Petition to protect Mastectomy Patients

<div> As a woman who watched my cousin go through this, I find this to be
an important petition to sign. I've already gone to snopes and
verified this bill - its legit.
All we need is a few seconds from you.
Thanks,
Megan
~~

From a nurse:

I'll never forget the look in my patients eyes when I had to tell them
they had to go home with the drains, new exercises and no breast.
I remember begging the Doctors to keep these women in
the hospital longer, only to hear that they would, but their hands
were tied by the insurance companies.

So there I sat with my patients, giving them the instructions they
needed to take care of themselves, knowing full well they didn't grasp
half of what I was saying, because the glazed, hopeless, frightened
look spoke louder than the quiet 'Thank You they muttered.

A mastectomy is when a woman's breast is removed in order to
remove cancerous breast cells/tissue. If you know anyone who has had a
Mastectomy, you may know that there is a lot of discomfort and pain
afterwards. Insurance companies are trying to make mastectomies an
outpatient procedure.

Let's give women the chance to recover properly in the hospital for 2
days after surgery. It takes 2 seconds to do this and is very
important .. Please take the
time and do it really quick!

Please send this to everyone in your address book. If there was ever
a time when our voices and choices should be heard, this is one of
those times.

There's a bill called the Breast Cancer Patient Protection Act which
will require Insurance Companies to cover a minimum 48-hour hospital
stay for patients undergoing a mastectomy. It's about eliminating the
'drive-through mastectomy' where women are forced to go home just a
few hours after surgery, against the wishes of their doctor, still
groggy from anesthesia and sometimes with drainage tubes still
attached.

Lifetime Television has put this bill on their Web page with a
petition drive to show your support. Last year over half the House signed on.

PLEASE!! Sign the petition by clicking on the Web site below. You need
not give more than your name and zip code number.

Evil Breaks presents:
DIRTY
Saturday, December 1st, 2007

It's been a long time since we've had Uberzone play at one of our shows (Dec. '05), and it's been even longer since Uberzone has released a full-length album (2001). And during the past few years, there have been quite a few of us waiting very impatiently for another album. 6 years later, Ideology has been released, and we are finally getting some new music out of Q, and let me tell you, it was worth the wait!!!

Evil Breaks does it right once again with Uberzone playing LIVE along with Davey Dave at what is San Francisco's CD release party for the long awaited new album from Uberzone. We'll also be giving away a few of the new cd's as well as a bunch of other freebies. Check back here later, or sign up for our mailing list to get all the info on that.

If that isn't enough, we also have an amazing producer coming out from the East Coast to do a little live set for us (you are not ready for this), along with the Ambient Mafia in the back room, Viberation doing visuals, and the E.B. dj's owning the main room like they tend to do. I don't know about you, but it sounds like fun to me.......

Uberzone LIVE with Davey Dave
(Nitrus / City of Angels / Astralwerks / TCR / L.A.)
SF Ideology Album release party

His early singles, "Botz" and "The Freaks", released on taste-maker indie dance label City of Angels, were critically acclaimed club tracks that established Q as one of the leading American producers of breakbeat music. These singles were charted consistently by DJs like Florida's DJ Icey and the UK's Adam Freeland, among others. His remixes of Sarah McLachlan, The Crystal Method and BT also established him as one of the biggest names in the American dance scene. Spin Magazine named Uberzone as one of the six producers to create "the biggest beats ever." Q does have Faith in the Future. "Sometime during my life I turned from a pessimist into an optimist. Faith in the Future ties into technology, electronic music and my lasting desire to live in the Jetson Age." Perhaps that's why Uberzone's debut album, "Faith in the Future" has a feeling to it unlike any other electronic album. It recalls influences from quirky sci-fantasy film soundtracks to "Planet Rock" to dream-pop to the energetic, future breaks that Uberzone has created in ways no one else can approach.

J.Hazen
(Sound of Habib / Virus B-23 / System Rec / NY)

For quite a few years now this guy has been producing the wickedest beats, but would never perform. After a bunch of badgering, some good intentioned insults, and a few 3rd party threats, we're finally able to bring out what I consider to be, one of the most talented producers in the U.S. Although he's just recently had his 1st couple of official releases, his tracks have been rockin parties around the world for years. And to top it off, he's going to be performing a live set for us!!

Check out a mix from J.Hazen. Recorded Live on Halloween, this set is being dubbed the "Zombie Prom" mix. This one's nice and bouncy.....YEEEAAAH!!!!

<div>Reposted with better/more information (thanks Jenny and Sean!!)

I don't know how many of you know Otto - I seriously think EVERYone knows Otto - he's a HUGE black guy with long black dreds that has thrown numerous charity events and large live music events in the city. (ie: He and Dae Han organized the infamous Pirate Summer Camp along with the recurring Snow Camp – events that benefited youth-at-risk charities.)
SO
Just found out he has cancer - they thought it was appendicitus - he found out last Friday its a malignant tumor and he's going under the knife this morning.
The cost of the surgery is $30,000 – it is not covered by his insurance.
SO
A few friends have organized a fundraiser - Sunday October 21st at Shine, 4pm
If you have nothing better to do, come dance and shake a leg like Otto'd want us to, and drop a small donation for the cause.
If you do have something better to do but can swing by for a cuppa, please come do so and drop a bit of cash for the cause.

if you want to help but can't make it on Sunday you can contribute to his fund two different ways....

(our good friend Lee is keeping track of all the monies going to Otto)

This could happen to any of us. Please come support.

Thanks for your help!!

It's been a few months since Evil Breaks has done a bigger party, and we figured we'd come back with something HUGE!!! We can't wait to see what these guys sound like on DNA's amazing sound system. Along with the amazing local support, we've got Visuals by Viberation and the Lawgiverz doin a special mid-tempo set upstairs - I really don't think you're going to want to miss any of this.

LAWGIVERZ (Trigger/Botchit) - UK

Lawgiverz, a.k.a. R-Kidz and Noize, have been dropping audio bombs for the last five years on Botchit &amp; Scarper, Trigger Recordings and more. Lawgiverz have produced, programmed and remixed with a bizarre selection of artists such as Jeff Beck, Dave Stewart and The Human League. They would like you to know that none of this really matters. Just that if you find yourself in front of the Trigger sound system or at DNA during their laptop and turntable set, prepare to be destroyed with a helping of alien love in the Electrobreaks style.

FINE CUT BODIES (Chi Recordings/Record Records) - Budapest, Hungary

Even though the name Fine Cut Bodies implies more than one person, behind the FCB letters is only one man, Kevin aka Attila Fodor. His musical tastes are extremely broad which is reflected in the musical preferences of *Chi Recordings*, the label he co-founded in 2000. One of the most important taste-maker DJs in Hungary, he has been one of the key DJs/promoters that built up the huge breaks scene in Hungary and he is now starting to build up the world class underground minimal and tech-house scene in Budapest.

As a DJ, Kevin's taste is determined more by his musical attitude than by any specific genre: he looks for music that's experimental but not selfish, interesting but not unlistenable. As a producer, he has released tracks in many genres and is always looking for new sonic adventures. Kevin's tracks have been licensed for numerous compilations and he has collaborated with and remixed for some of the hottest names in electronic music.

<div>Hi friends and neighbors . . .
So, while I was moving, I realized that two items I thought were going to turn up (hoping they were buried in my room) did NOT turn up.
If you have seen or possibly *have* either of the items described below and can't remember where they came from but know they aren't yours, please please PLEASE pm me so we can arrange a ransom. (what, I'm realistic!)

Missing Item # 1:
WHAT: Prescription eyeglasses!!
DESCRIPTION: dark pink/dark fuscia and bright white titanium frames. I believe the brand is La Font but I'm only 50% on this.
Prescription is pretty strong - if you don't wear glasses they'll probly make your eyes cross.
(heh heh - hey, cut the wise cracks! . .)
LAST SEEN: Some time over the spring, on or around May 1st - they were in a black and white, hardened leather, rectangular eyeglass case, could have possibly fallen out of my bag into someone's car . . .

Missing Item #2:
WHAT: pink castro-style hat that has a darker pink Playboy bunny pin at the top corner of the crown.
LAST SEEN:: NO IDEA. Sometime this summer because we bought it on our way back from 4th of July. If you have seen, or have this hat, please let me know.

Thanks everyone - I know everyone's moving and shakin right now, but I think its the perfect opportunity to take a lookaround your place and see if you have random shtuffy-shtuff lying around. I've been doing it for the past two weeks and I've got several items that will be delivered back to their original owners in short order.

Thanks for reaading! And for looking . . .</div>

    </a>
										<div>LoL
No, NOT jobs that are weird, stinky and otherwise shunned.
LoL
Well, not unless they pay really well.
I have a couple of major projects coming up and I want to start saving money, like TURBO stylee, so I'm trying to drum up some business.
Unfortunately I also work during the day so it would have to be done at night or on the weekends.

Whaddya say peeps - got any dirty (not including cleaning your bathroom) jobs that need to get done around the house - any kind of tedious organization that you just want to get over with and can't do without help?

Things I'm good at:
- organizing difficult spaces (this includes major cleaning sweeps of the "pantry" and - my personal favorite - the garage)
- cleaning up the back yard, getting it ready for spring/summer barbeque season
- baby sitting
- housesitting
- working parties (bar, door, cashier, coatcheck, whuddevs)
- assisting in arduous tasks that shouldn't be done alone

Hopefully we'll just have a really great time and maybe I won't even charge you! . . . or even better you get to take the afternoon to do nothing while I do your dirty work, and you pay me! yay!

hit me back if you have any suggestions.

Thanks folks!</div>

<div>LIBBY GUILTY OF LYING IN C.I.A. LEAK CASE

By NEIL A. LEWIS
Published: March 7, 2007

WASHINGTON, March 6 — I. Lewis Libby Jr., the former chief of staff to Vice President Dick Cheney, was convicted on Tuesday of lying to a grand jury and to F.B.I. agents investigating the leak of the identity of a C.I.A. operative in the summer of 2003 amid a fierce public dispute over the war in Iraq.

Mr. Libby, 56, who once wielded great authority at the top levels of government, is the highest-ranking White House official to be convicted of a felony since the Iran-contra scandals of the 1980s.

The jury rejected Mr. Libby’s claims of memory lapses, convicting him of four felony counts, obstruction of justice, giving false statements to the Federal Bureau of Investigation and committing perjury twice before the grand jury. The 11-member jury acquitted Mr. Libby on an additional count of making false statements to the F.B.I.

As the verdict was read aloud by the jury forewoman after nearly 10 days of deliberations, Mr. Libby grimaced briefly before resuming his expressionless demeanor. His wife, Harriet Grant, sitting a few feet away in the spectator section, began shaking visibly and wept briefly before composing herself.

Dana Perino, the deputy White House press secretary, said President Bush watched the news of the verdict on television in the Oval Office. She said Mr. Bush respected the jury’s verdict but “was saddened for Scooter Libby and his family,” using Mr. Libby’s nickname.

Mr. Cheney had a similar reaction. “As I have said before, Scooter has served our nation tirelessly and with great distinction through many years of public service,” he said.

The verdict meant the end of a nearly four-year investigation into the leak of the identity of the Central Intelligence Agency officer, Valerie Wilson. The inquiry raised fundamental questions about the reasons for invading Iraq, exposed some of the unseen influence of Mr. Cheney’s office and changed the landscape of relations between journalists and official sources, as many of Washington’s prominent political reporters were forced to testify in a criminal trial.

Mr. Libby’s chief lawyer, Theodore V. Wells Jr., said he would file papers asking the judge to grant a new trial. If that fails, Mr. Wells told reporters, he will appeal the verdict to the federal appeals court. He said Mr. Libby was “totally innocent and that he did not do anything wrong.”

Mr. Libby, standing at his side, made no comment. Prosecutors had charged that Mr. Libby had lied when he swore that he had not discussed the identity of Ms. Wilson in the summer of 2003 with two reporters, Judith Miller, formerly of The New York Times, and Matthew Cooper, formerly of Time magazine.

The prosecution also said Mr. Libby concocted a story that he learned of Ms. Wilson’s identity in a conversation with Tim Russert of NBC News on July 10 or 11 in 2003 to hide the fact that he had already learned about her identity from several fellow administration officials.

One of the 11 jurors who spoke publicly after the verdict said that there was great sympathy for Mr. Libby in the jury room, but that the case presented by the prosecution was overwhelming.

Judge Reggie B. Walton, who presided over the four weeks of testimony and presentation of evidence, set sentencing for June 5. Under complicated sentencing guidelines that are no longer mandatory, Judge Walton has wide discretion in setting a prison term.

But lawyers not involved in the case who are experienced in the issue of sentencing calculated that under the guidelines, Mr. Libby might be sentenced to 20 to 27 months.

Judge Walton allowed Mr. Libby to remain free on bail. The defense’s plans to ask for a retrial and then appeal the verdict mean that it would be many months before Mr. Libby would be required to go to prison. It also would provide a window for Mr. Bush to pardon Mr. Libby, an issue about which the White House has been silent but one that quickly became a topic of speculation.

Senator Harry Reid of Nevada, the Democratic leader, issued a statement calling on Mr. Bush to promise that he would not “pardon Libby for his criminal conduct.”

Patrick J. Fitzgerald, the prosecutor, said that while gratified by the verdict, “it’s sad that we had a situation where a high-level official, a person who worked in the Office of Vice President, obstructed justice and lied under oath.”

In remarks to reporters outside the courthouse, Mr. Fitzgerald also addressed at length the criticism of his decision to prosecute Mr. Libby on charges of lying to investigators while not charging anybody with leaking Ms. Wilson’s name to reporters.

Ms. Wilson’s name first appeared in a column by Robert Novak on July 14, 2003, just days after The New York Times published an Op-Ed article by her husband, Joseph C. Wilson IV.

In his article, Mr. Wilson asserted that the Bush White House had willfully distorted intelligence about Iraq’s efforts to acquire uranium in Africa to bolster the case for going to war.

Testimony at the trial showed that Mr. Wilson’s criticisms had alarmed and angered Bush administration officials because they amounted to a direct attack on what had been the principal reason for invading Iraq: the claim that Saddam Hussein had an active program of developing unconventional weapons.

Critics said Ms. Wilson’s identity as a C.I.A. officer was leaked to punish her husband for his criticisms.

At the time Mr. Fitzgerald was named special prosecutor in the leak inquiry, investigators had already learned that Mr. Novak’s sources were Richard L. Armitage, the deputy secretary of state, and Karl Rove, the president’s chief political adviser.</div>
