Pink Balloons

April 1, 2008
i love this one with all my heart, i really really do.

she embodies the true meaning of friendship, which is reciprocity. she's seen me through tears of laughter and tears of sadness, and her bright spirit is there consistently for it all. she's my favorite snugglebunny, my confidant, and my partner in crime. i'm proud to say that i'm now fluent in pink, and can understand even her fastest flurries of excited conversation, no matter what the pitch or level of squirrelness. she gets me and makes me laugh like no one else, and i love that i am always comfortable being myself around her. i never thought i would have a girlfriend like her. i love her, i love being in her life, and i love having her in mine.

plus, the girl keeps chocolate dairy-free ice cream in her freezer for me, we share books, AND we wear the same size shoe. it doesn't get much better than that.

My love is like a pink, pink rose. She is bright, shiny, and sparkly both in personality and desire. I have met few people on this earth as wise, grounded, and mature for her years as my Pink, yet she vigorously maintains her unabashed youthful enthusiasm, joy, happiness, and passion for creative discovery. She is a rare breed, that combines beauty, brains, and charm in equal measure with warmth, compassion, and consideration for others wrapped in a delightful attitude and positive demeanor. She is a good heart, pure soul, true friend, and one-in-a-million. I could die in peace tomorrow, fulfilled, knowing that I had met her.

Shiny Thoughts...

Peanut Butter Kiss,

weighing in at less then a pound, I picked her up yesterday morning.

Already a mommas girl, she follows me around the house and loves to snuggle.

The picture is her snuggling with my foot, just to give you an idea on her size...

She is currently sleeping next to me while I play on tribe, and I couldn't be more in love.

Special apologies too: Miss Pink, Kurt, and Cailin and Dave for not stopping by. We were TIRED, and I just wanted to be home with my new girl.

The Wonderment of the Color Pink

~“Almost all words do have color and nothing is more pleasant than to utter a pink word and see someone's eyes light up and know it is a pink word for him or her too” -Gladys Taber

~Pink is a color often made by mixing red and white. It can be described as a light red, but it is more accurately a bright, undersaturated red. Pink can also be used to describe other colors. The term Pink may be used in general to describe a wide range of light orange, light red, light rose, and light magenta colors.

~The use of the word "Pink" for colour first occurred in the 17th century to describe the light red flowers of pinks, flowering plants in the genus Dianthus.

~Pink is used to describe a range of colors, from shades of red to the more popularly used shades comprised of both red and purple.

~Pink can mean the scarlet coat worn in fox hunting (a.k.a. "riding to hounds"). One legend about the origin of this meaning refers to a tailor named Pink (or Pinke, or Pinque).

~The leader in the Giro d'Italia cycle race wears a pink jersey (maglia rosa); this reflects the distinctive pink-colored newsprint of the sponsoring Italian La Gazzetta dello Sport newspaper.

~Similarly, the London Financial Times newspaper has, since 1893, used a distinctive salmon pink color for its newsprint, mainly as a way to distinguish itself from competitors. In other countries, the salmon press identifies economic newspapers or economics sections in "white" newspapers.

~Pink, along with red, is traditionally used on maps for territory ruled by the British Empire or for members of the Commonwealth of Nations.

~Pink, being a 'watered-down' red, is sometimes used in a derogatory way to describe a person with mild communist or socialist beliefs (see Pinko).

~In maps of political parties in Portugal, pink is used to represent the Socialist Party.

~"Paint the Town Pink" a phrase that arose in the 1950s reflecting its influence on fashion and design and the popularity of pastel colours.

~The Chicago Transit Authority recently debuted the Pink Line light rail service.

~The color pink is now associated with womanhood and little girls, just like light blue is associated with little boys and manhood. However, in 1918 "Infant's Department" (an industry publication) said the reverse was the "generally accepted rule", describing pink as "more decided and stronger" while blue was "more delicate and dainty" [1]. Pink continued to be used for both boys' and girls' clothing through the early 1960s, though it is becoming more and more associated with femininity.

~Pink is also the signature color for Elle from the Legally Blonde movie series.

~The color pink also has an association with female genitalia. Used as a slang term to refer to female genitalia.

~Pink is the color of the Breast Cancer Awareness ribbon. Pink was chosen partially because it is so strongly associated with femininity.

~Some feminists have decried the color pink, along with dresses and skirts, as something related to the pre-feminism "old-style female", which they view as a symbol of the oppression and limitations of that era. Although this trend persists, the current wave of feminism advocates choice, and many women have sought to reclaim aspects of the old-style female, including pink (and indeed dresses and skirts), as something to be proud of. For example, the Swedish radical feminist party Feminist Initiative uses pink as its colour.

~Pink is also associated with gays, lesbians, and bisexuals, often in the form of a pink triangle. This symbolic usage stems from the symbols used by the Nazis to label their prisoners in the concentration camps. Where Jews were forced to wear the familiar yellow stars of David, and Roma people were forced to wear a black triangle; men imprisoned on accusations of homosexuality or same-sex sexual activity were forced to wear a pink triangle. Nowadays, it is often worn with pride.

~In business, the pink pound or pink dollar refers to the spending power of the GLBT community. Advertising agencies call the gay market the Pink Economy.

~The city of Jaipur City is a foremost tourist attraction in India because of its superlative forts, grandiose palaces, vivacious temples, multicolored bazaars, pulsating streets and its distinguished pink color to which the city owes its oft-used name 'The Pink City'. This illustrious pink color symbolizes 'welcome' and was embraced during the times of the ruler Ram Singh II when he expected the Prince of Wales in 1876. The color was selected after several experiments to cut down the severe glare from the reflection of the glowing rays of the sun. Today, every home in the old city is obliged by law to maintain this distinctiveness of the city.

~There is a magazine called Pink for the GLBT community which has different editions for various metropolitan areas.

~In 1993, artist Gioia Fonda created a conceptual piece in the form of a week long holiday called "pink week". The intention of pink week is to liberate the color pink from all dogma and simply celebrate the color pink as a color.

~Despite all this, pink is gradually becoming an accepted colour for men to wear, albeit only ironically (ie., a tough person may be seen to be wearing pink simply because the colour is ironic and clashes with his personality)

~In Spanish, a novela rosa ("pink novel") is a sentimental novel aiming to women, in which a heroine lives a passionate love.

~"Pink" is a line of loungeware clothing carried by Victoria's Secret.

~Tickled pink: to be happy.

~In the pink: in good health; This phrase hasn't always had this meaning. The phrase came out of the English fox hunting tradition where a rider was not granted the right to don the scarlet colored jackets called pinks until he demonstrated superior horsemanship and service to the hunt. Being “in the pink” meant the rider had reached the pinnacle of achievement or status in the hunt. The use of the phrase “in the pink” evolved to be used more broadly to mean ‘the very pinnacle of’ something but not necessarily the hunt during the 18th century.

~Pinking shears: scissors with serrated blades.

~A pink elephant: term to describe hallucinations during intoxication.

~Pinkie finger: the smallest finger on the human hand.

~In 1947, fashion designer Elsa Schiaparelli introduced the color hot pink into western fashion. She dubbed the shade "Shocking Pink", though today the color is more associated as "magenta".

~Since the color pink is said to have a tranquilizing effect, sport's teams sometime paint the locker room, to be used by their opposing teams, pink. Also beginning to be used in jails and prisons.

~Some studies of the color pink suggest that male weightlifters seem to lose strength in pink rooms, while women weightlifters tend to become stronger around the color.

~Pastries taste better when they come out of pink boxes or served on pink plates (it only works with sweets).

~In Japan, the color pink has a masculine association. The annual blooming of the cherry trees, with it's pink blossoms, each spring ( the Sakura ) is said to represent the young Japanese warriors who fell in battle in the prime of life ( the Samurai).

~Pink makes us crave sugar.

~"I fell off my pink cloud with a thud." -- Elizabeth Taylor

~"Wish on everything. Pink cars are good, especially old ones. And stars of course, first stars and shooting stars. Planes will do if they are the first light in the sky and look like stars. Wish in tunnels, holding your breath and lifting your feet off the ground. Birthday candles. Baby teeth.” -- Francesca Lia Block

~“My favorite jellybean is the pink one with the flavor inside.” -- Chester Bennington
