When I was mulching my just planted day lilies over the weekend, and pulling up the weeds around them, one of the things I pulled up was a cedar seedling. We've had a cedar tree in the backyard since we moved in 25 or so years ago, and it must have come from there, there aren't many cedars around here and none in the neighborhood besides that one, as far as I know. I felt kind of bad about pulling it up, because it had just settled in and was just trying to make a place for itself, and it see...

There's plenty of time to ponder while mowing the lawn, although my mind wasn't wandering as much as usual today. The daughter of a friend of mine has applied for this job, which is being set up as a kind of contest; it's to go live on the Great Barrier Reef of Australia for a year and blog about it. Great Job! If you haven't applied for it yourself, please view Franny Miller's video and give her a five star vote. She deserves it.

Actually, although I never mention my children or allude to the fact that I am a married father of three (to do so would detract from my ability to troll for babes on the internet), I'm pretty proud of being not a complete failure as a father. Today at the UU church my youngest daughter (24) and I performed a duet, "Teach Your Children" with me on guitar and vocals and my daughter singing along, doing the difficult bits. It went pretty well. Then we went out on a canoe trip on the Tippec...

I took a day off from work and went hiking with Janice and Anna at Turkey Run State Park, one of Indiana's prettier state parks. It was about 86F and relative humidity also in the 80's, so pretty warm for a hike, but not so bad in the canyons and under the trees. We took marco polo and callie (anna's dog) with us. one of the best trails was too muddy to manage, so we took a couple of shorter trails, and had a good walk. Janice seems to have shaken the worst of her asthma now, no inhaler...
