Little Notes and Messages

what I saw in Waveland...

In this photo Arjay stands looking out where the bridge used to be. There are blocks along the coast where all that is left are foundations of the houses. The power of nature is absolutely awesome. I'm reminded how much of our culture attempts to subdue or dominate the natural elements. What would happen if we lived in their harmony?

Instead of piles of toxic trash we might be left with artifacts that are useless as tools or toys but could be reused as lanscape filler. If our materials were natural they would continue in the cycle. Instead we are polluting our land and our lives with substances that do us harm. We imagine we can keep them 'away' until a big wind comes and the sea rises, until the earth shakes or a plane crashes or we forget what that button there was for.

People down in the gulf seem entirely dedicated to rebuilding their lives. I support them and encourage that everything be done to make sure that the new infrastructure be more natural, more community-oriented, less toxic and more equitable for all.
