Cat's the hottest girl that I've ever totally geeked out with. She can hold her own with the dorkiest of the dorks, lemme tell ya! If a girl can verbally arm wrestle a guy with tales of Forgotten Realms and Dragonlance, you know you've got a winner.

Look out for this one dorks! She's on a mission. She's the Goddess of "Magic" of the OrangeKids. Hell, I'd pray to you for spells if I thought it would do any good! ;o)

Thanks for kicking so much ass and rocking out all the time. You're a blast to hang out with and your energy rubs off on everyone within 2 miles of ya.

Luv ya!

Muah,
Wonder

My livejournal feed is back to normal. I can now safely say that the posts on this page are representative of the current embodiment of the continually shifting entity that is Cat. Or at least as representative as blog posts can be.

So, Live Journal had a giant hiccup and now posts that I made in 2003 are cluttering friends pages on LJ and have taken up residency on my Tribe page. Please disregard the banal ramblings of 19 year old Cat. Back to your regularly scheduled programming!

Since some of you have been curious about the paper I mentioned earlier, I decided to post it in my blog. I haven't figured out how to create links (grumbles about sites that don't allow regular HTML), so please click below if you feel like reading it.

I am SO GLAD I found this! It's a website which succinctly describes a lot of the personalities that hang out in online forums. I was introduced to the Flame Warriors years ago and forgot all about it until a friend recently got flamed in an LJ community. I decided the site hunt it down, and my search was successful. I am so grateful for those human testers over at Google!

Now go forth and laugh!

Brad was playing Halo 3 last night on XBox Live, and 3 people in the same game has the following names:

N1ppl3K1ll

HappyHerpies

wetdreamer88

I asked, "What is wrong with these people?" and Brad's response was, "They play Halo".

I don't play on XBox Live because I don't like getting serially pwned by 14 year olds, but I have sat through a lot of games. Here I thought that all Live accounts had to do with weed.

So, I was watching original Star Trek, "Mirror Mirror" to be precise, and it got me to thinking. In this episode, in the alternate universe, there is a beautiful woman who serves as the "captain's woman". I assume her subservience was designed to make people squick at some level, as she existed within the negatively portrayed, evil, and backwards universe.

At one moment, she sat down on a desk and I noticed that a fold in her stomach appeared. I noticed this immediately. The beautiful women portrayed now on television would not have such a fold, otherwise I would not have batted an eye. Women I currently see on television are artificially enhanced. But the woman on Star Trek, however unrepresentative of women on average in the United States, was at least real. A completely real woman was seen as beautiful. In today's society, even the most beautiful women by society's standards are incapable of being good enough to be considered worthy of being broadcast to the public without some augmentation. And it made me wonder, if this is not the way it has always been, when did we as a society decide to do this to ourselves? When did we decide to do this to our women? When did we decide that no woman, as she was, could be beautiful?

I have heard many women complain about the sexism of Star Trek the original series. The women had to wear a different uniform that flaunted their sexuality, and they had positions that were not as powerful as the men on the ship. It was perfectly acceptable for a male captain to interact on a sexual level with his female officers. But at least this was an overt form of sexism, and therefore a harmless one. I can see it now and decide to dismiss it. But what of the insidious arm of the patriarchy that systematically prevents America's young women from seeing a real, unedited woman portrayed as beautiful in mainstream media? Where on television or in print are the strong women bearing themselves as they are, without having to choose between the power of their sexuality or the power of their intellect? Why is the sexism that drives women to eating disorders and self destruction not met without outrage but acceptance, and the drinking in of the self loathing that causes us to push our bodies to the point of breaking?

This is the sexism that terrifies me. It rattles me to my bones. And just like the wind, I cannot see it or touch it. I know it by its howl.

Ben just gave me the best compliment today:

"Cat is like Data, with human emotions."

I shall carry this with me always.

What I want to know is . . . What is the best compliment you've ever received? And if you feel like elaborating, why?
