Talented couple seek mature community residency in sf/east bay

<div>Hey friends!

Tserefina and I are seeking a new residence
after riding the dramatic merry-go-round of Langton through its rough build out.
The time has come for us to be surrounded by a like minded community
into crafting/building art, yoga, dance, circus, and production.

Tserefina is a stiltdancer and tissue aerialist from Vancouver, prefers to eat veg,
and like many Canadians spends a lot of time at home.

MT is a stiltdancer and juggler who spends long hours as theater technician (carp, electrics, rigging)
and frequently has creative projects on the side burner during periods of touring and production.

Our ideal scenario would have natural afternoon sun in our room,
an area for a small woodworking shop, space to rig aerial for tissue,
a rooftop garden to tend lovingly, and mature co-habitants
who are motivated to clean after themselves in projects as well as domestic ways.
We would prefer a density of 6 people or less.

We'd love to stay in the city, and will happily take a space without all above ammenities (ie rigging height ceilings)
if located near the gym we coach at in the Inner Sunset/Haight/Inner Richmond area so we can train.
A single garage, even if an additional rent fee, would do just fine for my woodshop.

On the other hand, we are also open to the possibility of an amazing community in the East Bay with the right mix of people.

Many thanks for any leads in making our dream abode manifest!

That's right, another year has passed since our last raucous installment of the Sag Cabaret! This year we celebrate both Mike Templeton and Colin Blackshear with a soiree to tantalize your senses.
Langton wants to borrow your scaffolding!

<div>Hey there,

I'm involved in the build out of a new arts space in SOMA, Langton Labs / Machine.
Our mainspace has a thin, nonstructural roof with an opening between levels we'd like to close before the winter progresses...
but it's 20' in the air!

That's where the scaffold comes in.
We'd like to store your scaffolding for the next few months, using it to close the roof, patch the walls and repaint.
We're offering beer on visitation periods, a home cooked meal or two, and the undying love of True Prophet.

We can arrange transport via pickup truck, or cover your gas if you've got a bigger truck to schlep them in one shot.
We promise to use the mainspace to the betterment of the arts community of soma over the next half decade at least, and you can say you helped make it happen by loaning us your scaffold... and you can say it here without the mist of San Francisco dropping on you like dew! </div>

The How Weird Street Fair needs your help!

www.howweird.org/

On Febuary 8th, the How Weird Street Fair, a 10,000 person festival celebrating the art and culture of San Francisco, appeared before ISCOTT to renew its permit for this year's fair to be held on May 6, 2007. This request was rejected despite the 100% safety record of the event. The reasons cited were neighborhood opposition, and a small group of neighbors have registered complaints about the fair. We are committed to reaching out to this small group of neighbors, but we also are deeply committed to this fair and the vast majority of local neighbors who support it.

There is an appeal hearing at 10am on Thursday Feb. 22, 2007 at 1 South Van Ness Avenue on the 7th Floor. The public is invited to attend.

Here's how you can help:

Attached is a draft letter that you can use to write the Department of Parking and Traffic, the appeal body for the How Weird Street Fair permit. Please sign, date, and email or fax the letter to Cindy Shamban no later than Tuesday, February 20th. The contact info is...

RE: SUPPORT FOR THE 8TH ANNUAL HOW WEIRD STREET FAIRE

It has come to my attention that the How Weird Street Faire (scheduled for May 6, 2007) is in critical danger of being cancelled due to the denial of its street permits by ISCOTT, in spite of a perfect safety record. As the appeal authority for ISCOTT, I urge you to reconsider this decision and issue the permit for this fair.

The How Weird Street Faire is a unique cultural event that makes San Francisco a special place to live and work. 10,000 San Franciscans attend and support this event that celebrates the city?s avant guard music, fashion and ideals. The How Weird Street Faire contributes to San Francisco as a benefit for the non-profit World Peace Through Technology Organization, which inspires peace through benevolent uses of technology; and the Arc, a local non-profit that provides jobs and training to disabled people. I urge you to recognize the critical value of this event to citywide residents, the fair's non-profit beneficiaries, the arts community, and an overwhelming number of local neighbors who strongly support the fair, by issuing its requested permits.

Sincerely,

<div> The whole world is a circus if you know how to look at it. The way the sun goes down when you're tired, comes up when you want to be on the move. That's real magic. The way a leaf grows. The song of the birds. The way the desert looks at night, with the moon embracing it. Oh, my boy, that's... that's circus enough for anyone. Every time you watch a rainbow and feel wonder in your heart. Every time you pick up a handful of dust, and see not the dust, but a mystery, a marvel, there in your hand. Every time you stop and think, "I'm alive, and being alive is fantastic!" Every time such a thing happens, you're part of the Circus ....
Thank you, Dr. Lao.

Circo Romani Review from San Jose Metro

<a href="http://people.tribe.net/mt/blog/b8c22b5e-15d8-4182-af92-964c205303dc"> <img class=" picThumb" src="http://images.tribe.net/tribe/upload/photo/479/5b6/4795b60a-8565-45ae-b57b-88007d156ff0.thumb" width="52" height="78" alt="" />
    </a>
<div>There's more than this in the article, where the writer digs on larger scale circuses Ringling and Cirque, and even mentions the Jim Rose Circus Sideshow... I think this one even tops the Pee Wee's Playhose reference of the SF Weekly review!

"I would have entirely missed Circo Romani the Sunday before last had I not heard its musical director, Zhenya Rock, performing earlier in the day on John Sandidge's live music show, Please Stand By (KPIG-FM 107.5). The founding guitarist/vocalist of the Red Elvises, Zhenya is based in Austin these days and touring with one lone drummer under the name Zeegrass.

I'd always been a sucker for the Red Elvises, ever since they made their film debut in the cult favorite, Six String Samurai. So hearing Zhenya playing what sounded suspiciously like demented art rock on his live-looped guitar and obligatory balalaika (a traditional Russian stringed instrument, though not the giant red one that the Elvises used to tour with), I couldn't resist a trip up to Felton to see them. The promise of a Gypsy circus complete with dancing bear sealed the deal.

The evening did not disappoint. The opposite of the high-tech entertainments to which we've all become so accustomed, the half-dozen members of Circo Romani got more mileage out of basic juggling, clowning and acrobatics than they had any right to, not least because of a wide-eyed exuberance that gave any weaknesses a folksy charm. Particularly impressive were the acrobatics and Stan Laurel-like theatrics of Mike Templeton as the Gadjo clown. It turns out that anyone who isn't a Gypsy is known as a Gadjo, although, as ringmaster Nick da-Creature points out, we can all have fun together regardless.

And that's just what happened by show's end as the troupe busted open a case of bear and invited the audience to dance with them. It takes a truly cold heart to turn down the opportunity to dance with a bear (OK, not a real bear, but he was on rollerskates). It's the kind of thing you can tell the grandkids about, that is, if you end up having grandkids and don't particularly care what they think about you.

... They might not be quite as traditional as those wandering bands of vaguely unsavory characters who would set up camp on the outskirts of town and stir up childhood dreams of running away with the circus, but they're the next best thing."

...And that was a case of beer, not bear...

why would I respond to a chain blog game?

										<div>Bwahahaha!

The annual tribe name reversal caught some good fish!

Buskers complained ( as should be expected ),
Cabaret almost lost members due to "must see TV" as a title,
and "fidgeters anonymous" baffled Contact Juggling

But the catch of the day, as it usually is,
was from the ULC Ministers tribe I moderate.

I was ordained back in the days of the postcard (...oooooooh!)
before the church went online and still sent monthly newsletters
printed in the basement of the church.

So it was one of the tribes I started way back in the day,
to see who showed up and meet other ministers.
It's kinda quiet, but when a question pertaining to utlization of one's ordination it lights up...
and April 1st.

Every year, it's reliably the best knee jerk reaction for someone to flip out
when I change the name to "Minions of Satan"

for your pleasure...
