The best Chicken soup ever!

<div>**Warning** this post contains a scene that might freak you out***

Look at those chickens above. foghorn &amp; elvira? well our household decided to get some new babies, and despite our efforts to give them to a foster home, we couldn't , and the cycle of life barrelled on and on and we killed them. It was moderately traumatic, but ultimately profound to skin a chicken, clean it, pull out the innards with my hand in a still warm body. and then put it in the freezer, and the stew pot.

foghorn was the survivor of at least 4 racoon attacks that took most of the chickens we have had over the years. She was a survivor. I loved the way she destroyed all the seed beds, and just wrecked the garden or wherever she decided to put her scratching energy. Elvira was a foster bird from someone who moved away. she was so pretty and kind of useless. she always followed foghorn's lead. upset when foghorn flew over the fence, and she couldn't figure out how to get out too. Over the last few months both girls were expanding their territory down the street. We'd come home in the afternoon, and they would be across the street, in the street, down the street. They always knew where home was, corralling them was easy.

Since saturday i look out the window in the morning, and for a split second forget that they are gone and wonder where they are. then i remember i ate them. Foghorn made the best chicken dumplings stock I have ever had.

thanks ladies. have fun at the seed bed in the sky. scratch up a worm for me!</div>

<div>In one of my tribes we were discussing this-- I want to know my family better. tell me about your super powers!!
Here are mine -- feel free to expound on others you think folks have but don't know about yet! AFFIRMATIONS!

MY 3 powers:

1. power to recognize &amp; see the person behind the masks we hold in front of ourselves. especially useful with the hairy.
2. the power to love (yes even (especially) you). warts, issues and all!
3. power to teach people to fly in the dream world. (arms outstretched, 3 twists to the right, liftoff!)</div>

										<div>There was a boy
a very strange enchanted boy
They say he travelled very far, very far
over land and sea.

A little shy
and sad of eye
but very wise was he.

And then one day
One magic day he came my way
And though we spoke of many things
fools and kings
this he said to me,

"The greatest thing you'll ever learn,
is just to love, and be loved in return."

										<div>-----------------------------------------------------
Love's the boy stood on the burning deck
trying to recite "The boy stood on
the burning deck." Love's the son
stood stammering elocution
while the poor ship in flames went down.

Love's the obstinate boy, the ship,
even the swimming sailors, who
would like a schoolroom platform, too,
or an excuse to stay
on deck. And love's the burning boy.
-----------------------------------------------------

-this poem references the original by Felicia Hemans, a common poem children were made to memorize.

Happy Valentine's Day. Happy Oregon State becomes a state day.

Read the poem at least 3 times. then respond to the topic of love.

    </a>
<div>I know folks will be surprised, but this year i am all about football! Growing up in a Seattle suburb, our family was always watching football. I admit to loving it when i was a teenager, and growing out of it in college -- to some extent -- and despising it in my activist years -- but now, all year long, i've been excited -- and now they are going to the superbowl -- it's very exciting! I feel nostalgic and proud -- Even the original quarterback that i grew up with is the quarterback coach! -- it feels like the cubs going to the world series ( and yes i love baseball too, but i'm somehow not as shy about that)!!

Plus, even though the seahawks have the MVP, and a star quarterback-- when they play and 3 receivers make touchdowns, the MVP makes 1, and the defense makes 2, you get the feeling they are a whole team, sharing the glory, working together in collaborative way that really shines through beyond the advertisements, the flash and even paul allen-- and of course that is what i love.

If people want to come over to Superbowl sunday at the Umatilla House --- give a call. We are surely celebrating!!</div>

										<div>DANCE FOR THANKS

once upon a time, a wise person said:
every day we must dance if only in our minds
why do we dance? because we are happy to be alive
so everyday we must dance;
to say thank you god
thank you for life.

EULOGY

there is no death, there is only birth
and birth and birth and birth

consider the trees
that allow the birds to perch and fly away
without calling them back.
if your heart can be like a tree,
you'll be close to the way.

when the multitude laughs at you, you are blessed

i depart as air
i shake my white locks at the runaway sun,
i bequeath my self to the dirt
to grow from the grass i love.
if you want me again
look for me under your boot soles.
you will hardly know who i am or what i mean
but i shall be good health to you nevertheless.
missing me one place, search another
i stop somewhere, waiting for you.
