Texas? I mean....really? Really? Texas? People try to leave Texas, not go settle down there. I mean....shit. Texas man. Pretty scary. |

Economics makes you do things you wouldn't have thought you wanted to do before...
The fact of the matter is that California is too expensive for me. I'm not very interested in New York for the same reason. Wisconsin didn't really work the last time I was there, and the pacific northwest is a little detrimental to my cause. I have no intention of staying permanently there, but by limiting my expenses and working for a decent wage out there I might just be able to save money. The eventual goal is to move to Denmark, but not while broke and not without a plan. The opportunity in Austin severely outweighs many of the negatives. Honestly, I have never had any issues in Austin, and there's a good support group for me out there to get my head in order. All I know is that on this current trajectory that I've been following, San Fran is not a healthy place for me.

Austin TX is amazing!!!! I love it and still miss it in comparison to San Francisco. I love San Francisco now and wouldn't move back but when I first moved here it took me a year and a half to get over wanting to move back to Austin. Austin can be a great place to relax and be around young friendly people. Austin people are way friendlier than Californians and it can be a lot cheaper. Austin has a very strong identity and their are plenty of places to go hang out at all hours of the night. I would stay up all night there all the time!!!
....but...it is Texas so you can't really leave town. You have to pretty much stay in Austin. There is a couple of pretty places to check out in the state but not much. California is definetly the state to live in if you like the whole weekend getaway sort of thing : ) |

Word...
Aside from having some nice friends in Dallas/FT Worth, I really have no intention on hanging out anywhere else in Texas. If I want a weekend getaway, I'll just fly somewhere inside the country since I will be centrally located to play anywhere inside the US without any major issues. Sure, I know the state is considered backwards, but the people in Austin don't really represent Texas that much, and you all forget that I've been coming there since 04. I will live in California again when I can afford to and don't feel the need to travel as much, which is starting to happen, but there's still a few countries on my list, plus I added one to the list last night.... I'm feeling the call to India, not to play music like my normal motivations, but nonetheless I have a very very good reason to go. :)

Hey Moobz. ;) Texas definitely wouldn't be my first choice in a place to live but it does have it's advantages. You know I actually live in Fort Worth but as what has already been said Austin is it's own little place. Nothing like the rest of Texas. A liberal city with tons of outdoor activities, arts, and music. Not to mention you will have super nice weather like 90% of the time. The cost of living is very affordable. You can get a lot more for your money than in most other cities in the Country. If you are looking to move somewhere to save some money then ATX would be an ideal place. One of the reasons I stay in Texas other than keeping my son close to family would be the cost of living. Live cheap and still have the means to travel and see the world,Country,State or whatever..
I would focus or meditate on the personal issues you are having. The answers will come within. Life style changes can be scary but so beneficial. Brian and i have went through some major lifestyle changes in 2008. It was a bumpy road but we got through it and life is much more balanced now. If you need to talk or whatever hit me up. Hope all is well and come and visit us sometime. :) |

Greg,
Austin is pretty bad ass, I mean it's motto is "keep Austin weird." I think you'll do well there. If you decide to spend some time there, I'll introduce you to some pretty cool folks. Cheers, -johnny from KC |

I know how you feel. I can never make up my mind where I want to live. Every time I think I am ready to settle down I freak out and want to move somewhere else. Looks like SF has me again for now though. I just need to control my urges to run off to Portland/New York/Santa Fe/Canada/etc/etc/etc.

Austin.
Austin kicks ass, being a native austin (being born there, not raised, but I still love the place). Good people great times, and it's not like the rest of Texas, it's one of the best cities in the USA without a doubt.
And when are you playing in Philly? Being that I'm on the eastcoast now i'm more than down for a drive for a good psy show. |
