This is somewhat of a repeat of GuessWhoMockingbird's blog, I just want to pass something on.

I was just talking today that there is no way we can know what goes on in every product we buy, but I try my best to move through life without contributing to the most aggregious of the trespassers on human rights.

I must confess that I am adicted to soda, the caffeine, the bubbles, I crave it. On reading Guess' blog, I am disheartened to discover, though not surprised, that the maker of a couple of the drinks that I prefer, is not being excellent to its people.

I guess it is a way to kill two birds with one stone. Giving it up would make me more physically and spiritually healthy.

That's lame. I believe in trying to be an ethical consumer, but it's so HARD to do everything right nowadays. As soon as you switch some small manufacturer's natural co-op sold soda, you'll find out something comparably evil about *them*. It's endless. Of course I'm not saying that you should ignore these things, but please be kind enough to yourself not go batty about it. When I was Vegan for a year or so, I think that I almost made my tiny brain explode reading every label, and asking every restaurant about every item that I ordered, etc..

<hugs you>

Here...have a cup of Fair Trade Darjeeling ; ).

I made the switch to iced tea only about a year ago. I lost 10 lbs and feel a lot better. Many of the ingredients in soda are not only harmful to your body, but incredibly addictive. And I'm not just talking about the caffeine. I couldn't do anything without my little xyanthine friend, but I did cut out High Fructose Corn Syrups and Aspartame and try to stay away from Benzoates and Chlorides.
My latest pet peeve is Diet Coke Plus - WITH VITAMINS AND MINERALS.
The fact that a soda company can consider marketing and manufacturing something so INNANELY horrible, which obviously takes advantage of the stupidity of the average consumer... as well as the fact that people actually buy it and think that somehow drinking a "fortified" brown aspartame soup... will help them be more healthy? Seriously. Upsetting.

Yeah...vits&mins...silly
The issue also lies in the fact that we only know a small amount of these micro-nutrients and we don't exactly deliver them in absorbable vectors when we 'enhance' our food with them.

It's actually the bubbles I am attached to. I can easilt get my caffeine from something else and can wean myself from the sugars. The strange thing is that I get to this point of thinking that since the coke and the soda water are about the same and the soda water has no caffeine, then the smarter buy is the diet coke. I know 'dumb-da-dumb-dumb-dumb'.

It will be much easier now to not drink it though.

I know, it's rough. At my office, they provide an endless supply of free soda in a variety of flavors so it's been difficult to give it up. They only order a tiny amount of teas and Hansons sodas (www.hansens.com/products/products.php so I have to use every ounce of willpower I have to only drink water on the days they run out.

It's at the point that I need to go buy my own special sodas and bring them in for personal use... when I asked the ordering gal if we could get a larger percent of the healthier stuff she just shrugged and said the Coke and Pepsi products were cheaper.

I've recently transferred my soda addiciton to fruit nectars, especially banana (www.foodlocker.com/63242-5.html) which is sold at the local Famer Joe's. YUM!

Here's a little trick.

Whenever changing the amount of something like sugar, fat or salt in their diet a lot of people try to cut down on it out slowly. This results in a feeling of deprivation and rarely results in a long term change.

Instead, cut it out entirely for a week our so and then reintroduce it slowly. Most people will find they are satisfied with a fraction of their previous intake without feeling deprived.

Thanks for the advice Swarm
I'm actually very familiar with diet, habits, effectiveness. I was just being lazy. I'm off now and don't really feel too much lack.
