What? The Bacon Event of the Decade
When? Sat Mar 21, 1-4pm
Where? 500 3rd St, Ste 510, San Francisco
What Else?
In the spirit of barcamp, we are organizing the first bay area BaconCamp. Born from the desire to share in all things bacon, we bring you this community-driven baco-celebraion, and encourage your participation!
Over 25 baco-tastic dishes are scheduled to be presented. Check out what’s planned: baconcamp.pbwiki.com/Bringing-a-Dish.
Do you have a bacony bit of culinary accomplishment which you think the public must taste? BaconCamp is still accepting entries and the prize is one of these coveted trophies which, if won, ensure you undisputed baco-bragging rights. Just go to the wiki and enter your dish!
BaconCamp is free, but participants are encouraged to purchase tickets baconcampsf.eventbrite.com/ to raise funds for the American Heart Association.
Don’t cook, but love bacon? Techniques, poems, interpretive dance and any other baco-inspired expression is welcome! There will be Bacon Slam Poetry featuring your best baco-tweets, “One Hour in Bacon” and even Bacon Math Art.
Participate! Volunteers are needed to help run the event from 11am - 5pm. Sign up at baconcamp.org/SFBayArea_notes_03_21 with your name, email and available timeframe.
This is the event that even vegetarians can’t afford to miss!
Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that I’m a judge!
With Love and Pork Fat!

Feel free to re-post, cross-post and circulate as you will!
Help Hollis Get Home
If you know Hollis Hawthorne and are reading this now for the first time, I am so sorry. My friend Hollis was in a motorcycle accident in India this past week. She has suffered extreme brain stem injury and is in a coma. Stanford Medical Center has accepted her but the problem now is getting her home. Costs for med-vac-ing her home are about $150K. Her friends, family and burners are doing all that we can.
Details can be found at www.friendsofhollis.blogspot.com/ and helpholligethome.blogspot.com/ --Even if you only have an extra $10, please consider helping out. If you have a lot more, then, that would be wonderful. If you know a pilot with a plane that can handle this, please contact a family member, immediately. You can find contact info on either of those blogs.
(Pictured above, Hollis and I on the back of the Lunch's "art sleigh," Christmas 2006. Hollis is on the left. This is a great memory for me but not so wonderful as Hollis "floating" across the playa doing cartwheels for me at dawn, JuPlaya '06.)
Playanxiety
playanxiety - n - anxiety or stress leading up to arrival on playa. can include packing, art projects, car repairs and projects.usage: This year, I plan to reduce playanxiety by packing light and not working on projects.
Physical Therapy & Stuff
Well, I started physical therapy today. They said that "I have my work cut out for me." Ugh. I wore heels to work today anyway. In other news, lunch with Ronnie & Baby James was fantastic. He's such an adorable giggly little thing.
FREE sign making or burning man materials....
I have a stack of large banners that have printing on one side and are blank on the other, which used to be graphics for a 100"x100" trade show booth. They're heavy-duty flexible plastic, almost like vinyl, some are matt board, some are more like fiberglass; all are flexible and durable--varying sizes. A couple have slightly worn edges but most pieces are almost new. They seem like they'd be great materials for making signs or for a burning man camp as the material is durable and easy to paint over.
They're in SOMA and you'll need to come get'm.
Email netdiva@gmail.com if you want them.
FREEDOM!
The doctor officially freed me of my knee brace this morning and I have an (almost) normal looking knee. I can't walk normally yet and man it feels strange. But hurray! My goals are to be driving again by mid-weekend and to be able to wear low (<3") heels by Monday. However, I'm not going to push it so if I don't feel ready, I'll just have to procrastinate those achievements.
Hip Hip Hurray for my realigned patella!

Laid Up
I'm really going stir crazy. The good news is that my knee seems to have made huge progress since the weekend. The bruising is almost gone and the swelling is WAY down. Last week, it looked like a basketball. This weekend, like a large grape fruit. Today, it's more like a softball. So yeah, I guess we're making progress.I see the doctor in the morning at 8:15. I hope to actually make it into the office afterwards.
Steve rented a wheelchair so that we could go to museums over the weekend. We didn't make it due to Juicy's 3-day-long birthday party. However, we are going to use it tomorrow to go to Fire Arts! So watch out burners! That's where you'll find ME!
Screencap of the Creepy Comment of the Day
Tribe manages to stay up for a full day and the creeps come right out of the woodwork.I survived!
Well, I've survived knee surgery - the first surgery I've ever had. I'm sore as hell and a little grumpy, but I have a bottle of percosat and this super cool cyber icerator machine that circulates ice water continually over my knee to keep swelling down.I don't expect to be on my feet in the next couple of days but I'm slowly progressing. Steve is taking amazing care of me! I'm such a lucky girl!
