Observations

aren't they? i never know what curves i'll be thrown in life, but there's always one that sticks closely behind me. my spine. creepy, isn't it? that large divergence in the verticular assignment of spinal disks is in my humble theory the direct result from walking on one leg that's shorter than the other for, i dunno, 20 years maybe. this view is as if it (i. me) is facing you. it's no wonder i can't keep my balance, for christ's sake. and the 'funny' thing about it is i went to the friggin' may-o clinic, to a 'specialist' who took lots of pictures but gave me nothing in return. no suggestions. no words exchanged at all. just "in god we trust" thousands of times over and over again. but, i did get irradiated numerous times, got to see the contents of my colon (apparently, it's 'angel soft.'), and i get to share my souvenir shot at 'mr. mayo's wild ride', done by what appears to be a caricaturist with no sense of humor whatsoever. neat. i share with you, my backbone. "crooked as a question mark" but somehow still holding me up.

next time: the story of patrick's guardian angel and the case of "does he buy gasoline, or food with his last $5?"

hey everyone,

just dropping you a few lines to let you know what the happenings have been for me lately. first, i just started a new med regimen. i wear a fentanyl patch instead of taking oxycontin. it's been one day and so far so good.

second, i was just awarded a $1000 individual artist grant! this is my first grant ever, so i'm pretty darn excited! the plan is to replenish my nearly-dry supply of art materials, create 10 NEW pieces (drawings, paintings, photography, etc.) by the end of october, mat/frame them and possibly have an exhibit by the end of the year. i'll also be hiring a pro web designer to create my new site at packyman.com. what i have up is a lame excuse for a website. you can either see my artwork here: www.mnartists.org/artistHome.do or here: www.freewebs.com/packyman/ <----- that one is my newest, and it's a work in progress, so keep checking in from time to time.

third, i'm beginning my foray into the world of voice acting. a friend/artist works for the local TV station doing on-air ads, and he's going to record me a demo. from there, who knows? but it's been a dream of mine to get into acting of some sort, and i can do a bunch of goofy voices, including a pretty fluent donald duck. i've been getting burnt out on the graphic arts (especially where i work now) and i'm looking into other veins of employment. i still want to go back to school to study film, so maybe i'll add on an acting minor.

that's about it for me. for now. i hope all of you are happy and well, or at least ONE of those. until next time,

patrick

hi to anyone who actually reads this poor neglected blog. i'm just not in the typing mood most of the time now since i'm on the computer emailing co-workers every day.

anyway, it's been a while. my holidays were OK... mainly uneventful. that's good in my family, believe me. right before x-mas my health was taking a spin downward. i had the flu which hung around for a week. it was a violent flu, and i'll spare you the gory details. needless to say i didn't think a human could throw up that much. but since mid-december my health has been getting better. i'm actually NOT achy nearly as bad as i used to be. we upped my prednisone dose to 10 mg. every day, and the results have been positive.

next year i'll be a PUBLISHED AUTHOR! it's not that impressive, but it's still pretty cool. smithmag.net had a memoir-writing contest where you had to sum up your life in SIX words. they received over 5k entries, and of those they picked one grand prize winner. it wasn't me. BUT they chose 400 bios to include in a HarperCollins book scheduled to be released in '08 titled "NOT QUITE WHAT I WAS PLANNING: And Other Six-Word Memoirs by Writers Famous and Obscure." i'll also be including a piece of my artwork to go with it. i'm working on a new self portrait right now. hopefully it turns out well enough to submit (see pic above). My six word memoir, for what it's worth (and you who are morbidly curious):

Artist, disabled. Feeling mislabeled. Ambitions tabled.

more later...

i haven't posted anything in quite a while. for various reasons, but mainly due to my health. i just typed out a long post on the CED tribe blog. you can read it here:

tribes.tribe.net/engelmann...55d656636f

in other 'news'.... hmmm... well, there IS no other news. it's amazing how boring my social life has become. the thing is, i don't really miss going out every weekend and getting drunk. it was fun for a while, but detrimental in the long run. though i do not regret it. i had fun and made a lot of casual friends.

hurray for the democrats on november 7th! now let's keep them noses clean, shall we? it shouldn't be TOO hard to live a more ethical life than the common neocon... but money talks. i'd have a hard time choosing to take or leave kickbacks. but in the end i trust myself to do the right thing. for the sake of the u.s.a. the democrats had better, at the VERY least, make some changes in foreign and domestic affairs. the next time i travel to another country i want to be able (AND safely) say i'm american. it's not such a miracle to ask for.
