Better than Therapy
Mon, July 31, 2006 - 1:22 PMI went to an awesome event called "Soulcalism" the other night. Justin Hopper and friends were spinning 50's & 60's soul. DAMN that was fun! It was at White Eagle-- the tiniest afterhours club ever-- with little light-- and less A/C. EVERYONE was dancing ('cause you were covered with sweat just sitting, so you might as well get 'cho ass up on the flo'). All you could really see were sillouettes weaving around eachother. I felt like I was in a juke joint in the Mississippi Delta or sumthin'. I took a couple air breaks to go outside, and when I did I realized I was COVERED in sweat. I mean hair-dripping, wring-out-your-skirt sweating! I didn't even realize it when I was moving. The music felt so good, and everyone was getting-off. We were all in a trance...
After that... I felt right for days! I was so grounded and felt good in my skin. I loved everyone & felt like a queen. I've tried it all and I have to say that for me, dancing is definately better than therapy.

Entranced...
As a guy, I can say, yes, I also get that feeling when the groove is right and the move is might.
There have been times, like at Gulf War, where I've danced and totally lost track of the time, the place and the space. And I've been lucky that people have allowed me that trance. If you ever get the chance, ask Tshaya about dancing in the middle eastern tent at Gulf Wars. When I finished, which was when the musicians finally stopped, I looked up to see Tshaya, Morgan and pretty much everyone else just sitting there watching me. I felt slightly guilty for having taken over the space, but the rush... AHHHHh.... That feeling of power that is so rare in day to day life. I've had that feeling a couple times when I've danced with you, my dear Miss Olivia! Dancing in the moment with someone else is even better because there is that mingling of energies, a Kirlian Aura Fuck as it were, The ultimate safe sex perhaps? And no wet spot!! ;-))) Okay... there is a wet spot, but after dancing hard, what would you expect? Its NATURAL!! |

Actually, it was the White Eagle in Pittsburgh. Maybe every city has one. We have two!

hehe.. I never pictured you going to the WhiteEagle. It's the seedy underbelly of the Pittsburgh scene. I'm a founding member of the club btw. Definitely the best after-hours joint in town.

fyi - There's actually three in Pittsburgh, but they are totally unrelated. The one you went to is actually the White Eagles Lodge '154', and has a organized affiliation.

Im not sure which one you mean, it's the one nestled in the hillside of the Southside Slopes. I just went again last night-- too fun! The smokey haze was thick-- and the dance floor so dark, you can't even see who is dancing next to you. Everyone is dancing so hard and laughing, clapping or singing with the songs. It definately has an urban tribal feel (not to be confused with those supa hot grrlies out west). We'll have to go, if you come back to the 'burgh sometime.

Sounds like to me, you sweated some toxins out of your body if you felt that good afterwards :)

Probably,
