adventurer, social chameleon: I tend to "vibe into" the group I'm with
I prefer to be called "Richard", not "Rich", "Rick", "Ricky" or any other permutation of the name. Call me "Dick" and you'll have an irked queen on your ass. I'm called "motherrichard" because of my best friend, Alex. He and our friend William went to Europe for a month and I decided to take vacation in Paris. The three of us were in Paris for 5 days. During those 5 days, I basically "mothered" the two of them -- I translated the French for them (what I knew anyway). I fed them a couple of times. I coordinated how to get where and made sure they didn't miss their stops on the Metro. I even worried about them when I wasn't with them. So when Alex invited me to be an OrangeKid (my Los Angeles tribe), "motherrichard" was the name he gave me and I liked it, so it's mine. It's appropriate too: I do love caring for the people in my life... more pics: www.flickr.com/photos/motherrichard/sets

want to grow your network?
There are times in my life where I feel I'm stagnating -- standing still while everyone else around me seems to know what the hell is going on and is making something happen.

And there are times when I learn about myself and grow as a person -- by pushing myself past my (some silly) personal boundaries. Burning Man 2007 was one of the latter. I have to thank my family -- specifically my campmates -- who had as much fun with me "gaying myself up" as I did. Yes, it was really a costum... read more

"There's nothing like the a 22 hour cumulative and camping and Burningman to get to know somebody."
Yeah, I needed coffee this morning (or was it just that I love Richard soooo much!). What I meant to say was there's nothing like a 22 hour cumulative car ride and week camping at burningman to get to know somebody. Why does Tribe not let you edit what you have written? September 20, 2006
I just had a CRASH COURSE in adoring richard. There's nothing like the a 22 hour cumulative and camping and Burningman to get to know somebody. J'ADORE RICHARD.
I knew he was family when we agreed that listening to Prince's "Purple Rain" album over and over was a GREAT thing to do on a 10 hour car ride! September 19, 2005
He's like Amachi or something.
There is some sort of crazy wild unstoppable force of love and giving that gushes pure out of his soul and into the world around him--and you would have to be some sort of mould growth to be unaffected by it. He is the tip of an iceberg and what lies underneath-- it's something real and true. it's something that if you allow yourself to glimpse, you'll be forever changed for the better. I'm sorry to see he's going to be traveling the world because for my own selfish reasons, I'm going to miss the hell out of him. But I know that when he comes back it will be a sight to see. How can someone already great metamorphisize into something even greater? Well--one of the joys in life is knowing him--because we get to see. August 6, 2005
Mother Richard's powers of NICENESS are almost super human. If you need anything, he'll be there for you. He truly is the mother hen, running around trying to take care of everyone. Pak Awwwwk!
Richard's, sweet and mild mannered but wickedly funny all rolled into one. He seems to miraculously always have a smile on his face and he's always good for a hug, a cuddle, or a few laughs. I'm so glad that I met him and that I get to be his friend. :)
