You've *got* to be kidding...
I would like to say I was surprised by McCain's choice of running mate for the election, but I am not. Clearly the GOP exerted some pressure to have McCain choose someone whom they thought could sway voters from the middle/undecided camp. The swaying of votes is what they're supposed to be trying to achieve. But to think that women would be swayed by excitement over "another woman in the race" that they'd vote on a McCain/Palin ticket since they didn't get an Obama/Clinton ticket? YOU'VE GOT TO BE KIDDING.It could work if you were voting based on the type of reproductive parts someone had - both Hillary and Palin both have ovaries, I'll grant you that. But the similarities stop there. I'm a long time feminist, but there's only one instance where I'd vote for Palin - on a cold day. In hell. She's pro life. She's a member of a *very* conservative religion - Assemblies of God (I oughta know, I was raised in an AofG church, and ran away from it kicking and screaming, as early as I could). Am I supposed to like her because she decided to carry to term a baby with down's syndrome and report to work 3 days later? Uh, nope, not this girl. Oh, and she's also against same-sex marriage. At this point, I'm wondering what it is I do have in common with her other than aforementioned ovaries?!?
If I can paraphrase one of my favorite Americans in a speech he made 45 years ago, I want to live in a nation where people will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character. I'd also like to live in a nation where political candidates are chosen on the quality of their qualifications, and not the type of reproductive parts they behold. Alas, we are not there yet. Shame on you, GOP, shame on you.
I have one last item to add - whomever you vote for - VOTE IN NOVEMBER. It's your right, and I dare say, your obligation.
I'm voting for Obama -as I believe he's the best PERSON for the job.
