Taming my mind

I let my mind run amok today. Screeching through thoughts at ridiculous speeds. Whirring up a whole storm of emotions. Splashing with fantasies disguised as possibilities.

When I finally got tired of that, I set myself back on the task of taming my mind. I do this sometimes by journal writing about some concept that I am dedicated to creating in my life. Today, this was my focus.

Perspective, another Buddhist lesson.

I began studying Buddhism the weekend I arrived in Korea. It will be 2 years next month. While I was in Korea, I spent several weeks at monasteries and in temples. I was gifted great opportunities to study and live with monks. I lived across the street from a temple where I spent a good deal of time. My final 5 months in Korea, I began living the monk schedule of 4am meditation, walking meditation and work. I did this every morning with reasonable exceptions. Perfection

my mind won't stop...

I am flooded with images: memories of my past and imaginations of my future. It's all non-sense. not just because of the little things like receiving a beautiful postcard from you that slapped a child-like smile on my face; not just because i reflect back on memories of being present with you, and you with me, and feel a longing one truly feels when they miss someone special; not just because you tantalize me with your poetry, your words, your expression; and not just because of your boldness, courageousness, and whim. no, this is just the surface of a depth so breathtakingly deep and layered that one would need years to penetrate, and only then maybe adequately describe the wondrousness of you.

I luvs me some BadKitty! I think most of her friends enjoy Baditty as the awesome human being that she is. In equal measures we love her for her honesty, earnest abandon, and passion. Her outpouring of positive emotion, with a focus on love and joy being in-the-moment is obvious and wonderful to be around. While Badkitty's epic serial adventures (both good, and not so) are the the stories of legend, I know of few souls who consistently live as vigorously in the moment as she does. I respect and take my hat off to her for that committed passion and truth.
