My Testimonials

September 23, 2008
I have nothing but the utmost respect for this amazing fellow. Calm, funny, witty, creative, sexy, spiritual, amazingly deep, seasoned, down to earth and incredibly supportive--I truly have no idea why he's still single. (C'mon, Portland ladies--what the hell are you waiting for??!?) Al. I'm blessed to have met you. I only wish it had been before you left LA. I'd like to start a campaign to get you back here! Meanwhile, I am happy and proud to be your campmate and friend.

When I met Al, he was wearing a bear-skin cloat and antlers; he was strange and wonderful. The next time I met him, he was wearing a black shirt and jeans...and he was EVEN MORE strange and wonderful. Al Polito is a rare mix of laughter, spirituality, spontaneous fun and adventure! XO, Janea

The man, the myth, the legend. An engima wrapped in spicy secret sauce is the best way to describe Al Polito. A folk rocker with a mystic edge and aura. To meet Al, is to be charmed, to converse with him is discover that the well runs mysteriously deep and takes some unexpected turns. If I could tell Al anything it would be, "Thank you, for being weird." And I mean that as the highest form of flattery.

Also, the new songs are sounding awesome.

about me
I'm a dreamer in metaphors. I'm a songwriter, guitarist, I'm a leader, a lover, a fighter (for things I stand for), a man, a boy. I'm a friend, a coach, and at times a vulnerable ball of goo. I am open-minded. I'm looking for a way to contribute to you. Yeah you.

I perform concerts in people's homes. You invite your friends, set out some food, and I'll entertain and inspire you with fun, interesting, memorable songs. I'lll provoke your thoughts with my lyrics and commentary. I'll pour my life into every song, and you'll be energized.

I am a professional writer. You name it, and I can probably write it, and fast too. See thewritething.biz

I run a bootcamp for artists, called Jumpstart Your Art. See jumpstartyourart.net.

I'm a personal coach and spiritual director. I can help you with goal setting, or releasing goals!

An editorial recently appeared on CNN.com. (www.cnn.com/2009/US/05/1...y/index.html) (Thanks Maple.) In it, Rev. Robert Barron argues for celibacy for priests, stating that the priest's fascination with "another world" sets him apart and makes him valuable to the community in a special way. I think he's full of it.

I wrote about in my blog (thelifeluster.blogspot.com/).

Briefly:

The fascination Rev. Barron speaks about is a dangerous thing, insofar as ... read more

I read a sobering article a few days ago, linked below.
www.oregonlive.com/business...nd_a.html

The title, of this article from the Oregonian:

BusinessWeek ranks Portland at top of "unhappiest cities" list

The indicators, according to the Oregonian, are divorce, suicide, depression (gauged by sales of antidepressants), crime, unemployment and clouds.

When I read the headline, I wondered which Portland they're talking about. Portlan... read more

I've posted an article below. I find humor in it. But first, my commentary on it. Scroll down for the article.

According to 95-year old Jesuit theologian, Fr. Roberto Busa, "When you look at vices from the point of view of the difficulties they create you find that men experiment in a different way from women."

His thoughts were expanded upon by Msgr. Wojciech Giertych, theologian to the papal household (every household should have its own theologian, don't you think?), who said the mos... read more

I was struck by a powerful thought a few weeks ago that has managed to diffuse any sentimentality about Valentine's Day for me this year. Valentine's Day, for many people, is SAD (Singles Awareness Day).

The marketing machine plows through our collective consciousness and unconsciousness, creating feelings of inadequacy for many of us who have no sweetheart, no flowers or candy or romantic dates. But this is hardly news for those of us who are unattached. If you've spent as many of your ye... read more
