Pete is so cool that he can make up lyrics to a song while drunk, but really poorly! Pete is so cool that he showed up to a party late because he was roleplaying. Pete is so cool that we can both harmonize when we chant because we both used to be band geeks! Pete is so cool that I am getting a ride to the train station down to Los Angeles so that I can meet up with people who can drive me to Napa to come and visit him because he won't be making to to So Cal any time soon! Goddamit! I haven't seen this man in so long! I love San Pedro. He and I have always had these really intense conversations with eachother and I've always savored every word. Such an awesome spirit!

There are a lot of people that inspire me. Some inspire me to adventure and exploration. Some inspire me to be more than I am. Some to be more creative. Others to be more loving. Or giving.

San Pedro is in every one of those categories by how he expresses himself personally and in his creative endeavours -- especially in his writing.

If I hadn't met him, I would be less of the person I strive to be.

That said, he's quirky, hella funny and he's got a Universe-sized heart of gold!

(And I'm jealous 'cause he's thin like a STICK. Aaaaarrggh!)

The legend of Peter Martin, Part II.

Before meeting Peter, I believed that the “broody, tortured artistic genius soul” was just a pretentious, insincere image and a myth. I would thoughtlessly poke at posers with the irony stick to see if their souls bled. Peter was the first one ever to laugh.

It was true. Peter was part of the rival gang. I remember when I first saw him; we were sitting on the rattan, when the Abercrombie Finch crew rolled in easily enthralling and captivating the other backpackers with accounts of their adventures. We warily eaves dropped as they shared their…“stories”.

We became envious of their ways so we started to make fun of the easiest target and the way he spoke. Peter spoke in a very Hemingway-esque kind of way and I …I wanted to poke him.

The weeks passed in this sleepy little emotional black hole of a village called Pai and one night we were among a crowd on the lower floor of a pub. I was bored out of my mind and contemplating escape from this village when I suddenly felt my imagined nemesis was somewhere nearby. Nervously, I looked around me and when I finally looked up, he was quietly squinting down at me from the upper floor balcony with a Chang in hand. He appeared to be feeling the same restlessness and distain for the naive and thoughtlessness that surrounded us. He nodded without smiling and acknowledged me.

Since then, he has become my best friend in la-la land and thanks to Peter, I have learned to respect the legend of the “Artist”.

The fact that I've known San Pedro since we were both itty-bitty snots should add gravitas to this here evaluation. I will testify, under oath, that this bitch has more potential genius per pound than a tanker-truck full of Einstein's sperm. He has so much residual talent that you can smell it seeping from his pores.

He is the true bastard child of verity and metaphor, orphaned by volition at an early age, adopted by two awesome parents and a righteously introspective brother.

San Pedro Voracio Martin, master of verisimulatude and pontification, chained by habit to the oyster that is his world.

Incidentally some of the best times of my life have been a byproduct of his presence. Get him drunk and he'll improv Tom Waits for you and strip on a grand piano. Give him t2 and he'll turn into a blind sea-captain. Take him to Thailand and he'll skip down the streets of Bangkok with you, eating ice-cream.

Talk to him for ten minutes, and you'll know that odor is pure quality. This man has one of the sexiest minds on the continent.

San Pedro plays "very well" with others and brings out the best in all the other children. He excels in art, is attentive in class and respects naptime.

At times San Pedro does become a little frightened due to his sensitivity to his environment. This does not worry us.

I suggest strongly that he does not be placed in a cubicles and is further encouraged in his higher pursuits.

It is a pleasure to have him at our school.

San Pedro is cool. San Pedro is my friend. He is tough enough to drink dollar store coffee and light hearted enough to smile about it. And then when he gets the runs, I fix him and then he smiles about that too. He is a master at not taking life too seriously. He can make anything seem funny-from bullies to belly buttons. This man cracks me up on a regular basis. He is one of a very small handful of people who is able to make me laugh at myself. He is also a loyal friend, one who would follow you into the Thar desert, a mere 30 miles from the Pakistani border, riding atop a stinky camel, for 3 solid days, subsisting on just water and thin chapatis.. not that i would know..

He is an awesome human bieng. friends are fine, but real friends will tell you the truth, out of love. Honest feedback is the best gift anyone can give you, for it is those brave comments that so help one learn and grow. its an honor and a pleasure to stand in the ranks of his friends.

I've known this son of a bitch since we were in diapers. Let me just say that this is one quality human being. He somehow has found that zen that allows him to walk the line between remembering to really value life and the decisions that need to be made, but also knows when to fart if people are getting too damn serious. He is a good man, a loyal friend, a stout traveling companion, and a wise philisophir. All that and he looks dead sexy with a ciggerette hanging out of his mouth.
