identity of being

"On different levels of existence one takes the leap and tries to reach the other shore. The idea of the return--present in all religious acts, in all myths, and even in utopias--is the force of the gravity of love. Woman exalts us, makes us come out of ourselves, and simultaneously, makes us return. To fall: to be again. Hunger for life: hunger for death. Leap of energy, explosion, expansion of being: laziness, cosmic inertia, fall into the infinite. Strangeness before the Other: return to oneself. Experience of the unity and final identity of being."

— Octavio Paz, from his musings on Poetic Revelation, found in The Bow and the Lyre

I remember mistaking an old woman for a trout stream in Vermont, and I had to beg her pardon.
"Excuse me," I said. "I thought you were a trout stream."
"I'm not," she said.

— from Richard Brautigan's Trout Fishing in America

— Samuel Taylor Coleridge

As last we face the reckoning, eyes wide-eyed and rolling with the smoke of innocence, the ethereal hip-shake of beauty, a voice carrying a song in the last spirals of desire. What does it mean to perceive Goddess in a flash of hyper-stimulating undulations, movement, heartbeats, and swirling love shakes?

I am not sure I know how to respond to this communication.

I am not sure I can clear my thoughts to hear it pure.

In a Birth of Honest Reflection

A free man lies sprawled on a bus bench
He once knew the path to God
He hasn't forgotten, but the path to
Go numb is so easy, so welcome,
The path to know leaves you a freak
He's a liar, they say
He's an acid casualty
He's three eggs short of a dozen

I was struck by lightning once
I still have the scar on my wrist to prove it
A scar like an inverted five,
A long three-inch arc of pinkish-raised flesh
I rub at the bumpy ridge
It hadn't hurt, or maybe I didn't notice,
When it happened

Outside I hear boys playing hide-and-seek games,
They carry packs on their backs,
Skateboards strapped in
They create adventure from raw enthusiasm
Making a game out of life
Before life makes a game out of them.

the love rasa : shringara rasa

Shringar is the Rasa of love, art, beauty and spiritual devotion. It is the King (or Queen) of all Rasas, the very purpose of creation and the universe.

Creation only happened for the enjoyment of Shringara, when Shiva and Shakti, the male and female energies, who were one, decided to play a game of hide and seek. Love is the most extreme happiness that people can create together, living as a god and goddess in a universe of their own. In this way the relationship becomes a rehearsal of surrender to the universe and the Divine.

It is my belief that the love starts at the essence of Shiva and Shakti in oneself, and the finding of another, from which to spiral the love out in a grand dance of being. Of course, this other is yourself.

As many of you know, THE STREET CLEANER has been enjoying some great fortune on the festival circuit, and now we've submitted the concept to an online contest sponsored by FOX and MYSPACE. To be eligible for the contest, we had to cut our 34 minute film down to a 5-7 minute nutshell version. If you haven't seen our movie yet, and you want to be surprised, you can just vote without viewing. Or if you'd like to watch this version, feel free.

Either way, PLEASE click on the video link below and vote for us (a thumbs-up "Boo-yah!" goes a long way towards a win!)

(To Vote, you have to be a member of MySpace, and at least stick around until December 1. Sorry, I know it doesn't have the *joy* of Tribe, but there's opportunities for filmmakers to network there.)

Casida of the Dark Doves
by Federico Garcia Lorca

In the branches of the laurel
I saw two dark doves.
One was the sun,
the other the moon.
"Little neighbors," I said to them,
"where is my grave?"
"In my tail," said the sun.
"In my throat," said the moon.
And I who was out walking
with the earth at my waist
saw two eagles of snow
and a naked girl.
One was the other
and the girl was neither.
"Little eagles," I said to them,
"where is my grave?"
"In my tail," said the sun.
"In my throat," said the moon.
In the branches of the laurel
I saw two naked doves.
The one was the other
and both were neither.

Good news! This weekend at the Coligny Theatre's "Shorts at the Beach" Film Festival, our film THE STREET CLEANER swept away with three awards. For the People's Choice Awards, we won Best Topic and Best Film. The judges of the festival also awarded us Best Film!

As you can imagine, I am ecstatic.

Wouldn't it be nice if the ass baboons of Venus spoke the truth, and every kiss really was never-ending? If I woke up and those dreams I had in some innocent past day, maybe when I was 17, suddenly came true, or rather, were the true reality, and this long slip since was the actual dream, the experiment in what might be but never was. If I woke up. What keeps me sleeping?

There's something beautiful and innocent about this photograph. I think Thaddeus Golas was onto something, with this little book "The Lazy Man's Guide to Enlightenment" that he's ready to hand out in the photo.

"One of my psychedelic excursions had gotten off to a bad start, and I was sinking into a really satanic bummer. As I looked about me at people turning evil, shrunken, colorless, old and weird, I suddenly thought, "Well, what did you think it was that needed to be loved?" And just like that, the doors opened, and I was in paradise."

I'm excited for the next phase, sharing this excellent story and our hard work with everyone.

THE GIRL WITH BLACK wings blows on a tiny instrument in her hands, the sound a quiet foghorn. She looks at me, her eyes wondering what I think of her uniqueness, or maybe she is nervous that I’m paying attention. I’m the first to glance away, not wanting to offend.

I wonder about her purpose, adorned in such a way on this beautiful afternoon. Where is she wanting to fly? Maybe she has no desire at all and she is here, comfortable with herself, walking winged through Savannah so others can remember, this is what flying is like.

She opens her silver eyes while The Jesus & Mary Chain plays on the radio. With the light soft through her window, her first smile is, he's thinking about me. That boy, the practical dreamer.

Rolling over, she pulls blankets around her. I'm thinking about him. This is her second smile, golden light on her pillow.

Yesterday a letter came saying, hey I love you from all the way around the world. Through death and war her friend is alive, traveling.

Shrugging into her clothes, a third smile arrives. Though I want to, I don't have to be with him.
