INVISIBLE CHRONIC ILLNESS WEEK MEME

   Wed, September 2, 2009 - 10:42 AM
We've all seen the list "20 things about me" "50 thing about me you didn't know..." They can actually be interesting if you want to get to know the person better! We'll we've got one I haven't seen anywhere yet, "30 Things About My Invisible Illness You May Not Know."

Just copy and paste it below and put it up on your blog, send it to your friends, paste in on Facebook (if it's too long put it in your "notes" section.)

THEN... post a COMMENT at the Invisible Illness Week web site here with the link to where you posted it and we are going to choose 2 people to receive a prize Sept 5th, 2009.

Let's spread the word about II Week this way and it's a wonderful way to share a little bit about your life. And don't forget to add the last paragraph for people know where to find us!

Want to help us Tweet it? Thanks! Send this!

30 Things About My Invisible Illness You May Not Know

1. The illness I live with is: FMS,CFS,IBS,MPS,CHRONIC MIGRAINE
2. I was diagnosed with it in the year:1998-2007
3. But I had symptoms since:CHILDHOOD
4. The biggest adjustment I’ve had to make is: NOT BEING ABLE TO FINANCIALLY SUPPORT MY FAMILY/GIVING UP HIKING
5. Most people assume:THAT I'M NOT ILL BECAUSE I DON'T LOOK IT AND OFTEN PUSH HARD TO DO EVERYTHING I CAN PHYSICALLY
6. The hardest part about mornings are:THE NAUSEA/FATIGUE/PAIN BEFORE ALL MEDS KICK IN
7. My favorite medical TV show is:NOPE DON'T WATCH THESE
8. A gadget I couldn’t live without is:MY LAPTOP
9. The hardest part about nights are:INSOMNIA, 3-5 TRIPS TO THE BATHROOM, PAIN DREAMS
10. Each day I take __ pills & vitamins. 8-15 (No comments, please)
11. Regarding alternative treatments I: CAN'T YET AFFORD THEM BUT WISH I COULD
12. If I had to choose between an invisible illness or visible I would choose: THE DEVIL I KNOW I GUESS, SO INVISIBLE
13. Regarding working and career:I'M IN THE PROCESS OF LAUNCHING MY OWN COACHING BUSINESS AFTER YEARS OF NOT BEING ABLE TO WORK AND STILL FIGHTING FOR SSI. I HAVE A LOT TO OFFER AND AM TRYING NOT TO BE TERRIFIED OF FAILING DUE TO MY ILLNESSES. I'VE LOST SO MUCH IN THIS AVENUE --
14. People would be surprised to know:I USED TO WORK 50-60 HOURS A WEEK AND LOVED IT, USED TO BE A LICENSED PYROTECHNIC AND LOVED THAT AND THAT I ALWAYS USED TO ESCHEW REGULAR TRAILS TO RUN DEER AND OTHER ANIMAL TRAILS INSTEAD.
15. The hardest thing to accept about my new reality has been: I AM NOT ALWAYS IN CHARGE OF MY OWN BODY. I CAN'T JUST 'PUSH THROUGH' ANYMORE
16. Something I never thought I could do with my illness that I did was:HIKE AGAIN, BUT I'M SLOWLY CHANGING MY MIND AND WILL GET BACK TO THE MOUNTAINS ONE DAY
17. The commercials about my illness:REALLY ANNOY ME, THEY SEEM TO SAY, IF YOU'D JUST TAKE THIS PILL YOU'D BE FINE AND ANYONE NOT TAKING, THAT PILL, IS A LOSER WHO DOESN'T WANT TO TRY.
18. Something I really miss doing since I was diagnosed is: HIKING, RAFTING, CAMPING, WORKING,
19. It was really hard to have to give up:WORKING
20. A new hobby I have taken up since my diagnosis is: BOARD GAMING, CROCHET, COMPUTERING, ANYTHING WHERE I CAN GO LAY DOWN INSTANTLY WHEN I NEED TO
21. If I could have one day of feeling normal again I would:HIKE THE MOUNTAINS OR WALK THE COAST
22. My illness has taught me:PATIENCE, ACCEPTANCE, DEEPER CARING OF OTHERS
23. Want to know a secret? One thing people say that gets under my skin is:HAVE YOU TRIED THE EXTRA STRENGTH "WHICHEVER OTC PAIN MED" AND "OH, I THINK I HAVE FIBROMYALGIA AND/OR CHRONIC FATIGUE BECAUSE I ACHE A BIT AT NIGHT AND/OR GET TIRED SOMETIMES" TIE FOR FIRST PLACE WITH ME
24. But I love it when people:OFFER TO HELP TIDY MY HOUSE OR TO RUN ERRANDS WITH ME WITHOUT JUDGING
25. My favorite motto, scripture, quote that gets me through tough times is: I'D RATHER LIVE IN PAIN AND MERELY EXIST IN PAIN, WHICH IS MY OWN MOTTO, AND THE QUOTE: BLESSED ARE THOSE WHO CAN LAUGH AT THEMSELVES FOR THEY SHALL NEVER CEASE TO BE AMUSED.
26. When someone is diagnosed I’d like to tell them: I'M HERE TO HELP IF YOU NEED ME
27. Something that has surprised me about living with an illness is: I AM TOUGHER THAN I THOUGHT I WAS
28. The nicest thing someone did for me when I wasn’t feeling well was:TIED: OFFERED TO CLEAN MY HOUSE USED TO BE THE ANSWER, BUT RECENTLY A LONG-TERM ONLINE FRIEND SENT MY AN INCREDIBLY GENEROUS FINANCIAL GIFT. IT STILL MAKES ME CRY - IN A GOOD WAY- TO THINK OF IT AND I'M WORKING HARD TO MAKE SURE IT WILL BE WELL USED TO OPEN MY WELLNESS COACHING COMPANY NEXT MONTH WHICH WILL IN TURN ALLOW ME TO HELP OTHERS IN A BIG WAY.
29. I’m involved with Invisible Illness Week because:I HAVE INVISIBLE CHRONIC ILLNESSES AND I WANT OTHERS TO KNOW THEY ARE NOT ALONE -- AND THE NORMALS TO KNOW THAT WE'RE NOT ALL NUTS!
30. The fact that you read this list makes me feel:HONORED THAT YOU WOULD TAKE THE TIME TO LEARN MORE ABOUT ME AND ABOUT HOW INVISIBLE CHRONIC ILLNESSES EFFECT LIVES, MINE AND OTHERS.

Thanks, P
I've copied this into my blog. Let's go on a bender in honor of Invisible Illness week! We could bar limp instead of bar hop.

You're in Oregon, right?
One of these days let's have a crips' night out. Maybe on Fibro Day in May. Since we might've figured out how to budget our mortgage by then and can take a few days to travel:) You're also welcome down here as soon as we get a bed in the guest room.
