Solar Death Ray (Seriously)

One of my campmates has a solar death ray, that is an 8 square foot lens. It can melt sand. It can light fires. It can even (correction s/evaporate/boil/) boil a gallon of our gray water in 8 seconds.

1 square meter (about 9sq ft) receives about 1000 w of energy when the sun is right overhead. That will melt a penny, but it sure won't evaporate a gallon of grey water in 8 seconds. Can we fry some ants like when I wuz little?

Correction
Payne, you are correct. I should have said boil. It won't vaporize it instantly, just start evaporating. Still, a pretty damn good way to speed up the process.
