First off, let me say I am alive and well and living in san francisco. living, loving, learning, psyched to get burning!

I haven't been as present on line for a few reasons, not the least of which is tribe.net's relative stability.
But I do want to stay on touch so in case tribe crashes while I'm posting this, let me tell you how else we can connect online:

facebook : http://tinyurl.com/mycho-facebook
myspace : http://www.myspace.com/mycho
going.com : http://tinyurl.com/mycho-going

and....

the new http://www.mycho.com

A work in progress, it will soon be linked up to my podcasts, event calendar, pictures, and proper blogs, and email list, all available as an rss feed you can subscribe to with your iphone or even ipod or one of those fancy blog readers or aggregators.

But before i complete that, of course is burningman!!!

*** (official call playa booking - i know it's so late!)
I am still open to being booked on-playa! Hit me up, you know I like to rock it.
I will be strapped with mad plastic of Dubstep, Breaks, Latin House, and DnB
This will be the 1st time out of five years I'm not carrying my vinyl to the playa
*****

BRC :
I'm camping with SUPERYAY in FurnitureCar Village at 9 & D, but check out our project:

Some friends from the fringe and i have teamed up with a wicked L.A. crew to produce...

THE SQYSH FYSH!!!

A deepsea lentern fysh of a sound artcar. We'll be playing on it wednesday, thursday, and friday nights on the playa, as well as the famed critical tits after party. We'll be posting more about the all-star line up of base cadets soon!

But first : tonight!
Introducing : The Connosouir Collective - the most difficult to spell crew with the coolest pinky-contric secret handshake.
Tuesday at Ill Pirata on 16th and Utah in San Francisco, at the Connoisseur Collective's Converge party.

9-2, indoor/outdoor, $6-10 sliding donation.
The lineup is:

DJs : MOZAIC, MYCHO COCOA,
BOGL, TASO, SHOVEL, KOZEE
with MC CHRONIC G

(and speaking of chronic, they have a great outdoor patio where you are always welcome to get fresh air!)

And Friday : Playing with Neptune and Elf Machine with the Tantric Circus as an official Playa sendoff.
It will be way better than seeing Beck and Radiohead.

OH! And I almost forgot - Posh Spice totally looks like Falcor - maybe she is a luck dragon after all!!

So wow sorry to be so 'reader's digest' about all all these important things - thanks for checking in.
Let's get deeper next time.
Much love - see you in the promised land.

It feels like it's been a hot minute since I've played a SF club...

Just one reason I am psyched ot drop some dirty electro and breaks tonight at TRBL.

I play 11-12, followed by AUDIOVOID.
And Absurge rocking the opening slot, and THE MAN Tim Dietz closing out.

So even if you 'happen' top have other plans at some point in the evening, I hope party people come through - it's free and on your way.

TRBL : Free Friday night at Anu in downtown SF : I will be playing a dirrrrrrrrty eectro / breaks set - come pack it in - even if you go out to a really big party for late-night!

TRBL hits Anu again on Friday July 11th 2008 featuring a night of house, breaks, and electro with special guest:

***

Hey Dancefloor Creatures,
I will be joining the TRBL'd crew - those crazy electro-breakin' off shoots from the original Fringe Friday night the 11th at Anu.

This is a free monthly and I'm psyched to step up to the plate and rip the walls off of the club for a bit, and equally psyched to hear Linz aka AudioVoid aka LayerZ aka homeboy with mad talent rock some new tracks because this kid is a MONSTAH!

SO even if you got some latenight plans lines up for laterz, (and i'm not naming any names) or even if you don't want to drop a fistful of dollars on a friday, we be rockin it for free.

An honor to rock it with TRBL djs:

Lately I find myself
out gazing at stars
Hearing guitars
like someone in love

Sometimes the things I do astound me
Mostly whenever you're around me...

Lately I seem to walk
as though I have wings

like someone in love

"Our Deepest Fear" (a reminder, beautiful)

Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate.

Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.

It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us.
We ask ourselves, "Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?"

Actually, who are you not to be?!
You are a child of God.
Your playing small does not serve the world.
There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you.
We are all meant to shine, as children do.
We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us.

It's not just in some of us; it's in everyone.
And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same.
As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.

but i'm quite glad to be coming home to San Francisco tonight. And playing with False Profits tomorrow. (peep the listing if you like) I've been on the east side while our Earth has traveled half it's cycle around this our star, the cold part of the cycle.

yeah for real. i'm psyched to come home to the sf scene.
i'm getting on the plane at JFK straight from the production studio. straight to SFO. Picked up by my best friend and go straight to 1015. Get on stage downstairs at midnight, straight rocking old school and new school breaks. after this point i may stop all this 'straight' biznis and get well crooked with my dearest sf peeps.
yes friday's chinese new year at 1015, followed by saturday's 3rd annual icebreakers ball with the phat conductor (peep my listing for full lineup of these wonderful events) stuffed with a nourishing spread of after parties, at least one sweet birthday party (happy birthday jessica!) and with some sweet luck some sunrise sessions.
cocoa is psyched. cocoa missed san francisco.
and i can't wait to move back. i've been distant from the scene there.
and soon as i'm done with my 222 page manifesto of 'what i've learned in new york' i'll be ready to triumphantly move back to california.

or maybe i'll finish it later...
haha
see you at home!

Hey Tribe,
It's been a season. Or more. I've been in New York for over 4 months now. From the Bohemian San Francentric Mansion dweller you may know (and may even love) to a Brooklyn's breakbeat bedroom bomber. So for each of these 4 months I've been conspicuously absent from California, I have for you a free full mix to rock you until the creature comes back and hopefully longer.

"All Hallows Dubstep Mix"
http://mycho.com/music/next_level_dubstep_all_hallows_mix.mp3

My first mix in New York, inspired by new friends and new feelings. All new material mixed in a new style. Organic, mostly chill. Still danceable.

"Mychorythmic Breaks"
http://mycho.com/music/mychorythmic_breaks.mp3

This one is also a bedroom mix, but is my first one experimenting with three channels. It is more rocking, and combines some familiar breaks mixed in a new style (did I mention three channels?) While this is an ableton mix, it is mixed in one take, from the heart, using a real DJ Mixer.

"Fresh Start : Mycho Live at 12 Gallaxies : 1/1/08"
http://mycho.com/music/mycho_cocoa_fresh-start.mp3

Oh, this show was such a fresh start, a blessing of the new year. I was asked by Sunset / Fringe to provide the music at 3am on New Year's Day Morning to bridge a wonderful accousticy set from Blue Turtle Seduction to my electro-rocking brother BLVD. This is what it sounded like. I will be remastering it, as sound get a bit touchy in some places, but you may not be surprised, sometimes we get touchy as well as feely at this point after New Year's Eve in SF, am I right?

"Big Island Love : Mycho Live at the Palace in Hawai'i : 1/5/08
http://mycho.com/music/mycho_cocoa-live_at_the_palace-big_island_hawai'i.mp3

An honor and a pleasure to play at the Hawai'i Electronic Music festival ( http://www.bigislandlove.com ) this year. Clearly. And not just to escape the Brooklyn winter! This Saturday night I was playing the 'ambient lounge' room at the Palace in Hilo, and started and finished that way. But you dancers! We couldn't help but rock it out in the middle, funny story about that, Sprocket...
Aloha!!

So, enjoy, burn that shit, share, turn that shit up, play it again!
Send me some feedback, let me konw what you like and what you would like and what can be better if you like.

I've got some more work to do, but although I may be a bit stranger than many people you know, I will try not to be a stranger.
Aloha and meow for now.

NY, NY

It's incredible this transition. The burn really prepared me for this. Coming into a new home, life, lifestyle, social scene, work environment, city, routine, housing scenario, relationships.

Smooth.

I live in New York now.

I do.

I am so grateful to everyone who has been making this transition not only possible, but pleasurable. Old friends like my bro Logan and certainly my amazing new friends, espcially Vanita and Gina. They way people open their hearts and their homes is inspiring, supporting, and beautiful. We all know life in the city can be really hard. Hard concrete, Hard Rock Café, schools of hard knocks, we know it. And for this reason people are soooooo giving, genuine, and communal. Fuck what you may have heard about New Yorkers, these people are the shit!!!

I've been staying with Gina in her sanctuary in Hell's Kitchen after hiding out in a hotel for a few days. Comfy comfy, helping each other out. She'll be travelling soon and I will have it to myself for a week, as and she returns I've lined up a spot on the 28th floor in a silver tower in faculty housing at NYU where I can set my studio up (as Kirsten mails the pieces to me, finanecd by my new job). Space to be creative. Tools to be creative.

Now if I only had some time.

Sons, New York really is the city that never sleeps. I mean yes, in San Francisco, my heart, we don't really sleep. But she, the City does, even if we're up meowing around all weekend. Here in New York it just goes, baby! Yeah, the sun sets but that makes it fun. I like sleep.

Get it while you can.

I feel blessed to be having the best year of my life, and now making this major move to NY. Trying hard to not take these things for granted, to be grateful for the blessings I am being bestowed. Peaceful, energized, in the moment, gleeful, open. And making a shitload of money. I gotta, rockstar lifesytle dug my debt deeeep, kids. Filling that whole up. It's funny, the deeper in debt I get, the higher cost of living the places I move to are. What's next, London?

Well anyways I need to decide if I can conceivably make it back for the acid totem campout in big sur on oct. 12th. I really want to and right now it looks possible. New York is piling up around me and I have work here to do. I've promised to not forget my life on the West (still the best!!!) Coast and I stay true to this. So much! So often. Hey waiter!

Can I have a grain of salt with that?

Well I have to go meet my friends at the piers for the boat party. Beat non stop. Keep this blog post byte-sized like sushi so you can read it. Drop me a line, friends, ok? Just because I'm doing well doesn't mean I don't miss you.

I do.

what better day to start work in new york?

it soooo totally hasn't hit me yet that i'm here.

i remember moving to san francisco (you know i love you!) and the culture shock was actually greater.

but of course i am sill rolling from the black rock burn.
(looking forward to have more of a moment to reflect and write on this gorgeous prolific playa time!)

or maybe i'm just feeling like part of this 'global village' we've been talking about.

or perhaps it won't hit me til i leave here and come back.

but will i call it 'home' when i do?

what is home?

i'm really looking forward to seeing all you wonderful new york people i've met recently.

as my head spins slowly enough to hold a phone against it you will be getting a call.

and as i ind my space, my place, i phase from beiong a visitor to a host of visitors.

i really like my job as a creative interaction developer, by the way.

and i can't wait to set my music studio back up as i am movin' on up...

we've been seeing each other for a while now. almost every day for almost four years. it has been great, certainly some of the best times of my life, and even though you're older and bigger than me, i think we've shared a lot of highlights in your time. too many to even list right now.

i do think our relationship is better than ever. i tell people how much i love you just about every day. you know that. i do.

when i first came to you it was hard, we both know. it's been easier and life with you has been better than any life i've known. especially lately.

so i'm not trying to get sentimental or anything. i know, i'm a man, you're a city, but i just need to tell you that i'm going away for a while. it's not you. it's me. i need to go seek my fortune. i will always love you and i will always come back to you. you are my home. i look forward to coming back to you. you are the best, best i've had, been had by, best i've ever seen.

peace.

hey y'all,
yes so i didn't make it to beat church tonight. i hope you had fun. i stayed home and made music of my own last night (lord knows i just spent 24 glorious hours in santa cruise rocking out at the 13 moontribe beltane party so don't cry for me yet, argentina)> indeed it's after 5 am and time for this tiger to cuddle up into the fur in his cave but first let me tell you something.

i like this. it's coming along. it's sounding better each time i play on it. work on it. i'm on no aritificial stimulants (and actually been drinking red wine and chamomille to try and wind down) and well pumped to keep it going.

this music is by no means complete, and i consider very little real music 'complete' but that's really the subject of another blog. but this CD I'd love to hand you, it's a collection of 7 themes I've been working with, that I haven't fully explored yet. I'd like to share them with you. I'm going to keep doing this and people are going to continue hearing me so please, any help you'd like to give is only gonna make the music sound better, and I'm going to be playing it anyways so let's do this thing.

have i mentioned 'delerium' lately? i think i have.

so of course i'm playing three equally wonderful gigs this weekend, fryday at the red party at 1015 with everyone and their sugar moms, extracentric with the fringe and ooah and adam at poleng lounge, amd how weird after-experiement with the wife and kids and fat city. i should have these CDs with me, mostly to share with my fellow music makers and if i know you than i'm sure that mean s you one way or another.

shoots, you know? i'm feeling delusions of eloquence in this delerious state. cocoa's gonna curl up before the sun comes up. we got a big weekend ahead of us and a lot of playing to do. i'll try and tell you more about the new record tomorrow.

this is what it sounds like when the rainbow's dying (the dreaming)

after the party, i realize we're some sort of prisoners now. by the front door of a mansion like compound. me and a girlfriend are sharing a ganja cookie when a guard comes out and demands to see what illegal contraband we're partaking in. i crumble half the cookie and give him a crumb.he is furious, so i say i'll get the rest and it some how turns into a little grenade. a hand it to him while holding onto the pin. he's seen this trick before and throws it far away. i run.

just then another car is arriving. they drive into the edge of the woods by the clearing. it's 4 youngish women of all different ages all dressed in white as candy ravers. with full candy necklaces, plastic beads, bracelets. sexy. i get in the back of the cars to get to know them.

in new hampshire, my fat republican uncle lou pulls up to the house in a huge car at some sort of family reunion. he says hi to some people, not me, and goes into teh backyard by the lake. i follow.

my mom's back there, lou's explaining to her, while holding a stake knife, that if he looses something he just replaces it. he then throws the knife into the lake. i see where it lands and then see my mom dive in after it. i come up behind lou and give him an aggressive hug, a bit like a strangle. then i notice it's my other uncle lou and i say hi.

we're standing next to each other when my mom remerges, not unlike the lady of the lake, with a long skewer and throws it to the shore. it slams into the concrete and stands erect, stuck in the wall, between lou and i.

i'm very impressed but this is not our old stake knife. the warn out one with the wooden handle i grew up cutting with. my mom comes out of the water and i get my bearings and hop in. how can i outdo that dramatic performance?

i quickly find the old stake knife and i hold it in my teeth like out old family pet and doggie paddle back to the shore. she's not paying attention and i want to let her in on the gag but i can't bark with this knife in my teeth. or am i imitating a pirate?

it doesn't matter because then, although i'm about 15 ft. from shore, a rip tide grabs me and pulls me away. out into the lake. mom's motioning for me to swim perpendicular to the riptide, parallel to the shore, but in a direction that's counterintuitive, and also pointing one way while shaking her head perhaps to indicate not to swim that way and then points the other way.

her sign language is so poor that i decide i shouldn't even pay attention to it and to scold her later on her poor communication. i'm splashing wildly now, i take the knife from my mouth and hold it so i don't cut my arm off, but it's still very dangerous. there are some trees coming out of the water, a make my way to them and hold on for dear life. i stick the knife into a knot in one of the trees, to come back for it later.

i then become female. and my lover who is also me swims out and rescues me. i put my arms around him as he takes my weight. i see it through his eyes now as i thank him, he thanks me. he tells me that he had no choice in the matter, he saw me in trouble and had to come running. and that the next vision he had was when we made love at the celebacy hotel. my vision cut to hot steamy colorful love scenes in green trees in secret. we swim back to shore.

one again, i explain that i'll remember where i put the knife exactly and i'll go back for it when the wind and the tide dies down. no time to worry about that, it's time to feast! my whole family's here. they know i'm vegetarian so they made me protest signs to wear while the rest of the family eats meat. i tell them i want one that tells what hot dogs are made of so they give me a sign to hold that says, simply, "Lips and Assholes" we all laugh and put on bibs.

the food is great. spongey cakes and yummies. as we eat, the credits roll and i try to listen to the words of the emotional music playing. the only words i can make out before i awake...

Breaks and electronic grooves from a live band and live DJs in the Mission Saturday night.

So the room finally has stopped spinning from last weekend and the tinnitus has chilled out. I didn't realize your serotonin levels could cause your ears to ring but i guess it makes sense. I love it. I love mad nonstop parties and I also love great shows. I love that this Saturday I get to hold it down in the Mission at 12 Gallaxies, scene of my first medium sized (big at the time!) SF show back in the day with the Fringe and LoPro Lounge crews. And hey - lots of good friends live in the Mission. Dear reader, perhaps that means you! Watcha doin' Saturday night? Let me offer you this suggestion as I tell you what I have planned.

Saturday night starting at 8pm, and continuing on until 2am and no later (until we take the afterparty to *your* house!) I will be enjoyng a combination of chilling and rocking, drinking and dancing, schmoozing and maybe even a little bit of boozing at 12 Gallaxies while enjoy first the some new beat my man Tim Dietz of the Fringe has been telling me he's recently collected, warming it up.
Between 9 and 10 I'm going to step up to the wheels of steel and play some records I've recently dusted off, as well as some new ones I haven't played anywhere except to a fully freaked out crowd at chinese new year. Some ragga shit. some dubstep. some latin grooves as well, which is all my musical roots, and get some hips swinging for sure.
I'm then gonna give it up to live electronic music from the Pnuma Trio, feel the summertime vibe, grooving on the dancefloor likes as if I was at a festival. I've not seen these guys yet but they're contemporaries of two of my favorite bands, BLVD and STS9. With some extra jazz theory homework up their sleeves.
And my man robbie motion potion will bring the funk out til last call after the band, and maybe even sneak some in between my set abd theirs. For all y'all at the saturday bassnectar show you know mopo can throw down, i know you loved the tag set he did with adam ohana.
next level.

word booty? see y'all there?
i'm talking to the balcony bootlegger crew now. c'mon.

ok, gotta bounce before my late morning slang gets the best of me.
see you on the dancefloor.

Tinnitus

Tinnitus (IPA pronunciation: [tɪ'naɪtəs] or ['tɪnɪtəs],[1] from the Latin word for "ringing"[2]) is the perception of sound in the human ear in the absence of corresponding external sound(s).

Tinnitus can be perceived in one or both ears or in the head. It is usually described as a ringing noise, but in some patients it takes the form of a buzzing, hissing, humming, or whistling sound, or as ticking, clicking, roaring, "crickets" or "locusts", tunes, songs, or beeping.[3] It has also been described as a "whooshing" sound, as of wind or waves.[4]

Tinnitus is not itself a disease but a symptom resulting from a range of underlying causes, including ear infections, foreign objects or wax in the ear, and injury from loud noises. Tinnitus is also a side-effect of some oral medications, and may also result from an abnormally low level of serotonin.

dental breakdown

ugh. so i put it off and put it off and after a few painful sleepless nights decided i needed to take the plunge. i had hoped i might be able to save the tooth through extensive root canal and reconstruction and blah blah blah and got 2nd and 3rd opinions, did the math, and finally as i said, took the plunge today. emergency apointment - give me the vocodin and rip out this problem child from my mouth.

a trickster til the end, tooth#5 was holding on strong, with extra alien roots lodged firmly in what my dentist called 'superman-dense' bone in my head. leaving a big part of the root in, i had to walk a few blocks with a mouth full of bloody gauze from my regular dentist's office to an oral surgeon to get the job done.

i don't have insurance, being a freelancer, so i couldn't afford the nitrous. they wouldn't let me bring my own, neither.

so now - back home - bloody hole in my smile but finally out of pain. kirsten bought me a jar of raw organic coconut butter which i am eating with a spoon, thining i need to sit back and watch a movie. i can't smoke, i shouldn't drink, so it's just a solo vacadin party for me today - but i had an interesting thought.

people carry stress in different parts of theor bodies. and work it out the best they can in a variety of ways. i remember a long, long, time ago, thinking what if i could magically store whatever stress, disease, or evil into a very concentrated part of my body and then part with it? forever? i started visualizing this over 20 years ago and wow - continued to as this rotting part of me was ripped from my head. yes, it was a part of me, helped me chew my food lots of things. but wow, was it causing me a lot of pain. and now it's done. the tooth is in a biohazard bag in union square now.

all gone.

i'm done with it. it's over.

the evil is gone and only one question remains.

should my replacement tooth be gold or crazy diamonds?
