Downtown Los Angeles
October 14, 2006

Pirates, Vikings, Wenches [and the like]:

Space Island will set anchor on one of the three major axes at LA's Decom 2006!
We'll be bringing out the Boom on turbo sound for the nastiest underground Breaks ...
Busting out eye-melting dance performances by the sexiest freaks out West ...
Blowing, roaring and cracking fire from the Space Dragon's mouth and the Space Wench's
cannons ...

However, to complete this rather extravagant mission, massive amounts of propane are required.
Space Island is looking for your support [financially] in terms of acquiring propane for this event.

***Our Needs***

(4) 60 gallon propane tanks (that's 4 full tanks). Damn... that is a lot of FIRE ...
but as we all know all Space Pirates and Vikings need fire ...

Any amount of funds that you generously wish to contribute will help and be greatly appreciated!
Your donations for SI's Propane Relief Fund can be sent to Pay Pal at paypal.com care of raphael_vasquez@hotmail.com

Arrr!!!!! And thanks

______________________________
A FREAKY FRIDAY "SPECIAL EVENT"
******************************************
Its time to get super freaky as we turn the level up quite a few notches with the SF debut preformance of one of the hottest acts in electronic music today JAHCOOZI direct from Berlin, joining them will be THE TAPE also from Berlin who is currently being compared to DJ Shadow and Prefuse 73. This event will be taking place in the 2 new areas of 1015 called Fountain. Capacity is limited to 700 people, so get your presales early. There will be another seperate event that night at 1015 so look for the sign to make sure you go to the right entrance.

Check out Jahcoozi playing at Love Parade Berlin an-ten-nae.net/jahcoozi.html - There is also a link to get tickets here.

JAHCOOZI - It is hard to define and impossible to pigeonhole the sound of Jahcoozi. Maybe a bit like the (brit-srilankan-israeli-westgerman) trio Jahcoozi themselves. Pure Breed Mongrel is a mish-mash of genres but despite this immense style crossover, Jahcoozi have managed to create their very own sound and house it within a homogenic album which is full of surprises. A pure breed of mongrel. Mongrel music, made by mongrel people for a mongrel society. Think Aphex Twin meets MIA, and so much more. www.myspace.com/jahcoozi

PS You can sign up on the 1015.com website to get in for only $10 B$ 11pm - make sure you click on the event calendar and choose the 13th.

After over a year of procrastinating, I have a new mix in the can.
It's called "Money $hot", and it's just that- straight-to-the-point, dirty, peak-time party-rockers:
crack house, electrobass, throbbing breaks, ghettoglitch and sexed-up techno......
100% live mix that will *not* respect you in the morning. ;)
Hope you like it.......

This is a yousendit file, but I'll have a permanent link on my page in a day or two:

Goddamn.

So yeah, Pink Saturday........

There might not be any topping that this summer. Except that whole "burningman thing", but that doesn't count. I don't remember my set, but I heard it was decent. But I know everyone else rocked the fuck out of those revelers.THANK YOU Danny, LJ, Jonny, Laura, Adam O., and Sander.........everytime we walked by one another, Boreta and I shook our heads with amused pride. Magnetic/Nexus + Pink Saturday = Legendary Crunch!!

Oh, and I do remember Pink Lightning making a brief but triumphant comeback. Word.

Too bad the Downlow was a bust (but that's the nature of the renegade beast)..........however, stoked as I was to have been asked to play, I should have learned my lesson after last year's Pink Sat. experience-- heading to another party after Pink Saturday is a little like a jog around the park after running a triathalon.

One last thing- can I just say how glad it makes my heart that you ravers aren't so damn scared of HOUSE MUSIC these days? I am glad I stuck to my guns on that one.

We wanna see pics from the weekend, so post em or link to em if ya got em..................

In late 2003, Me'shell NdegeOcello released a phenomenal record called 'Comfort Woman'. It got great press, but was promoted very poorly and in no time, seemed to disappear, without even a cult or word-of-mouth following.

That's really a shame......For whatever reason, it's back in heavy rotation in my house and car, and I find I'm as impressed by the overall quality of the record today as I was when it first came out, and it's rare that I say that about anything these days. The sound is a deep, smoky, sexy-as-hell blend of dub, soul, reggae, psychedelic rock, and downtempo electronic grooves (Think: Prince, Sade, Marvin Gaye, Curtis Mayfield, Sly & Robbie, Jimi Hendrix, etc.). It's also one of the best mastered recordings I've ever heard, and gets richer with every listen. Want an album you can get happily lost in every time? This is perfect. Everything about the album- the production, the musicianship, the vibe, the sequencing...hell, even the artwork- is flawless.

I dunno what compelled me to go out of my way to plug a 3 year old record, but..........I guess it's just really *that* good.......definitely an overlooked classic. Buy, download, or track down this one at all costs.

Always amazed how much a trip home grounds me out and serves a good reminder of how amazing my family was/is, especially when so many people in my life came from such shitty backrounds.

I've learned or re-learned a lot this week, including the fact that my 88-year old grandfather can down a 32 oz. Miller High Life even faster than me........but mostly that I miss my family more than I realized. A few will be gone very soon, and I ought to take full advantage of that short time as much as I can, while I still have the chance to.

I owe so much more than I thought to where I'm from......

Thicker than water, indeed.
