The To-Do List

<div>When I go camping, I have to make a giant to-do list before I can go. It's 7:00 in the morning and I want to be on the road by 11. That gives me four hours to do the following:

1. Groceries (30 minutes)
     - spray olive oil
     - eggs
     - granola bars
     - water
2. go to the Y (1 hour)
3. clean room (30 minutes)
4. finish packing (30 minutes)
5. put away laundry (30 minutes)
6. check up on car (15 minutes)
     - tire pressure
     - oil
     - coolant
     - gas

I hope I'm not missing anything.

Ok, gotta get running on that! Hey!</div>

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: "Gigsville is Full"

<div>LAKE HUGHES, CA -- Earlier this morning, internal sources claimed that Chief Senior Advisor to the Administration, LuMi, emailed the mayors past midnight saying, "Gigsville is Full." "I'm calling it," said Mayor Normal, "We must stop adding people." These statements came in response to a classified document written by Mayor Jetfuel. Included in that document was the percentage of space taken. This percentage is believed to be calculated based on an ancient art called "Math," which Mayor Jetfuel has been rumored to study and use. The document also indicates that roughly 200 - 300 campers will be included in Gigsville this year.

The internally-sourced documents indicate that no further space is available and that Gigsville is full, though some Heads of Camps disagree. "When I asked for my space, I thought Sniffy Bill was coming," says long-time Gigsville resident, Kevissimo. "He's been a friend of mine for a while and I was sure he'd come. Turns out, he didn't ask for the time off from work, and now it's too late to really ask. So I guess we've got another space. Should I let Jet know or do I just find someone to fill the space? I'd ask Kitten Kitten, but he's in jail for indecent exposure with TitWAsH Kitten."

Mayors JetFuel and Normal are on a peace mission to El Mirage lakebed and were unavailable to comment.</div>

										<div>reposted from XTC's blog....

1st Annual Austin GRILLED CHEESE INVITATIONAL!

Registration is now open!!

http://www.grilledcheeseinvitational.com/austin/index.html

There will be only 40 competitors, no exceptions. So before you go to register, be thinking about what category you will compete in, what the name of your sandwich will be, and whether your sandwich will be vegetarian. (All of this information will be required at registration.)

Note: If you only plan on eating, there's no need to register. Only register if you are going to compete.

Category Reminders (See the rules page for the legalese questions about them):

The Missionary Position: Standard bread, standard butter, and standard cheese.
The Kama Sutra: Exotic or standard bread, butter, and cheese plus additional ingredients.
The Honey Pot: Exotic or standard bread, butter, and cheese, but a sandwich that is sweet in general, or would best be served as dessert.

Doors to the event will open at 7:00pm and the grilling will start promptly at 8:00pm. All those planning on grilling should be there and ready at 7:30pm.

ITEMS/RULES YOU SHOULD BE AWARE OF:

1) All sammiches must be pre-registered. There will be no on site registration WHATSOEVER!

2) There will be a maximum of 40 competitors, no exceptions.

3) Each competitor will be allowed only 30 minutes to grill per category. So save yourself the time and do as much prep-work ahead of time. You can compete in more than one category.

4) All contestants must present their sandwiches on the official plates provided. This is to insure that every sandwich gets it's 16 votes turned in. You can have additional items with your sandwich (pamphlets, drinks, etc), but they MUST fit on the plate provided.

5) All those looking to eat sammiches must get them at the judging station and not at the cooking area or by the chefs. Competitors should provide their own runners who will go and get sandwiches and bring them to the judging station. NO EXCEPTIONS. We will have some volunteer runners to assist, but the competitors should not rely on us to have one for you.

7) While we are tabulating the results, there will be entertainment.

Please note, all other rules still apply.
grilledcheeseinvitational.com/rules.html

So, get registered, people. You snooze, no cheese!

What I did to my arm

<div>Amani asked me twice what I did to my arm, so I guess I should answer.

It's a really pretty boring story, but it does involve platform boots, so maybe that makes it a little better.

Heather and Jillian and I were rehearsing some dance routine to Nancy Sinatra's "these boots are made for walking" and Pink Floyd's "the wall", which I thought was a sin against music. Truth be told I wasn't really that into being there for the performance, but I had said I was going to. And so I was. We were rehearsing outside on the concrete and my white platform boots slipped on one of the cracks on the concrete and I fell backwards and caught myself with my arm. I sat there for a minute prodding around in there while I was in shock, and I could definitely feel that it was both dislocated and broken, so we went to the emergency room.

I've been keeping my chin up about it, but it's really difficult because most things are designed to have two hands. Putting on my bra is really hard, picking stuff up is really hard, opening doors while holding a notepad is really hard... things you wouldn't even necessarily think of are really difficult.

And then in good news and bad news, I have to move in a couple weeks. Sonja is moving out of her room, which means that I can move in, but it's really difficult to move all the stuff out of my storage locker with one arm.</div>

    </a>
<div>Finally! I've gotten speech therapy software, and now I'm totally kicking ads and taking names. With regards to writing! Of course, the accuracy leaves a little to be desired, but it's better than nothing, in fact, as a test I'm going to not correct any of the mistakes that it makes. So if your misplaced homonyms, you know why my arm is doing much better. The pain is totally gone. Now it's just a drag to be wearing this hulking cast all over the place.

A least ice can still go to the gym and work out and gone hikes and stuff.

Wow, I just reread what I wrote and it doesn't make any sense at all. Anyway, things are going really well in general, though I have to drop out of my wilderness travel course since the doctor says my arm won't be fully healed for a year. Diva is freaking out so I have to go take her for a walk, but I wanted to keep you up to date on what was going on a ledge to know that I'm not dead

That's sweet. I love that were on a ledge now up. Okay I guess I should stop being so amused by this and get on with my day. Pray who Ray Garay all of those sizes is trying to say hooray okay got to go</div>

Last weekend was one of the most amazing EVERRRRR!
First, I was hanging out with all my best friends! Shady even showed up
for what was going to be my wedding, even though he was really sick!!! And
all my friends were out at the camp... Slinky had put inflatable ponies
and balls all over our bunks, it was SO AWESOME! Our cabin was full of
people from the Bay Area, which is totally funny because, like, I don't
even LIVE there anymore. But it was great. I got to spend a lot of time
with all my pals from up there. It was cool!!!!

My friend Splat
had set up a photo studio that we could use all by ourselves:
http://www.flickr.com/photo_zoom.gne?id=2160008445&amp;size=l
Slinky and I recreated the birth of Our Lord:
http://www.flickr.com/photo_zoom.gne?id=2158631438&amp;size=o

I must admit, we partied pretty hard on our first night, but hey!
I hadn't seen many of these people in a long time. And they're my best
friends ever! So, like, you know. We had to do it. It was only on this
trip that I realized how much I hate Ed! (!!)

I was real proud
to see my co-mayor, JetFuel, there and having a nice time:
http://www.flickr.com/photo_zoom.gne?id=2161429670&amp;size=l
He's the best!! One of the highlights of the whole weekend was the town
hall meeting, where JetFuel actually led a really productive meeting, made
about a gah-zillion times more productive by Eriko and XT!!! I couldn't
believe how amped people were about how much OUR VILLAGE WILL RULE THIS
YEAR!!!!!! People signed up for projects and kept adding to them all
weekend... even after the trip, when Shady and I talked about a very
special surprise project! eeeee!

I can't wait to tell Gigsville
about this! They'll totally DIE!!!

And then on Monday night,
the most MAGICAL THING HAPPENED! I was, like, TOTALLY ready to get married
to my super amazing hot pal, Heidi, and SUDDENLY, instead of getting
married to a friend, I TOTALLY MARRIED AN ANAMATRONIC PONY!!!!!!! I
KNOW!!! It turns out a lot of my friends had got together and got me a
pony! A PONY! And Cap'n Shady, the guy who masterminded the whole thing,
totally married me to her!

Her name is Butterscotch and she's
soooooooo cute and smart. She even eats out of my hand when I feed her
with a special magic carrot! Terry even heroically protected my special
Butterscotch from all potential threats... I'll totally have to thank him
later! He's sooooo dreamy!!!! *swoooon!* Ya know?!

Anyways, it
was a totally awesome time! I even made some NEW FRIENDS! It was totally
just like summer camp, except in the middle of Winter! LIKE, WOW!!! YAY!
Chaos, Girl Bob, JP, Ed, Squatch and I are totally going to go hiking and
be all outdoorsey with the Outdoors Club.
http://www.flickr.com/photo_zoom.gne?id=2159472179&amp;size=o
In fact, maybe I should start ANOTHER LIST!
http://groups.google.com/group/gigsville-athletica Oh
BOY!!!

I can't wait until the Grampage, when lots of my friends
will be back together AS OLD PEOPLE! I know! Isn't it funny? OLD PEOPLE!
Ha! We might even pretend to be THIRTY YEARS OLD! Or older!!! Like,
you know, MUMMIES!

Anyways, I'm tired and should probably go to
bed. Thanks, Diary, for being so rad.

love and x (but only one,
ok?),

<div>It's true, I'm chillin' at home because I'm tired and not feeling fantastic. Of course, after a full day on the couch doing nothing but typing on the computador, I don't feel better at all... but hey, whatever! I'm going over to my friend's house to sew and then I'll feel more accomplished. And I have tomorrow off work too!

Anyways, it's the first time in a while that I've had personal interweb time to spare. Most of it has been spent updating my flickr stream or checking my email. I haven't even been doing either of those much.

Things are going great. I am sleeping on the couch of where will ultimately be my home...</div>

Speaking of, if you're looking for an awesome place with awesome roommates for a not-bad price, you should look into renting my place. I'd have stayed forever if I wasn't moving to LA.

It's in Lake Merrit in Oakland, really nice neighborhood, in a studio apartment (pretty small studio), walking distance to everything, farmer's market on Saturday, best roommates in the world, $750/mo utilities included.

Yes, they allow pets.</div>

Tonight is the most anticipated Grilled Cheese event in Northern California, where 30 Sandwich Masters come together to battle to the cheesy death over who can make the best Grilled Cheese Sandwich and YOU WILL BE THE JUDGE!

The competition's unique setup allows for both professional chefs and amateur foodies to face each other on an equal playing field, in order to determine just who is a Grilled Cheese Champion. Many will try, most will fail, only a few will be Champions but EVERYBODY will win.

All competitors will grill several sandwiches, and then square them out into four sections each. The sections will be placed on individual plates with ballots. You, the Grilled Cheese Invitational judge, take the sammich and determine its presentation, deliciousness, and spaztasticness. When you're done, submit your ballot and we will do the rest of the super-secret, super spectacular tallying.

At the end of the night, the sandwich that meets the highest standards of quality, presentation, and deliciousness will be awarded its category of Grilled Cheese Invitational trophy!

<div>Hi Everyone!

Tribe is back up and I can give you all the information you've so desperately been waiting for!

The Sandwich Registration form is up here:
www.grilledcheeseinvitational.com/oakland

Registration is limited to 20, so register today if you want to be in the contest.

How do you judge? You show up! Everyone in the audience will judge these sandwiches and submit their vote for the best Grilled Cheese Sandwich!

Details:

The Grilled Cheese Invitational™, America's most fierce and awesome Grilled Cheese cooking contest, is making its Oakland debut on October 25th at Eli's Mile High Club.

The competition's unique setup allows for both professional chefs and amateur foodies to face each other on an equal playing field, in order to determine just who is a Grilled Cheese Champion. Many will try, most will fail, only a few will be Champions but EVERYBODY will win.

The competition is broken up into three categories of sammiches, THE MISSIONARY SAMMICH, THE KAMA SUTRA SAMMICH, and THE HONEY POT. The Missionary Sammich maintains the perfect simplicity of the Original Grilled Cheese Sandwich, with bread, butter, and cheese. Infinitely more creative, the Kama Sutra opens the universe of the Grilled Cheese to its true spiritual nature through whatever culinary perfection the chef chooses. The third and final category, the Honey Pot, is sweetened to perfection through Dessert Grilled Cheese. If the sandwich is sweet, it's sweet enough for the Honey Pot.

For competitors, the process is simple:
1) Show up with your recipe and enough supplies to cook 16 samples (usually four sammys cut into four samples each).
2) Grill head to head, using the patented "Olympic-rated" cooking stoves and hand off completed sammiches to the runners, who will take them inside to distribute to the hungry masses.
3) Hope for glory.

For anyone looking to attend/judge the process is even simpler:
1) Show up.
2) Get sammich.
3) Eat sammich.
4) Vote on sammich.
5) Repeat.

All votes will then be entered into our computerized tabulation system and 1st, 2nd and 3rd place trophies will be awarded to the top three performing sammiches in each category. The overall winner will win a ticket to Los Angeles to compete in the National Grilled Cheese Invitational in April of 2008.

And for those who haven't gotten their fill of cheese, Eli's kitchen will also be open and serving grilled cheeses as well!
