about me
Married, have 3 adult kids and a 12 yr old, 2 gorgeous cats, Burmese - Chaos and Mya & a husband ( Hmmm poor man seems to come after kids and cats:-)). He's OK, he has his golf I have Belly dance, I think I have the better deal:-)
From NZ, Lived in Indonesia for 11 yrs, now in Melbourne Aussie.
Have been dancing for nearly 3 years so am still a "newbie", but how I love it! ... Belly dance sings to my soul. I may be in my 50's but better to have finally found that which sings to my soul now than never to have not heard the call!
I love Solace Music and adore Jehan... can sure relate to that lovely lady ... I am an ordained priestess and sacred dance is very much a part of the old ways. Belly dance/sacred dance is so balancing and joyous truly stirs the soul memory! I also love Natacha Atlas and so many others, too many to list and i am always finding something new somewhere.
Costumes <sigh> I am fast becoming a costume junkie, love everything!

Contra Batta step
(blog entry)
I just realised what I have been taught as the contra batta other dancers refer to that step as lame duck, but one set of steps I have not seen a reference to is the saidi triplet. This is step back- R/L/R/L, then step touch to side moving forward...

It Has been ages
(blog entry)
Well it has been ages since I wrote anything. I have finished making a Toran style belt, and I am very pleased with it. Next thing to do is a bra top, ideas float around in my head, but I have yet to settle on what I want/like. So many bras I have...

Fringe Belt
(blog entry)
Well it is finished, looks OK, I have yet to take photos but will do so soon. Decided to crochet the top band, so that I can wear various belts over the top as accent pieces. My biggest problem with the fringe belt was getting the lengths correct,...

This is step back- R/L/R/L, then step touch to side moving forward R/L/R/L at the same time yours begin out to the side, move up to above head, back to out to the side, then down to the hips. Not sure if my description makes any sense.
I wonder if the contra batta has its origins in gypsy and or flamenco style dance, the name seems to point in that direction.

Wow! Attended a great workshop today. Thanks to Amanda of Charm Belly Dance. Mai'sah ( Raks Gothique) was fabulous - Zill queen extraordinaire!. This very zill challenged Belly Dancer actually did learn something Yay! The zills, hands, arms & feet are getting it altogether. Phew, I was wondering if I would ever "get It".
I could zill ( basics) standing still, and with a normal walk across a room, but dancing and zilling was definitely like the proverbial floundering fish out of water and one who didn't know the right fin from the left - Now I am beginning to swim - Dom, Dom, tekatek, Dom, tekatek, tek! I like the Chiftitelli, that's cool! Dom, tekatek, tekatek, dom, dom, teka!
Thanks Mai'sah.

Another thing is I would love a tattoo. But I am chicken. The thought of the "ouch" factor has so far stopped me. I am also not sure of what I want. I have to work on that. Probably an ankh with something curly whirly coming out from the sides, that is the part I have yet to settle on, then one must dig deep for the courage to go through with it!

My biggest problem with the fringe belt was getting the lengths correct, I thought I had them all correct but had to trim here and there when I finished. I think they must stretch when they hang down. Hope all the stretching is over, or I will be continually trimming:-)
Next project, a Toran style belt, so it will be spending time making lots of tassels.
