</a>
										<div>I took this (with permission of course) from a friend's blog. I think it's important and so I am re-posting it.

I agree that we need to step up and stand up for our rights as women to choose when we have children and how many. I get so incensed when I read about new bills restricting access to birth control and the limited or lack of education about sex and pregnancy.

So if you are so inclined, click the link and sign the petition. We really need to be heard.

And who ever said that the fight for equal rights for women has been won, isn't paying attention....

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
... asking for pro-choice support ... so please do not read it and then scold me. I am not looking for a debate - this is posted just in case anyone wants to sign the petition - I refuse to sit by and let the states and government and religious advocates force their beliefs on my daughters, or their friends, or any other woman by restricting education, or access, or the right to choose basic things like health care, birth control, women's health, and yes, even abortion.
Hope I added the link correctly! The "Sign Petition" link is where I went - I already belong to this group so receive individual emails like this:
Flex the muscle of the pro-choice majority :
Dear Mary,
On Thursday, I have the privilege of traveling to Pittsburgh to sit on the Democratic Party Platform Committee to discuss, amend, and ratify the party platform. I want to arrive with the full strength of America's pro-choice majority at my side.
Representing the voices of the millions of Americans who cherish their reproductive freedom is something I cannot do alone. That's why I'll be hand-delivering your messages to Alice Germond, the Secretary of the Democratic National Committee.
The Democratic Party has invited activists across the country to meet and make suggestions about the platform. We cannot take the Democratic Party's longtime pro-choice position for granted—we need to demonstrate our strength.
Help keep the Democratic Party's platform strongly pro-choice. Flex the muscle of America's pro-choice majority by sending your message today!
And then join me in the coming months in taking the next critical step. Eight years of George Bush's attacks on our fundamental rights has been more than enough; please donate today, because we need your support to prevent four more years of the same from John McCain. With the Supreme Court close to evenly split on choice and privacy, we can't afford Sen. McCain in the Oval Office. We must elect a pro-choice leader, Sen. Barack Obama, as president of the United States.
Thank you for all you continue to do.
My best,
Nancy Keenan
    </a>
										<div>So last week I found a book case on Craigslist that I wanted.  I went and looked at it and it was perfect for the space I was going to put it in.  The lady wasn't willing to budge on the price, but she was in dire straights, so I paid.  We picked it up on Saturday morning.
Mike was a little irritated that I had paid so high a price for the thing, but whatever, I wanted it and she needed the money.
Across the street there was a yard sale, and it never hurts to look.
They had a small secretary style writing desk that had been painted a gawdawful green, but the size was perfect and I could see that it was an antique.  Easy to strip and re finish...It's perfect for what we need.
So, just for fun I googled it and found several for sale at antique stores...For $600-$1600!!
We paid ten!!!
It kind of makes up for the over priced book case!
The American Dream
    </a>
										<div>We are considering NOT going to Burning Man this year.  It’s not written in stone, but the price of gas and just having bought a home has put us in the uncomfortable position of making that difficult decision.
We WANT to go, we have our tickets, but we are also facing our first mortgage payment at the beginning of the month and we still don’t know what our overhead is for sure.
I was pondering the irony of the Theme this year, *The American Dream* coupled with the fact that gas prices are astronomically high, and having just purchased our little piece of the *Dream* makes it difficult for us to go experience this theme…
Irony is the spice of life….Or is that Sarcasm…Hmmm…
(I have no idea where this picture came from, but I didn't take it.)
										<div>I started to walking to work.
My new place is only a mile from my office and so I decided that I would walk to work.  We are going to sell my car and save some money for a down payment on a more economical one.  We still have Mike's truck for hauling and camping, but we really don't need two large, gas guzzling vehicles.
Mike started riding his motorcycle to work today, too.  That's going to make a difference.
I feel really good about it.  Not just what I am doing to use less fuel and help the environment, but what I am doing for my body.
Last year I started a desk job, sitting, eight hours a day...and I gained 30 pounds.
So this week I started...Walking, eating more sensibly...I want to be Healthy and happy...Not fat and happy!
    </a>
										<div>One of America's most popular and often controversial comedians, George Carlin, died in Santa Monica, California. He was 71.
George Carlin
From the early 1960's, through the beatnik, folk and hippie eras, to today's cutting edge humor, George Carlin has entertained generations of Americans. He starred in several movies, wrote a popular book, "Brain Droppings," appeared in several television series and was a guest 135 times on legendary talk show host Johnny Carson's "Tonight" show.  But George Carlin will be best remembered as a wise and witty stand-up comedian.
That excerpt, from "Son of WINO," recorded in Washington's long-closed night club "The Cellar Door," was in one of George Carlin's many comedy albums - two of which were honored with Grammy Awards.
George Carlin was born in New York City, the son of newspaper industry parents. His father was an advertising sales representative for several newspapers; his mother was a manager of the Philadelphia Bulletin's New York office, as well as Good Housekeeping magazine. During a 1999 visit to the National Press Club in Washington, Mr. Carlin recalled how his "Aunt Aggie," who produced the Sunday comics sections, helped him be the first boy to know what was in the newspaper - and a popular kid in school.
"Here's the great thing about Aggie's job. Not only did she bring home the funnies every week. She brought them home four weeks early," Carlin said. "Are you hearing this? Every week, I had the Sunday funnies a month before the other kids. I guess you can realize the power this gave me in the school yard -- to be able to predict weeks ahead of time precisely the way 'Mandrake the Magician' would escape from the lost cave. Or to describe in advance the details of whatever well-deserved catastrophe was next in store for 'Little Orphan Annie.'  It doesn't sound like much today. But in the days before television, and when you're eight years old, it was power beyond belief!"
With that introduction to comedy, via cartoon strips, George Carlin said he was blessed with good schoolteachers in his early childhood.
"In the 1940s, I attended a school still in existence: Corpus Christi in New York City. It was not a typical Catholic grammar school education. For one thing, we had boys and girls together. We did not wear uniforms. The desks were all movable. And, there were no report cards - no grades or report cards of any kind. It was a garden; it was a place that let me flower," Carlin said.
But George Carlin's fortunes changed in high school. Its harsh disciplinary rules led him to drop out before graduating. He said that experience helped foster his contempt for euphemisms and being told what he could or could not say. In 1973, a monologue by Mr. Carlin that was broadcast on the Pacifica radio network was declared indecent by the government's Federal Communications Commission. The case was ultimately upheld by the United States Supreme Court. And, George Carlin became forever known as the comedian who uttered the "seven dirty words that can't be said over the air." Reflecting on the incident, more than 25 years later, Mr. Carlin wondered what the fuss was all about.
"There will always be language taboos in any culture. There are aspects of our bodies that certain religions have put beyond the pale. I don't think it's cheapened our discourse. I think it limits people," he said. "I've always said I enjoy using all the language. Human beings invented all of this language. When I was a little boy, I was told to look up to policemen and look up to sports stars, and look up to the military. And we all know how they speak. Apparently it hasn't corrupted them morally. So. I think these words are overrated for their power."
George Carlin's notoriety from the "seven dirty words" incident helped make him one of the highest-paid comedians in the 1970's. In the 1990's, Mr. Carlin starred in his own situation comedy, which lasted one season, and provided the voice of a train conductor in the children's series "Shining Time." But he told the Washington audience he was, most of all, a comedian - an art form of which he was proud.
"I found it was an honest craft and that art was involved," Carlin said. " I do like to point out that there is an artistic process involved in observing the world, interpreting it, and then writing something about it and performing it. It's the low end of the scale in art. Perhaps it's not fine art. But it is art. I found that out and it gave me a purpose and strength."
Popular American comedian George Carlin, who died Sunday at the age of 71.
    </a>
										<div>"If faith were rational, it wouldn't be-by definition- faith.  Faith is belief in what you cannot see or prove or touch.  Fath is walking face-first and full-speed into the dark.  If we truly knew all the answers in advance as to the meaning of life and the nature of God and the destiny of our souls, our belief would not be a leap of faith and it would not be a courageous act of humanity; It would just be...a prudent insurance policy."
    </a>
										<div>Somehow, this is bigger than getting married.
Maybe because when you're married you can still go your separate ways, but once you own stuff together there's a bunch of red tape involved in that dissolution.  More than if you own nothing together.
Friday, when we signed the final papers, I was giddy and just couldn't keep the tears of joy in.  I was not allowed to cry in the restaurant, though.  I had spent so many years dreaming, imagining, fantasizing about this.  Us being together.  Us being partners in love and life.
And now it is happening.  We own a home together, we are planning our life in that home and talking about how it will enhance our life together.
It's crazy how big this is, and yet if feels like the easiest, most natural thing in the world to be doing.
I can see it in his eyes how happy he is, how much he wants this too.
Wow...Just wow!</div>
<div>OK everyone, here's the deal.
Things are rolling right along with our house. The papers went into escrow yesterday and we are setting up an inspection for early next week.
Here's what I need to happen, and what I am asking the Universe for.
My place, that I am selling needs to close escrow on or before May 27th. I want word of the date of close by the first of next week.
If you all could focus your mojo out there to us for smooth sailing through this and for a date of closure on my place, on or before the 27th of May, that would be fabulous!
This is my mantra right now; **Everything is going fine, smoothly and our way. We have found our home.**
										<div>This could be called *Our House*
We looked at it Sunday and immediately fell in love with it.  It needs no work for it to become *ours*...well maybe another bathroom.
We put an offer on it and it was accepted with just one tiny counter.
The first house was/is bank owned and we still haven't hear whether or not our offer was accepted, so we bowed out and took this one.  It's way more house for about 10K less money...Seems like a no brainer!
WOO HOO!!
If I wasn't at work right now I would be doing the **HAPPY DANCE**  So I'm just bouncing up and down in my chair...No wonder they keep wearing out!
OMG!!  Get a load of this kitchen!!
										<div>Mike and I put an offer on a house yesterday!!
We won't know if it's been accepted for about a week, but we jumped in and made an offer. It's a three bedroom 2 bath with a large garage. The bedrooms are small, and the kitchen needs a good bit of work to be...well what *I* want it to be, but the best part is the yard.
It has amazing hardscape and a terrace with a pergola and even more yard space! It's going to be perfect for us! PERFECT!!
It's very scary-exciting, but if they accept our offer, it will be the most perfect place for us!
Here's a picture of the yard...
I got a text message from my son saying he loves me...just because!
I get to go hang out with great friends tonight.
It's all good!!
