I posted this saying a little while ago on Facebook...I don't know if people understood what I meant by this. The love that comes from the heart is fickle, easily changed and swayed depending on the circumstances. However, love from the liver, well....that's REAL love. That's love that is linked to life and will sustain you and w...

Vadalna Tribal Dance Co. Presents….
Pops, Locks, and Tick Tocks
Robotic and mechanical technique for tribal fusion belly dance
with
Asharah
March 15th, 2:45-5:45pm
“Pops, Locks, and Tick Tocks”
Inspired by robots, experimental electronic music, and the poppin' and lockin' B-Boys of the 70s and 80s, Asharah has integrated mechanical movements into her expressive tribal fusion performances. In this workshop, Asharah will lead students through an intense warm up and then will show students how to break down traditional bellydance movements such as vertical hip figure-8s, shoulder rolls, torso undulations, turns, and arm waves into smaller and sharper parts to give your performances a robotic and creepy edge. After drilling these movements, she'll teach a short combination that demonstrates how these movements can be used in a performance. She'll also briefly discuss concepts of electronic music, how it is created, and how to listen to the nuances of music made by machines and computers.

Intermediate Level I - Tribal Fusion: 7-8pm
Beginners Level I - ATS: 8-9pm
JP School of Dance
284 Amory Street
Jamaica Plain, MA
CLASS DESCRIPTIONS:
Tribal Belly Dance: Beginners Level I – American Tribal Style (ATS)
(16 week series)
Images of strength, fluidity and mystery swirl around tribal belly dancers from San Francisco to Tokyo, Japan. Drawing inspiration from folk as well as traditional or Cabaret belly dance, belly dance’s modern-dance sister, Tribal, has become one of the world’s most popular dance forms today. The term “Tribal Belly Dance” can also refer to a lot of different types of dance. In this series, students will be introduced to a foundation of tribal belly dance, American Tribal Style (ATS) as made famous by Carolena Nericcio, director of Fat Chance Belly Dance. In this class students will learn proper body alignment, basic movement technique and strengthening exercises that lie at the core of tribal belly dance’s powerful yet “ooey-gooey” movement. Additionally students will be introduced to Tribal Group Improvisation (TGI), a cornerstone of the ATS style. Every style of dance has its foundational moves, and Tribal Belly Dance, Beginners Level I endeavors to help students dive right in.
Tribal Belly Dance: Intermediate Level I – Tribal Fusion
(16 week series)
Building on the foundation of Beginners Level I and II (or equivalent experience), Tribal Belly Dance: Intermediate Level I introduces the student to the Tribal Fusion style. “Fusion” here means a sort of modern-dance equivalent of Tribal Belly Dance where elements of modern/interpretive dance, “popping”, as well as many others, begin to take on a more central role. Fusion movements will initially be introduced within the cued, improvisation tradition learned in Beginners Level I and II and then expand into independent fusion movements done to choreography.*
*Prior experience or teacher authorization required to take this level.
