation because, under the Shariah legal system, their testimony is at best worth only half the value of the testimony of men."

And there is no single executioner. These are mass murders by stone-throwing members of the community, having the kind of festive time common among American mass lynchers of blacks, when the murderers brought their children to join in the fun. In Iran too, kids are present to witness the sinners' redemption.

The capital crime of adultery, Mazahery has explained to World Net Daily, "includes [under Shariah law] any type of intimate relationship between a girl/woman and a man to whom she is not permanently or temporarily married. Such a relationship does not necessarily mean a sexual relationship.

"Further, charges of adultery are routinely issued to women/girls who have been raped—and they are sentenced to death." (Their unpardonable crime is to have been raped.)

During the continuous coverage in this country of Iran's nuclear threat and its crucial support of terrorists in Iraq and elsewhere in the Middle East, there has been scarcely any mention of this horrifying dimension of the culture of Iran: sangsar, the stoning to death of women.

Mazahery, the Persian American lawyer whose mission has long been to save Iranian women from this and other brutal treatment, tells me that sangsar, "dating back to the dark ages," was, for a time, suspended by the pre-revolutionary regime due to pressure from international human rights organizations, combined with protests from civilized persons around the world. But when the mullahs took over in the 1979 revolution, they brought back Shariah law, and when this president came to power, he reinstituted public stonings, as a "religious principle," against women.

As of this writing, President Ahmadinejad is on his way to address the United Nations in New York. There will be heavy press coverage. Will any reporter ask him about the stoning of women in his country—and the particular case of Malak Ghorbany? And while former "moderate" Iranian president Mohammad Khatami has been in the United States—lecturing at Harvard, among other prestigious venues—I know of no reporter who has asked him to discourse on the stoning of women under his successor.

Mazahery, who was recently invited by students and faculty to respond to Khatami at Harvard, has written and circulated an online petition, "Save Malak Ghorbany From Death by Public Stoning," addressed to Kofi Annan; the U.N.'s commissioner of human rights; and Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran; as well as to the head of its judiciary, Ayatollah Mahmoud Shahroudi.

So far, there have been more than 11,000 signatories—from around the world, including this country, China, and most tellingly, Iran. For Iranians to sign took much courage. As Ali Afshari and Akbar Atri—founding members of Iranian Students for Democracy and Human Rights—revealed in the September 2–3 Wall Street Journal:

"Satellite dishes are being collected to cut off public access to the . . . news of the global community. Women's groups, labor organizations, and student groups are not permitted even the more peaceful acts of protest."

As a result, however, of growing international concern about Malak Ghorbany, partly from Mazahery's petition, the Islamic regime has stayed her execution until she gets a new trial. But as Mazahery points out, Iran has used this three-card-monte trick before. As she told World Net Daily: "It is quite possible the Islamic regime will schedule a rush sham trial and reissue the same sentence [and] even with a new trial, Ghorbany would still receive the same sentence or be sentenced to death by public hanging instead."

The pressure to save Malak Ghorbany must continue. The direct link to Malak's petition, where you can sign on, is petitiononline.com/Malak/petition.html. For related topics, and to link to videos of actual public stonings, click on savemalak.googlepages.com/home.

Keep in mind, Mazahery warns:,"There are no scheduled dates for such killings in Iran. A prisoner can be executed at any time with little or no notice at all. Needless to say, that makes matters that much more complicated and urgent in these types of cases."

I shall return to this ongoing story and to Mazahery, whose own personal story illuminates the barbarism of the rulers of Iran—where scores of student dissenters are in prison and, as Ali Afshari and Akbar Atri report, "the noose has been tightened around the neck of writers, journalists, and bloggers in the past few months."</div>

I have learned so much about communicating and although I have for a long time understood that anything can be transformed through communication, I have never been so public in my communications and I have to say that my sadness from what I thought was the weight of nasty public opinion in the form of gossip has turned to joy and happiness that I can say what is on my mind and be so blessedly received. So again, I say thank you. Thank you for being who you are. Thank you for taking me seriously and for still having a sense of humor at the same time. That’s why you guys Rock My World!!!
