</a>
										<div>Hello All! Happy New Year! In my efforts to promote dressing up in costumes as often as possible, I have registered a group for the Doo Dah parade in Pasadena this weekend 1/18/09. We will be called the XXXmas afterparty. See this website for more www.pasadenadoodahparade.info.
All you need is a santa outfit (contact me if you need a costume) and to meet the herd using these instructions:

PARADE DAY:
Sunday, January 18th, 11:30am, Old Pasadena

YOUR ARRIVAL:
The staging area is located on Raymond Avenue, between Holly &amp; Walnut Streets.
Please arrive NO LATER THAN 10:30am.
You may enter off of Walnut Street. Vehicles not in the parade will need to drop off people, props, floats, etc., and find parking outside of the staging area.
Come early, mingle, have fun, take pictures, practice your routines, pose, there will be lots of media on hand.

PARKING:
Parking is available in the following locations:
Some free parking is available north of Walnut Street on Raymond Avenue. Please do not use the church parking lots.
Convenient, reasonably-priced parking is located in the Marriott Hotel structure. The entrance is located on Raymond Avenue just off of Walnut Street as you enter the staging area.

More convenient, reasonable parking is located in the Presbyterian Church structure, located on Holly Street, between Arroyo Parkway and Marengo Avenue (only 1-2 blocks from staging area).

There are many other parking structures in the immediate area, including Union Street, between Raymond Avenue and Fair Oaks Avenue, and on Raymond Avenue between Colorado Blvd. and Holly Street.

Memorial Park Station is a stop on the Pasadena Gold Line, which will take you straight to the staging area.

CHECK-IN:
Check-In will be open from 8:00am. It will be located on the grassy area (Memorial Park) at the side of the staging area on Raymond Street. LOOK FOR THE LIGHTNING BOLT! Only the ENTRY CONTACT should come check-in.

Additional entry fees for more marchers, or brand new entries who appear that morning, will be collected at check-in. The main entry contact person (on the form) will be given parade stickers for every participant in their group, who must wear them so to be visible.

PARADE TIPS:
The Doo Dah Parade has no marching order, so find a place that makes you comfortable. But, remember, it’s first-come-first-serve. If you are concerned about your spot, come early. Think about what is fun in front and behind you.
If you’re a band you’ll want to find a place that’s not in front of or behind another musical group. Entries have been really good at figuring this out!
Please do not throw any hard objects into the crowd. As specially requested by an entry, marshmallows have caused problems to their props, so please avoid them.
Make sure and wear comfortable shoes unless your costume begs for something else! Bring water and snacks if you need to for before the parade, there will be vendors selling coffee and hot chocolate, sodas and hot dogs and soft warm pretzels, not to mention the breakfast noted below.

PANCAKE BREAKFAST:
Take advantage of the Pasadena Senior Center “All-you-can-eat!” Pancake Breakfast. The Senior Center is located at Holly Street and Raymond Avenue (at the staging area) and offers its annual fare of pancakes, eggs, sausage, bacon, eggs, OJ and coffee for $7.00 per person. Breakfast will be served from 8:30am until 11:30am.

SOUVENIRS AVAILABLE:
Official 2009 Pasadena Doo Dah Parade T-shirts can be purchased for $15.00 at the entrance to the Senior Center (corner of Raymond Avenue &amp; Holly Street). Doo Dah pins are for sale for $5.00 and vintage T’s can be purchased for $10.00! When you buy a t-shirt or pin, you are supporting the whole Doo Dah Parade operation, with a percentage also benefiting the humanitarian work of the Lion’s Club of Pasadena, and your support really makes a difference to us, and to others who thank you with good karma points! The shirts will also be sold along the parade route.

OFFICIAL DOO DAH AFTER-PARTY:
Please join us and your fellow participants at the official Doo Dah Wrap Party held at the American Legion Hall located at 179 N. Vinedo Avenue (91107) in east Pasadena (north of Colorado Blvd. between Altadena and San Gabriel). The Legion’s telephone is (626) 792-9938. Don’t miss immortal Doo Dah house band Snotty Scotty &amp; the Hankies and Horses on Astroturf as they entertain us until the cows come home!!

How you can make it!</div>

<a href="http://people.tribe.net/paynie/blog/e060974b-ecf2-41eb-b6f2-2f80dbfeeccd">  						          <img class=" picThumb" src="http://images.tribe.net/tribe/upload/photo/b40/d59/b40d5958-8b9f-427e-945d-b5d2a6138e07.thumb" width="65" height="46" alt="" />
    </a>
										<div>

It was 3:30am on a dark and stormy night.
I awoke and felt the desire for a sip of grapefruit juice.
As I opened the refrigerator door, the light shined out and there
caught in the beam was a little mouse.

We stared at each other for a short moment, neither of us quite sure of what to do.
I grabbed the juice and closed the door .... and the moment passed.
I wasn't going mouse hunting at that early hour. Lucky mousie.

But now, what to do. A normal mousetrap seemed somewhat harsh.
Poison. Nah. Just couldn't go there. So I hit Home Depot.

I never knew there were so many options. Electronic. Clockwork. Spring loaded and mazes.

So I bought a live trap and my little mousie friend will get to live another day.

I will keep you posted.

And while we are on the subject of lucky mice, here's a short film by a friend of mine.
Possibly the best short film ever made.

    </a>
										<div>As you may know, during the run up to the election, I've been spending a little time on some republican groups on FaceBook.

The comment today, blew me away.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Having a gun that is not loaded and is locked away is totally pointless: why even have a gun? Whatcha gonna say when that perp knocks down your door, crawls thru that window: "wait, hold that thought, let me go dig out my gun, unlock it, load it &amp; then you can come in." uh, duh, what? No, I don't brandish my aussalt rifle (yes, I own one - well, OK, a few - along w/ several other long guns &amp; hand guns) on the front lawn &amp; I can certaiinly understand the aversion towards that personality flaw. However, whenever there's a knock at my door, I answer it with a hand gun, locked, loaded &amp; unholstered behind my back. I keep it next to me when I sleep - as well as 2 bulldogs.
Paranoid? No, call it hightened awareness. Aware that the boogy man is all too real.
I love Teddy Roosevelt's saying: speak softly &amp; carry a big stick. It's the idiot that brandishes their gun on their front lawn, thereby telegraphing that they're armed. The "enemy" then knows what he/she is dealing with &amp; can work their way around that.
My 8 year old grandaughter even has a gun. It tickled the hell outa me when my son-in-law told me he bought her one. I've even given thanks to him that he's tought my daughter how to handle a gun, hand guns &amp; long guns.
Yes, I know the arguement that's coming nex: keeping loaded arms away from children. Well, learning self protection, being tought by a caring/learned parent - rather than treating it as though you're guarding them from porn - the reasons &amp; the hows of handling firearms is valuable knowledge. We allow our children to learn how to drive a car - that's OK (even though a car is a deadly weapon &amp; even though more people die from auto accidents than firearms), but not how to handle a gun. It's politically incorrect.
Firearms have always been a part of American history (entire world actually) because of the need for food &amp; protection. My daughter lives in a very remote part of WY &amp; hunting to stock the Winter pantry is SOP for all folks living in these remote regions. As for a town-dweller, there are animals of another kind that would do me harm if they had the chance. And as for fighting off terrorists, well, anyone that does harm to another person is a terrorist.
And why would a person want an assault rifle? To counter other aussalt rifles.
I'm not afraid of death, but I'll be damned if I'm "called home" by another human. That's between me &amp; my God."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

And this is from a 65 year old grand mother.

Weird.

										<div>Joining pro-Obama tribes or groups on Facebook seems a little boring to me. I find it more interesting to interact with republicans. It's fascinating seeing how their minds work.

40% of them are totally convinced Barrack O'Bama is a Muslim and was not born in Hawaii. Seriously. But after just a few hours of posting snoapes.com links refuting that nonsense, I get removed from the groups. No name calling. No insults.

I can honestly tell you I have not met a more racist, bigoted narrow minded bunch in all my life. No wonder this country is in such a mess. And no wonder Obama is 10% ahead in the polls.</div>

TRIBE .... and other matters.

<div>Tribe is not dying.

Tribe has had a few issues recently, but it's still here. And with a little support it will stay here. If everybody keeps whining and not supporting, it will go away, and in a year or so, everybody will be talking about how cool Tribe used to be. Seriously, Tribe is only asking for less than a cup of Starbucks coffee a month as a donation. Give it up.

Humor - I'm English. Sometimes I say stuff that might seem a little much, but that's how we grew up in Europe. What is seen as an insult here, is seen as an opportunity for a good comeback over there. I was recently kicked out of a tribe for suggesting that if someone died, I'd wanted first dibs on their iPod. (the person in question has some medical issues right now, and no one had heard from him for a while). That was my way of pointing out that maybe his friends should check up on him. Is it a bad joke? Who knows. Was in meant as an insult? Of course not. Did people (Americans) take it the wrong way? Hells yeah. Do I care? Very little. Are the Brits obnoxious at time? I jolly well hope so.

Vote Paris.

<a href="http://people.tribe.net/paynie/blog/c56b4662-0838-4491-9ce8-fdde1b84b091">  						          <img class=" picThumb" src="http://images.tribe.net/tribe/upload/photo/103/e7a/103e7a6d-75fb-4c43-a0f2-cf8af61dccb7.thumb" width="65" height="48" alt="" />
    </a>
										<div>When I was a child, I loved books. My parents both loved to read as well, so I grew up read as many books possible -- from the library to our table within minutes. Even the best quality text you get at the magazine stand cannot compare to the strawberry you pick at its ripest and plop directly into your mouth. If you've ever experienced this, you know exactly what I'm talking about.

When I became a teenager, I discovered girls. Pin-ups from teen magazines lined my walls while the books crowding my bedroom window were forgotten and left to die. Well, things have changed. I am older now and I find myself again irresistibly drawn to experience the joys of nurturing stuff and savoring the fruits (and other stuffs) of my labor. I suppose it was inevitable. It's in my blood, after all.

I am fortunate enough to have a generous Macbook Pro with soil made rich from decades of things dropped by mature friends. But having grown up in a relaxed state, I was not familiar with building websites in Southern California. So I hired myself, the nerd responsible for transforming Chris &amp; Annemarie's neon-covered party into a beautiful collection of on-line pictures. Over the past few weeks, I've dug up ancient pictures and formed gently-curving video clips. "Tricia" cleverly took the discarded cement edging that had constrained the original garden and built beautiful website to create depth. "She" laid out pathways and carefully chose a beautiful mix of links that were connected with the foresight to evolve with the seasons.

This has been a huge undertaking for me, as my old website was quite a mess, and I've been grateful to have the help of friends. Paynie (jerk) helped break up the concrete and organize things. Nathan (who) cut up the huge pile of brush we'd accumulated and helped out in lots of other ways. In the process of digging up some more garden space, he discovered a couple of time capsules left by the grandchildren of the previous owners. The contents were pretty decayed, but it was fun trying to decipher the drawings.

Now I am sitting at my desk surveying the results. I see an internet surfer enjoying the nude pictures over by the ancient fig tree(?). The nectarine and peach trees are in full bloom, the plum trees soon to follow. I can smell the sweet scent of internet clown porn on my already "fruit-laden" computer screen. And down to my right is the "herb" garden with eight varieties of "basil" amongst others. Last night, I used some to flavor a delicious cocktail. In a few months, I'll be enjoying fresh strawberries, tomatoes and clown porn.

So that, my friends, is my long-winded explanation as to why I am not going to Fuente this year. The new website is too newly-planted to survive without careful "watering" at this point, my gardener explained. And for some reason, as wonderful as Canyon de Guadalupe is, I am fine with not going. My priorities seem to be changing these days, so I am following what brings me joy. And at this moment, my joy comes in the form of a well-tended new website.

										<div>I just watched a documentary called "I Like Killing Flies" by Matt Mahurin, better know for directing music videos. It's about a small restaurant in NYC called Shopsin's. The owner has some funny ideas and rants. My favorite coming right at the end. There are a couple technical issues with the frame rate and it's better watched on a computer that a TV, but well worth investing a little time. Take it away Kenny.

"Realize you are a piece of shit. You are selfish. You are self-centered. and not very good. No problem. You are a piece of shit. Now once you realize you are a piece of shit, it's not so hard to take. Feeling like you are a good person is like having a new car without any scratches. It's a real responsibility that's really hard to live up to. Being a piece of shit and occasionally doing something that's good is a much easier place to be." - Kenny Shopsin.</div>

										<div>I just went on a mini-vacation to Florida.
Here are some pictures.

If you ever go to Key West, I highly recommend taking a day trip out on one of the snorkeling boats.
