Polly is a star. It's been some time since we last spoke, but the letters are beautiful. I cherish the way I know her. A memory, a present, some future hanging in the mist,... freedom. She is as beautiful as she is complex. I never know what she's thinking. I'd love to know her well.

Today is my mom's 60th birthday. It's also her sister, my aunt Susan's, 65th birthday. If he were still alive, their father, my grandfather, would be 100 today. (It's also my mom's best friend's 60th birthday!) Isn't that crazy? Happy birthday to them all!

Filter Magazine and Urban Outfitters put together a cd every year to benefit a charity. This year, it will go to the Pablove Foundation, the organization Pablo's parents founded to fund Wilm's research and play at CHLA. It's a double cd, full of really great artists. Some tracks were donated exclusively for the cd. Please follow the link for info and track lists, and if it looks good to you, please buy a cd at Urban Outfitters!

After 28 days in the hospital, four operations and countless invasive procedures and pokes and prods, the boy goes home today. Of course, we have to check in again on Monday, but we'll deal with that then. For now, it's a full weekend at home with his doggies, his fishie, his couch, his plates, his food, his bed, his bookcase, his Batman toys, his clothes and his backyard.
Here's where we stand at the end of this month. The large tumor was deemed unfavorable histology and the surgeons...

I'm not sure I've borne up well under the stress of the last few weeks. The feeling of isolation is intense. I have no partner with which to share this burden. I just go home alone each night and search for ways to get out of my head, to forget the sadness of all that is happening around me. I am completely focused on the boy, and so I have nothing left with which to examine my own life. I have lost direction, momentum, buoyancy. I have been turning too much to outside sources to deal ...
