Parris: There is no one I would rather have my back in a boarding party
February 28, 2007
Parris is the rarest of creatures: a bird person who's not insane! Touched just enough to be interestign and different (and one must be touched to devote oneself those particular pets).

A good sounding board, a welcome perspective, a laugh out loud, and one hell of a piratess! Also, a pionus-owner... a default wonderful quality in my book.

Soon, I will make my way to San Francisco. A priority in my schedule will be a nice picnic together on Telegraph Hill, where we can be amazed and get all dorky-emotional over its residents.

Re: Macaw breeding question (in Owned By Parrots) Zouma my lovebird lays about an egg every month and a half - I have tried just about everything short of putting her in a straight jacket over it. Only problem is that if she can't shred paper to make nest with, she will turn to her feathers....so... read more

Free Music! (blog entry) Ok -

On the Horizon

Things next to do towards the end of 2009:
1. Got to Babyland and Caustic show tonight and see metal get beat and sparks fly.
2. Get ready for the Handcar Regatta at end of month.
3. Prepare to run off and get married in Nevada City, then come home to celebrate..(hell yeah)
4. Get costume ready to sling drinks at Dickens again this year and be with my second family.
5. Change passport information so that we can get ready to honeymoon in Costa Rica in May.
6. Enjoy that things are finally looking up this year.

Random Observation:
One must take caution in coffee houses not to ruffle the feathers of the silent readers.
Perched like upstart pigeons (attempting to look more upper crust than those slate grey colors they wear),
working furiously over the next days spreadsheets or Sodoku (because their boss thinks it improves the "Brain Muscle").
Their faces are puckered into a sour beak - knowing that all this is never for pleasure, only business. Even their half-caf, soy latte tastes like shit, but it's to keep their figure.
They never appreciate those who come here for fun.

Things Overheard in the Apple Barrell

Things Not Commonly Heard in Polite Converstation Unless You Hang Around With Me:

"Shit! I gotta go, the pumkin is boiling over!"

"Hmmm. the Last Frustrations of a Geriatric Hippo."

"I mean, you're right, dairy can't be good for Boo....he doesn't have boobs."

"Where'd she go?" "Into the scrub with a bottle of red, looking for Toads."

"I got me a hammer right here that sez it fits."

"If I had a hundred dollars for every time....wait no...then I'd be a hundredaire....wait no nevermind..."

"It's a good thing men don't have their genitals on their hands - that would put an end to the manly high-five as we know it."

"Stop staring at me with your evil laughy eyes! I can't drink my tea! You're doing it on purpose!"

"Oh-oh here come the Danger Sisters....their first, middle and last names are all Danger....Danger, Danger, Danger!"

"I don't know, someone just crammed these flowers down my chest."

Mmmm....Puddis....it's when Tapioca meets a Guiness floater!

Rum-Tubbin': (Otherwise known as RT) When giant quantities of rum are ingested by patrons who are partially submersed in a jaccuzzi. Fun & Hilarity generally ensues. RT-ing is often thought of as a good way for all Pirate crews to relax.

"Sure me and my wife are into S&M. She sleeps while I masturbate."

"It's funny, normally you should stay away from anything with the prefix of hot & buttered; but with rum, it kinda makes sense."

Patron:"Don't you just wish it were just like victorian times all the time?"
Me:"Oh yeah,of course I do, but wihtout the consumption, rabid starvation & disease, gout, pox or unhealthy working and living conditions, sure....."

"Uh-oh Pistachio."

"Sooner or later, I knew that you'd come around to loving chickens like dogs."

Captain's Log

So I now realize that I have to succumb to a greater and more insidious power than I could have ever imagined.
That power has a name, and it's name is: knitting.
Ok laugh if you will, but I'm serious. I decided to take it up to try a few projects here and there - who doesn't want a pair of neat fingerless gloves or a nice head kerchief I asked myself. I can stop anytime I want. (sure)...

Well, it's gotten out of hand...or rather gotten into my hands. I just finished my last project of ... read more

I have to say that they are my favorite industrial band out there and in an atmosphere where many good industrial bands have gone by the wayside, they are still touring.
Sean pointed out yesterday that there's pretty much not a single day that goes by without some 16 Volt being played in the house, and well, it's true.
If you haven't heard of the... read more

What would you do if you are faced with the horrible thought that you might soon be losing the two most important figures in your family, your mother and your sister?

I've been wrestling with this idea the last 3 days and have gone the gamut from crying, losing my shit and trying to take it all in and be hopeful and flexible to see how things turn out. Needless it say all that thinking and attempting to be cool with the cards that life has dealt us has put me in a rather dark mood. Macu ... read more

Sometimes the wisdom of a 4 year old is more Zen than I could ever be.
Looking at the stars, telling her to make a wish she thinks, says:
"I wish dogs could speak like people and momma gets better soon."
Certainly two very important things for a four year old who's mother isn't doing too well and her only sibling is a dog.

Then she asks why there's only one star she can see out tonight. I tell her it's because the clouds are covering most of them up so we can't see them. She then looks ... read more

So Sean was searching on yelp for some alternative cuisine around Santa Rosa when we came across a Dim Sum restaurant…yeah…I’m serious.
So I look at him and he looks at me and we figure why not?
At first you might not think this a huge leap of faith – but bear in mind the story that my mom tells when you mention Dim Sum: She saw chicken feet on the menu and thought it to be and Engrish version of chicken legs or drumsticks…that sounds reasonable, certainly…until a heaping plate of deep fri... read more
