about me
Being retired I don't have to worry about what people think any more, so I'm going to be myself. Any new friends I make will know up front I'm wacko. "Weird and proud, say it loud!" is my motto. I'm eccentric but harmless, lascivious but already happily married, sorry, and I like most everyone immediately. People sometimes call me a Renassance man, but I'm nowhere near that old.
CURRENT EVENTS: The truth is that with my kids being grown up and my elderly in-laws being recently deceased or institutionalized, I suddenly don't have enough to do any more. So what's a middle-aged retired guy to do? Get a job as a Wal-Mart greeter? No. I decided to turn my quarter-century love of massage into a business, and I'm now a licensed massage therapist. But I'm still studying to become nationally certified. See www.tranquilitytime.com. Sign up for my mailing list on the CONTACTS page to hear about specials.

I'm giving up the name "Nekkid Jim" for the shorter and more discreet "NJ." YOU know what it means.

I'm trying to build up a massage clientelle and that means making an effort to look respectible. It's hard to do that here in the future, where all documents are hyperlinked together and "google" is a verb. But one must keep up appearances, or at least give it a shot. But never fear: under the sanitized scrubs and the professional businesslike demeanor, a dirty old man's heart beats quietly, simply waiting for the day when there are no clients around and it can make suggestive jokes and frolic about in the altogether. Burning Man is in 3 weeks. See y'all there! NJ tranquilitytime.com
I wound up camping with Love, Science, and Fruit at Flipside: we made smoothies and handed them out to parched hot revellers in the heat of the day. It was great! The smoothies were yummy, my campmates were super-duper-kewl, and when it wasn't raining there was fun all around, and when it was raining there was fun under a tarp.

Gracefully changing the subject, I just opened a new, larger, prettier massage therapy office in Richardson. It's only 3 blocks from my house, quiet, and oh-so-convenient. Can't wait to show it off! NJ
This is my 10th year as a burner and flipizen, so by now I'm friends with just about everyone. I don't want to do my own Flipside theme camp this year, and although I dearly love the people I've camped with in the past, I don't want to camp next to the meat smoker.

So does anyone want to adopt me this year? I'll help you build your stuff, participate in whatever you're doing, whatever it takes. I can bring my massage chair (and maybe a table too), a 1000 watt generator, and possibly some art. Last year I made signs for Myschievia Village, FSM Camp, Camp Lick-And-Suck, and my own camp, Eve's Song; I'd be happy to make you a sign if you adopt me. I have my ticket already (a free ticket I won for designing the tickets this year) and I plan to be a Ranger this year. I'm CPR/First Aid certified and a LMT. I don't do drugs and I don't expect to drink this year. I'm a middle-aged, happily married, non-smoking, skinny-dipping, classical music lover (who built his own harpsichord), an artist and sculptor, a would-be author with a degree in English Lit, a retired software consultant, and an enthusiastically weird guy who is happy with whatever weirdness is going on at the time.
The new year is starting off with a bang!

First off, my design was selected for the 2007 Burning Flipside tickets, so I get TWO (count 'em) free tickets this year. Secondly, I passed the state licensing exam for massage therapy. (Woo-hoo!!!) The license itself is in the mail, so I still can't charge for it for a couple more weeks. (Zzzz...) See www.tranquilitytime.com for more info. And of course my beautiful and talented daughter just finished up her degree at UNT (Whew!) and is getting married this spring. You know the happy couple as Poptart and Ass Pirate. Good things all around! I hope that's true of the rest of y'all too! NJ
The state practical exam for massage licensing was this week-end in Austin. That's seven hours of driving for a six-minute hands-on exam. I won't know whether I passed for another couple of weeks, and if all goes well it will still be a month before the state mails me a license.

So in the meantime, I'm still handing out FREE massages to friends in need. It keeps me in practice, and word-of-mouth is the only advertising I'm allowed for now. Other than that, the week-end was good. I stayed with Flash and Lannie and they took me to a mellow party. Thanks F&L! **** Other weirdness: Burning Man 2006, The Garden of Hope, my art project, was visible from space. It seems that Google Earth obtained a satellite photo of Black Rock City in full throttle, and the logarithmic spiral of the Garden of Hope is clearly visible in the tabula rasa of the Black Rock Desert. OK, so everything else is visible too, including my camp, your camp, etc. Still, I thought it was cool. Link: www.google.com/maps
