Informal poll

Judy duty seems to be popping up all around lately for folks I know (Nathan was just called to serve on a 5-WEEK trial, but chose to delay citing financial hardship.) Have you been called recently? Did you serve?

I was summoned in Oct when M4 was on tour and missed my day in court! I hope I don't have a warrant out for being in contempt of court... I served two days back in 1999 as well.

I just went in Oct.
Almost got picked to be on a trial that would of gone on for at least 3 wks!! Fortunately they didn't pick me but I was nervous for sure!!!
They don't let you plead financial hardship either! They really make you feel guilty about not doing your civic duty.
Which I do understand and would want that duty returned to me one day if I ever were in need of it!
But I sure as hell was relieved when I didn't have to serve because of financial reasons as well..

I have ignored 12 notices
and I was never contacted. Don't tell the government. I will just claim insanity anyway. (and financial hardship)

i just got home from the courthouse
thats right baby, juror #3
i got out of a three week trial, only to land in a 1 week trial. at first i was SUPER bummed ( i have to be there by 9, that's like the middle of the night to me!) and i still am bummed because i am missing going to Seattle tomorrow with VO, but actually it's pretty interesting to see how everything really works. though i have to admit the case is pretty boring. though of course i can't tell you anything about it.

i served a few years ago in California for a really weird DUI case. the guy was leaving a bar with a woman, and somehow she ended up outside of the car in the middle of the street, being medivaced out. that part we weren't allowed to know anything about. the case was about the guy. on the street he was subjected to the drunk test, and if you test positive for that then they have to take you down to the hospital, where they subject you to the Breathalizer 2000 or something like that.the police are supposed to monitor the suspect for 10 straight minutes to make sure he doesn't burp or barf or anything that would cause 'mouth alcohol' well he didn't do that, and then when the suspects results came out, they were well above the legal limit except the date printed out wrong on the machine! showing that the machine was possibly flawed....oh and when the other cop confiscated the guys keys, he lost them! ay yay yay. at the end of the trial the jury was in deliberation for like 3 days and we never came to a concensus, meaning it was a hung jury and the trial needed to be discarded.

funny - yes I was just summoned even though I am an official CA resident now - they apparently made a mistake when I called :)
