Tamsen is a wonderful person. She's a connundrum; like a rock-em sock-em hippie robot... or something. She's muppet mayhem and master ninja of the obvious all rolled into one pixie package. She's... the embodiment of mixed metaphors, apparently. Above all she's a terrific friend and someone without whom my life would be incomplete. She's a perfect repository for your love-- you can be sure she'll return it in abundance!

There are over 850 million hungry people in this world; 300 million of them are children. Every year, nearly 10 million people die of hunger – most of them in situations we never hear about in the news. In fact, hunger kills more people each year than AIDS, malaria, and tuberculosis combined. www.wfp.org/english/ news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/africa/4776390.stm

hundreds of nerds of all ages, shapes, sizes and self-prescribed coolness levels gathered in moscone west this past weekend for comicon international's lil sister: wondercon. the great thing about it being smaller than comicon is that you can actually see the entire floor in one day and can usually make it to all the awesome (or disappointing panels) you want. seeing kevin smith is always a hightlight of cons. he usually does an hour and a half q&a with the attendees, so if you've ever seen "an evening with kevin smith", you can imagine how that is a very hilariously well spent 90 mins. on the disappointing end was frank miller. the interviewer was so in love with frank he would probably have rather just bent over and enjoyed a thorough ass fucking. rather than asking frank anything interesting, he just critiqued/analyzed frank’s work then asked if frank agreed with him or not. never holding a true conversation, he zipped past intriguing road signs to digressions and just kept firing off his “this is how i saw dark knight returns, is that how you intended it?” bullshit questions. but the truly bizarre moment is when frank got all excited about his upcoming batman and robin comic in which batman will be taking on al-qaeda, because as an american superhero, it’s his fucking job. did i miss the sarcasm in his voice or did he suddenly lose his taste for political satire? moving on, matt wagner rocked my world! i’ve hardly read any of his stuff but one of my best friends has idolized matt since way before me and him were dating back in high school. i’ve been hearing how fucking awesome matt is since i was 15 years old, seen my friend’s collection of grendel, mage and star wars comics swell, and witnessed him get a picture of his full back grendel tat get published in some dark horse comic he promptly bought 20 copies of. so when i finally met this man this past weekend, i was floored. humble, down to earth, funny and easy to talk to, he was nothing like the mega-god my friend had built him up to be. he was just a super cool guy that likes to draw, has a talent for writing and always makes time for his fans. he was so cool in fact that my boyfriend and i shelled out way to much money to buy our friend some original grendel art signed by matt. when we presented it to him, he didn’t stop staring at it for almost half an hour, a look of love that would make his girlfriend jealous fixed on his face. which brings me to my favorite part of cons, seeing my nerdy friends from high school and meeting new ones. these are the folks that got me reading comics, sat me down to a full day of the original trilogy, accepted my odd taste in sci-fi and anime, and waited in day long lines for each newly disappointing star wars re-release and prequel. i can’t thank them enough for being the best group of folks to nerd out with. and on a last note, why will i ever pay full price for a graphic novel again when i can get them for $5- ½ off cover price at a con?! well, toting over 20 of them back home on the plane was a pain in the ass…
what kind of bullshit is this? Anyone know of a better (less commercial, less myspace ripoff) social networking site out there I can move to?
