stuff i've been noodling

we are the ones who wander. some of us say "all who wander are not lost" but we are. we are lost in a world in which we cannot find a home. we always know where we are, occasionally where we are going next. but not how to find home other than within ourselves. we are alone. though we number many, we are all alone. all one. we abandon our families and our childhoods. we leave behind friends and residences. we shed possessions like they don't matter. they don't matter. we know that only change ... read more

also known as t-ray, tree-ray, t-ronimo, t-riffic, and tres magnifique. and arthur louis hayworth the 3rd (but you didn't like that one and i just heard about it today).

little buddy, i quickly grew a deep affection for you. you were one of the most jubilant and positive people i've ever met that i didn't want to shoot in the face. your joy was infectious and you were such a gift to the hostel and to my life. the amazing meals you cooked that everyone raved about, the health and nutrition ... read more

on sunday, a young man drowned in the lake at the hostel. his name is marquis manuel, and he was 24 years old. according to his friends, who are so many, he was an incredibly spiritual and beloved friend, a skilled and awarded culinary chef, and unfortunately a weak swimmer. it was the first time here for both him and his girlfriend, and they were here barely a half hour before heading out to the lake. i got a chance to shake his hand, smile and look him in the eyes. that was all.

i'd rath... read more

today marks five months i've been down here, running the hostel in the forest. it's been truly amazing. the last few years have felt like my life has been on hold, in a sense, like there's some greater purpose i'm to accomplish. the doom metal band in asheville was an incredible set of experiences, but my surrounding life still lacked something. here i feel much closer to something, some centerpoint i've wanted my life to revolve around for a long time.

i'm clear that this is how i want to... read more

every one of my friends is unique and an amazing person. i'm really lucky to know all of these people who aren't like anyone else i know, other than the love we share. but even that is different from friend to friend. i love each of you in a special (not retarded (well maybe)) way.

you're all so fucking cool.

thank you.

(p.s. do me a favor though and don't write a bunch of crap about how i'm cool too. i already know that. let this be about you.)

:p
